As much as his history seems to be sordid, I think Piotrowski would be a great omen to the Sioux. He really let us play on Thursday.

The classy generally stay classy and the classless stay classless really. Of those Gopher posters that have come here and talked since postgame Thursday, none of them that I can remember posted anything that could be construed as flames pregame. And for those Gopher fans who say "Wait until next year," I don't find that as classless really. It's what every prideful fan says when their season ends without a championship. The Gophers have a lot to be prideful about regarding their incoming class of freshmen, so let them be prideful. This is our year. Who knows what next year will be like.

Every goaltender has his weakness. I just hope they do what Clement and Thorne keep praising us for: Keeping it simple and just shooting the puck. Truthfully, if the info was out there on Mannino's weaknesses and how they could be exploited, I'm sure Hakstol would be very keen on seeing it. I noticed that one of CC's goals against Mannino came through a redirection from a screen (off Carle's skate and in). If that's the only way to beat him (which I know it isn't but still), then this game is going to be very tough. I also doubt DU defenders won't make the same stupid mistakes that UMN defenders made.

I've been thinking. Paukovich is good for a few penalties, for sure. What if we scored the GWG while Pauko was in the box? I think that would be the sweetest revenge of all. Unless Spirko can burn him 1x1 for the GWG

That certainly wouldnt hurt the ignorant vote, but once they figure out that we're still in "flyover land " we still won't get it.

As someone who has advocated for him time and time again since he first laced up his skates for UND, I can say with whole hearted certainty that Matt Smaby brings a LOT to the Sioux. He's big, true. Physical, true. But with the way he's progressing, he could even, yes, I dare say it, be better than Matt Greene. He has natural talent that's abounding in every play he makes. His nerves around the puck (when he's handling it) seem to be disappearing now, and that was primarily his biggest issue these past two years. If we lose Matt Greene, which I think we very well might, Matt Smaby's role on the Sioux defense becomes exceptionally huge. He IS going to be filling Greene's skates if Greene signs. I can say right now that I'm not worried if Greene does, but if the Lightening win out, we could be in big trouble.

The next step will be the open letter, a big pledge and lots of hot air, followed by the usual "Eh, I'm tired of enforcing it. Let's let it ride." Just like interference. Or maybe the WCHA will just ignore it.

I agree with bertibm regartding GPL. I don't read the site very often and I'm not even registered, but I expect that it is the Gopher board that see things decidedly from that angle. Yes, some of them are dumb homers and not very good fans, but it's just how it goes with message boards. I'm sure ss.com has a few of those posters or has gone through times like that in its past. If things go down the wrong way on Saturday, I just hope we all look back on this season with pride and admiration for how well UND has done with the adversity it has faced. Let GPL lie. All the decent Gopher posters (and unfortunately some of the poorer ones) post here anyways.

According to ESPN, Doug Woog should be ticked! They've surpassed Woog in butchering Sioux players' names! Now, Travis Zajac is pronounced: "Zayzish"

It's really too bad that this is the first and last running of the horsemen. Two of three will have their last game as a Sioux on Saturday win or lose.

You are in the minority. However, if you want the skippy alert sign, I think if you asked nicely someone might give you an honorific posting

I agree with mikejm. Today they were talking about Gopher hockey and it really wasn't all that homerish. In fact, they sounded skeptical. And even so, it's nice that there is SOMEWHERE we can go to listen to college hockey coverage even if it is Gopher junk.

Good for him! I'm happy that he's successing away from the hellhole known as the Minnesota Wild farm system.

Despite the imbalance in penalty calls, I think I'd rather have this crew Saturday. Look at the CC/DU matchup. A TON of penalties. Piotrowski (sp?) let a few things slide.
-
I totally agree.
-
How could you miss it? The only difference this time is that Hirsch did it while Parise was in the net.
-
I agree. I'd love to see Paukovich get a few extra bruises and scrapes, but I don't think we can afford the distraction. Unlike the Gophers, DU is actually Championship Calibre.
-
Ok, I now widen my list to 4.5 decent gopher posters.

PTI cohost Michael Wilbon has UND beating UMN. There are far too many media types picking UND for my taste.

Zach was out? I thought David was out?

Thank you sagard for a reasonable outlook from outside the green and white dome. To answer the question, yes, yes I am nervous. Though sagard is right, that neither team will be a stranger to the frozen four for the near future, I can't help but be nervous. The gophers have a tendency to play well against the Sioux and vice versa. The 6-0 loss was the first Sioux-Gopher game I've ever witnessed in which only one team was playing well of the two. And no, I'm not saying that a Sioux win is the only time the Sioux are playing well.

Can we combine this sign with the lights? Best of both worlds scenario?
