Don't have the box score but Vandevelde scored at least one goal in tonight's win over St Cloud Apollo. Cory Loos had another hat trick! It wasn't very much of a contest, Moorhead won 13-0. I'd like to see Cory in Junior A and see how he does. He could be a pretty good pickup. jloos, get on it!

Yeah! So when Smaby and Greene are gone we have a defenseman to b!tch about!

With the amount of flaming going towards the Sioux players and staff on this thread, there are a bunch of posters here whom you could ask the same question: Skippy fan or Sioux fan? I'm not Kevin Bacon saying "everything is alright" folks. I'm saying that the season isn't over. It is still possible to do well. I wonder where Denver was last year? How did they do against UND? UM? UW? How well did they do in the Final Five? I THINK they did ok in the NCAA Tourney... though I'm not sure. PCM, could you tell me what happened to that mediocre team known as the Pioneers last season? Seriously, folks. Contracts are made and dissolved not by midseason reports, but by reports culminating based upon a full season's performance. Darn, you guys, the rumor mill is churning because lately I've been hearing reports that the Notre Dame booster organization is willing to help you organize UND hockey boosters into a comparable organization. That way, you won't have to deal with any coaches who cannot deliver a national title within a half a season!

It worked for the Tigers, didn't it? If it isn't broken, why fix it? And besides, with frustration from last week and the tempers of some of our defensemen, it would be a possible avenue to travel to acheive a powerplay. Especially if the ref happens to be Todd Anderson or Don Adam. I would include Derek Sheperd but what happened last time he reffed a Sioux game (called almost nothing) made me take a step back to wonder what exactly is his style.

Oh good. Now we can place a poll to this. For BDB and gang you should have made F into "Fire his butt now!" Grade: B (Seriously)

doggy dog, thank you for putting it in a manner better than I (not that that is particularly difficult). I think it is a great catch in Toews and will be a wonderful addition to the Sioux... but I still won't believe it is over and done with until a National LOI is signed. And my projected Woog pronounciation: Toewes TOH WEhZ

You can find sources all over the place! Right now, Kessel, according to USCHO, has narrowed his list down to Wisco and Minny. However, I've seen references to him going to Michigan, BU, and UND. If Kessel does commit to the Gophers, that single year when he suits up for them is going to be one hell of a year for them.

If what Gino told Chris was true, do you blame him? I'm not sure anyone likes being powerplayed like that.

Thanks PCM for another good recap. Hopefully that wasn't the same caller who asked both the Toews question and the Kessel question.... I agree with DH's assessment of Kyle. He's not there yet, but he's coming. THat's a good sign. We need someone to call in each Wednesday asking why aren't we crashing the nets. Perhaps Coach has a reason for not coaching this strategy.

OH goody! If I remember correctly, the last time Sweeney did a broadcast out in Colorado Springs they spent half the time talking about the Olympic Ice, a quarter of the time talking about technical difficulties, and the rest talking about what was happening on the ice. But at least it's going to be on.

JAN 10TH. USCHO, USA TODAY POLL and INCH RANKINGS

Unrelated to men's hockey, but on the girl's hockey jr prep (?) the Lammareaux (sp?) sisters are tearing it up. There's also a defense(wo)man (Collins?) who is turning heads too. It might be nice to make it a family affair at UND.

START RANT Wow. Life must have SUCKED when Blais took over. I mean, with a team like Blais and fans like those on this board, how did he survive? I mean... if Hakstol is only good enough to keep a team that is struggling a little bit only at #10 or #11 overall in the nation, I think to myself, EVEN DAHL could do better! What if Toews comes to UND and doesn't score in his first 10 games? I bet first you will think he sucks, then will blame Hakstol for recruiting a loser like Toews. Well, I'm behind Hakstol 100 percent regardless of record because HE COULD BE WORSE THAN THIS. For shame on all of you who cannot even wait until one season goes by to start calling for heads to roll. You do this with Hakstol, Radke, hell, I dont think anyone could have come in and handled it to your satisfaction! Yeah, bring Dean back. Whatever. I'll let you all in on a little news flash: HE'S FREAKING GONE AND HE'S NOT COMING BACK!!!! I hope that clued you all in. Root for the Sioux, root against the Sioux, but what we've got is what we've got and damned if I will sit back and throw stones at people who haven't gotten their fair chance. END RANT

JAN 10TH. USCHO, USA TODAY POLL and INCH RANKINGS

Finally a rational comment..

Yeah, I see CC as being just as dominant as we were last year. This means one of two things: A burnout and early departure for CC in the NCAAs (like us), or an NC title. I really don't see anyone out east as dominant as CC. Boston College can get close.

JAN 10TH. USCHO, USA TODAY POLL and INCH RANKINGS

Yeah, I would have put the Goofs at #3 and Michigan at #4. Next week we'll drop out of the top 10. I just hope we can stay in the top 16 PWR wise. -
Actually, I think they will be ready. I just wish Jones would be around to help. Smaby seems to start out slow but gets better as the season progresses. This time last year, Smaby started to take off so to speak. He may have lost some of that drive over the summer, hence the slow start again, but I think he'll improve. Bina started out the year as, by far, our best defenseman. Lately, starting with the UMD series, he's shown that he's not unbeatable. Radke was probably overwhelmed with how fast things develop and how even faster things can fall apart in DI hockey. I'm thinking that jumping from juniors to DI is a lot like jumping from high school's honor society to Harvard. When you were in high school getting great grades and achieving all those honors, you thought you were the smart one on campus. When you get to Harvard, you realize that everyone here is just as smart as you are and perhaps some are even more smart. I think Radke will come around. He is ranked #2, but we may not see why this season. He was ranked #2 coming into a defensive corp that was already deep. As for expectations: I think Phil takes the cake on this one. I didn't expect him to see much action at all his freshman year because of Brandt's last season performance. I had heard he was good, but not THIS good THIS soon. BTW- Has anyone noticed, even before JPar's rough games, that there was more energy among the crowd when Phil was starting? Yes, he's the home grown goaltender, but don't you think that could affect a team's mindset? Overall, I really think our freshman class is VERY VERY good, however, they are being forced to play like upperclassmen before they even finish their first semester of coursework. It's a lot.

Yup. I'm just glad that the SIoux have a player like Matt Smaby. If it weren't for him, we might have to blame our defense for our winning woes. Matt makes mistakes. So does Greene, Jones, Bina, Radke, and all. Hey, you know what? I do believe even Zach Parise (perish the thought) made a few mistakes in his time as a Sioux! Of course, the only difference between Jones, Bina, ZPar, and Smaby is that if Bina, Jones, and Zach make mistakes nobody wants to kick them off the team or bench them for the rest of the season. Nobody labels them a big disappointment or wishes they'd get splinters up their asses. Funny that, no? Sic is right, he does need to move his feet a little more, but that's something that can come with practice. It isn't a fatal flaw and it isn't something that is worth flaming him over. Offense is what wins games. If you don't shoot the puck, the puck won't go into the net. We need offense. Our defense struggles at times but it is NOT NOT NOT our problem. EDIT: Oh, and one more thing. Funny about Radke. Already a disappointment and he's only a freshman. Smaby's at least a Sophmore. Before you slam him for bing worthless perhaps let him age a year?

Wow. All I can say is wow to this. That's ok. You're entitled to your opinion. It's wrong, but you're entitled to it.
