  1. Before everyone jumps on me, a bit of clarification: In my last post I refer to the hit on Bina. I am making this a seperate post for the sole reason to explain that the hit on Bina was not a good thing. However, from some bad things come good things. Bina's down, but the Sioux rallied around him. And for that, I used that angle when I made my post. I just wanted to be sure that nobody thought that I believed the injury to Bina was ever something I was thankful for.
  2. No, on that topic. So keep dreaming. As for the avatar: I think of you as away (far away). While I'm at home chillin'
  3. I understand what you are saying, PCM, but I generally look at the definitions of a game and a sport by the definitions given to me in Frank White's Sociology of Sport course. Hockey is a sport. NASCAR is considered, true, to be a sport by sports sociologists, but it is rather close to a gray area as it really is the car doing the majority of the work. The same can be argued about jockeys of horse racing really. Those two sports require very little athleticism. Chess, poker, blackjack, and bridge are all games, not sports. Gray area sports/games include all racing that isn't done on foot or foot-pedal powered vehicles (such as bikes and ice skates), darts, billiards, etc. Why get this detailed? Because without this deliniation, then poker should have no problem being included in the olympic games and, for that matter, blackjack and pinnocle as well. But, that being said, even if you all think I'm wrong, I agree with PCM and that this isn't appropriate for this part of the board. So this will be my last post.
  4. I agree. Of all the Gopher players, including Hirsch, Harrington is by far the biggest loser wearing Maroon and Gold. He's cost the Gophers games according to the Gopher posters I care to trust (Greyeagle, sagard, and when he's on his meds, WPoS ). HOWEVER: I think his teammates probably SHOULD tell Harrington to shut up. Paukovich hit Bina and, arguably since that point, they've only given up 6 goals and scored 14. Do you want to restart the fires of your opponent?
  5. Day Early, it doesn't matter. I agree with PCM. With the way the year started and has proceeded thus far, I think the Sioux have done better than just "ok." They've done outstanding. Win or lose tommorrow, I'll still be proud of the Sioux. Every time I think of the games played against Minnesota in the Final 5 and both games at Worchester, I get a warm glow about me. I think that's pride in the Sioux. At times, I wish I could be a member of the team, just so that I can be a part of it all. (I then wake up to realize that I'd suck worse than anything. I think my GAA as a broomball goaltender is somewhere around the century mark ) In any case, even if the worst thing imaginable happens, I still thing we've set a standard for heart and character in the second half of our season. I'm proud to be a fan of the Sioux. No one can take that away from me, even if we don't win #8.
  6. That's precisely what I was thinking. (the depth part, not the egging). WHY would they post their addresses? Can't they get sued for doing that?
  7. Nope. I think the only thing athletic about NASCAR is endurance that's needed to maintain pressure on the gas pedal for 2 hours plus. It takes concentration, sure, but so does chess, and that's not a sport. NASCAR is a game. Hell, I'll tell you this much: If NASCAR outlawed alcohol, the ratings would then be worse than hockey's is right now. A NASCAR race, in order to be remotely interesting, should be maybe 20 laps total. No pit stops (although the pit crews are truly the only athletes at the track), no cautions unless the driver of the crash car (cars) are in danger if the race keeps going as it is, no penalties. Sure, the race would only take maybe 30 minutes but it wouldn't be boring. Even then, though, it wouldn't be a sport. Bowling and cheerleading are sports due to the athletic nature of the games.
  8. I almost cried when I read this post.... then I realized that I was stabbing myself in the leg with a pencil.
  9. It was quoted on USCHO that Bourque may have been having issues in the classroom. So maybe the problem and hence cause of Bourque is that he's just a typical stupid guy who knows how to play hockey well?
  10. Hmmmm.... I thought that's what he said about you?
  11. Perhaps, but I've got an in. I'm friends with their coach EDIT: Besides, what's worse? Hockey nerds or band geeks?
  12. I would normally agree. However, there is a standard and a sense of accountability that needs to be adhered to at this level and higher levels of play. The WCHA has none of that, or if they do (they claim they do), it doesn't work. The problem is, with the exception of Adam and Anderson (maybe D Shepherd), the officials in the WCHA have the ability to officiate with the potential to really do a good job, but when the official is consistent in being poor in judgement and lopsided (You can only call it both ways if there is a means to offset the penalty) action needs to be taken. Greg Shepherd is incapable of taking such an action. He is VERY much into the status quo. That isn't bad in itself, unless you experience staff (in this case officials) who aren't doing their job the way they should. Then you can run into what Greg is doing: He wants the status quo so bad, that he regularly overlooks consistent errors and dangerous calls/noncalls that go on and label them (at worst) as learning experiences. It was only after long thought and high pressure, IMO, that Adam was given a reprimand. Greg doesn't push the officials to do better and he stresses parity to the extreme so that it jades the calls in a game. I must note that I am as much in favor of parity as most people, but I think it should be parity through strategy and recruiting, not parity through league intervention or worse, assistance. siouxnami and a few of us Sioux posters may have an extreme opinion on Don Adam, but let's face it: It's easy to call for the head of an official, especially when the situation that got him there happens regularly when he officiates and the fans all know that nothing will happen to him regardless of official's performance. Too much buddy buddy and not enough management. The answer must come from up top. Fire Greg Shepherd and Bruce McLeod. Hire people to replace them and then go from there. Yes, all, with the replacement of the top officials, Adam (under my idealistic view) would still be a ref in the WCHA. However the leash would be very short.
  13. UND owns a mite more than just a 15 person van. They do own at least 2 full size coaches. Assuming all of UND's sports teams are at home, the hockey team is flying, and a driver is available, that would increase the potential riders to around 49 or so per bus. Student fees wouldn't be able to cover this entirely, so the students would be responsible for whatever remains after the initial sum. However, the other "wrench" in the works involves the driver. Though students wouldn't be responsible to chip in for fuel (same as the van), they would be responsible to pay the driver. This can included even meals and lodging for the entire trip. I admit that I only looked into the UND coach in an estimate capacity, not as seriously as it could have helped. The nice thing about 15 person vans is that your friendly student senator can drive the vehicle, which saves a ton of money.
  14. Which further points back at that extra suspension. Was it really honest in its administration or was it just a convenient excuse for giving Geoff some extra time to recover from the incident? Maybe it's both. I don't know.
  15. The Watkins movie must have been taped before he committed to UND.
  16. I agree. Definitely turn of the century, not 1700s

    Hobey 3

Yeah? Anyways, Duey, what question? I didn't ask anything
  18. From the pool of existing NCAA Regional officials, I'm sure.
  19. I agree, but the leash needs to be tightened. But yeah, this was a decent start to this poster's SS.com life.
  20. I just love how you think you are complimenting the Sioux, but in fact you are really doing nothing but stating things that could be considered a black compliment. Need an example? Like my best friend was called after his piano recital: "I'm amazed at how great you are at piano coming from a family like yours." Calling "UND is good, but UMN is better." Isn't complimenting UND at all. It's not a compliment at all. Saying UND deserves to be where they are, but UMN is going to win it all for the next 3 years! And you call US Homers. I'm not about to make fun of your name, but I will not respect you at all. You don't deserve it. And your complaints are retarded. If you take that to mean that you are retarded, that's your beef, not mine. I'll say it one last time: RESPECT: Use it or get lost.
  21. :sigh: I hate because I love.
