You want a doomsday prediction? 5 years. The NHL as it is will only last for 5 more years. After that, citing no TV markets and almost minimal ticket sales, teams will start folding one by one. Probably start in Pittsburgh, then Carolina, Florida, Phoenix, Atlanta, Nashville, and so on until the first of the big teams fold: NY Islanders. From then, it will whittle away until only the original six remain. From then, the start up league WHA will be in full swing and, though it won't be nearly as popular, it will be running, the original six could merge with the WHA to reform the NHL. How's that for stretching it?

Well thank Zach he didn't pull a Brad Winchester

Nope. You just can't make these things up.

A couple years ago, we played Ferris State and Michigan. I heard a rumor that Michigan won't travel to Grand Forks to play us because of some sort of protest over our nickname. Is this true?

Respectfully speaking, I have no qualms about getting quality ND recruits. Andy Schneider, Phil L, Nick Fuher, James Massen, QUinn Fylling, Peter Armbrust, the Panzers, and the list go on. We do recruit a sizeable number of ND recruits, but we also want the best recruits out there. We aren't the Woogian Minnesota teams in tht we have to have only ND natives on our team. They may be hell holes as you call them, but they have quality programs that temper the youth at that age level. The GF Blues and such teams, to my knowledge, have a younger set of kids, don't they? As for the F-M Jets, they are NAHL and generally it's not too often we recruit in that league anyways. As for starting up High School and youth hockey threads, I respectfully ask you to take that to the UND Community portion of this message board. This part, the one labelled hockey is related to the University of North Dakota's hockey team and future recruits. There are high school related threads here, but they are just logging the progress of UND recruits already signed. And as for Minnesota, I find nothing wrong with recruiting there as long as we do give the ND players their fair look.

At least people are starting to realize that whatever it is that falls out of that guy's arse isn't worth listening to or reading.

I don't know about that, but it will bring a lot of interesting comments from Sioux flamers both here, POI, and on USCHO.
-
Not sure why we don't, but I've seen pictures of your house. It is very nice. In any case, the more knowledgeable hockey gurus here may be able to answer your question.

I thought we were so far back from 3rd place that a lot would have to happen to get there. So my question is, what would have to happen besides us winning out to get us to 3rd place?

I think he's wondering why no one is talking about Roger leaving like we talked about Blais (notice how there isn't an e at the end?) when he left. The answer is simple: Blais was the most popular coach on campus on a team that has brought us more prominance than Roger's team ever did, despite their success. As for the three mentioned in the Herald, I think the students, especially hockey fans, should get organized and meet each candidate and grill him on what is important to us. However, remember, he is just a candidate for the job. It's like running for political office. I'd expect him to say exactly what you want him to say. Once he gets into the office, things will possibly change.

Zelkin seems to be alright. Something happened between the leg injury and now to Jon Campion because he used to be alright. Anderson used to hold second or third worst ref in the WCHA. Either he's gotten worse or... Derek Sheperd has gotten better because Todd now holds the worst ref in the WCHA. Fire Greg Sheperd!

This weekend I saw 4 of the most unbelievable things: 1. MTU sweeps UMN on the road. 2. Michigan loses to tOSU 3. John Scott scores a goal which would be the play of the game if it were the Sioux. Not Scott's goal, mind you, but the pass that set it up. UNBELIEVABLE! WOW! Ok, the fact that Scott scored is pretty incredible too. 4. UMD takes 3 of 4 from CC.

Count out SCSU. I could score on them right now.

With Hindsight in mind, let's return to the title of this thread: Why should we watch UMN lose to the Bulldogs when watching them lose to MTU is far more entertaining?

Did it occur to you that telling jokes while being the head official DURING a game is not exactly what you would call professional? Did it occur to you that this kind of statement made during a game could call into question exactly what he is trying to do? People get fired for saying stuff like that. It's really too bad that it is Adam saying it and not Anderson. Adam is a bad ref, but Anderson is far worse. Although I have to say that Anderson did ref a good game tonight.

The unbelievable has happened: MTU sweeps UMN with a 3-1 victory! On the weekend: MTU 9 UMN 4 Wow. I doubt USCHO will see Happy for a week.

I'm sure Blake is a late bloomer. He certainly isn't lighting it up like Vanek did. The way things have progressed for Blake, I'm wondering if this will be the first #5 pick overall to stay beyond 2 years in college.

Harrington laid out Lars Helminen. And it was the Hit of the game. That little cross check he gave him afterwards drew a penalty?? My god, I've seen that happen numerous times for and against the Sioux without a call.
-
I'm not doubting your report, but I've honestly never heard of a player who scores 2 goals being called "OK." I admit that Chris isn't worth jumping up and down for, but I feel he looks better than "OK."

I like Drew Stafford. I'm not going to hold it against him that he's the youngest player on the team. Nor am I going to hold it against him that he is foolish enough to rely on the upper classmen to maintain leadership roles. I'm not going to hold Drew accountable because he realizes that he is not Zach Parise or Jeff Panzer or Jason Blake or whomever you want to compare him to. I want to see him play his best for the Sioux. I want to see him play with grit, desire, and determination. If leadership comes about because of that great! If not, that's ok too. You see, I'm very naive. I think there are more players on the ice than just Drew Stafford. Gosh, how naive of me! It may not be rational to say that we should depend on the juniors and seniors for leadership, but I guess I'm too old school and traditional to change that opinion. I just want to win. That's all. I'm just not going to put the whole team on one players' shoulders. I'm not like that. Go Drew. Go Sioux

It's more than that. This is a lockout based on two evil factions wishing to control the other. The players look at the baseball union and say "Man! Look at them! They have the owners and front office around their fingers so much that they can dictate whatever they want, including steroids! I want that!" And the owners look at "Yeah, we're losing money hand over fist, which is why we aren't marketing our product and hurting ourselves even more! Plus, this lockout isn't costing us that much more money to do as opposed to doing something sensible, such as it would have been if we would have sat down and hammered this thing out before the CBA expired." But don't worry, folks, they have met and agreed on two things: 1. SCREW the arena staff. We can always go to a temp agency to hire new ones or just hire anyone off the street when we finally decide to play again. 2. SCREW the fans. We don't need them. All we need is money. (They haven't figured out exactly what this lock out is going to do to the monetary income yet. But when they do. WOOOOOO. Hindsight is 20/20)

There is more to a man than what falls out of his mouth. These articles tell me only one thing, really: Don't EVER EVER EVER put Don in front of a microphone or a group of people who aren't recruits when tact or intellectual discourse is set to occur. What he tells the media and what he produces on the ice are not related .
