I agree. I don't know him too well, but I talked to him briefly in 2000 at Applebees on Columbia. I complimented him on a fantastic game (it was a Friday night) and told him that tommorrow he needs to go out, score a goal, and knock a guy into the bench area. I remember he scored a goal that night from the blue line in a similar fashion to what happened to Kevin Spiewak against Maine. No one was between Commie and the goaltender (I wish I could remember which team it was) and the puck just hopped over his stick and into the net. I told him he'd probably last a half season in the AHL before being called up to the NHL and I was right! A REALLY nice guy.

Guilty as charged (though I've never turned to anyone near me and said that). I always cheer when someone yells "HEY REF, Get off yer knees yer blowin' the game!"
  4. I'm with Sioux-cia on this. Here's what the compromise is from the NCAA standard: "Ok, we love UND and what they do for DI hockey and we're excited to see UND step up into division one in other sports as well. Let's put these unpleasantries behind us. You can remain as you are with your school colors and the UND logo. We just wish you drop the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and the Indian logo. In return for your cooperation we are prepared to feature UND in a favorable media promotion and remove them from the hostile and abusive list." Now, take that paragraph and twist it using legalese and clever media pandering and you have it. There is no such compromise. This goes to court.
  5. Yeah, Brown the player.
  6. Off to a system that will hopefully showcase his offensive talents.

Doesn't matter to me. I wasn't in favor of Chorney's jersey popping either.
  8. First off, thanks Siouxmama for the recap. Lastly, why did Hak have to go to last year? They could go to this year! The Minnesota Wild are darn near unbeatable in the shootout and, up until recently, basically lived and died by it. Take away the shootout and the Wild are out of the playoffs at least up until recently. The way they are playing right now.... no way they'd miss the playoffs. #1 defense, great PK...
  9. Did you read my post? I said LAST name.
  10. Bah, if their last name is Lee, they automatically suck. Luckily for Marvin and Ness, neither have the last name of Lee.
  11. Yeah, I thought Aaron Marvin was a huge loss for the Sioux and now everyone's jumping off that bandwagon fast. What's up with that? I don't think he's that bad of a player.
  12. I agree. But it won't be Ehn that gets replaced. Every story needs a feel good factor. That's why Lessard was such a lock. good enough to deserve the award AND had a feel good story of overcoming adversity attached. Ehn has that element (from a nothing conference he does something remarkable). Brown will make it. Duncan is a sophomore and, though he deserves to be there, the committee will find any reason to replace Duncan and they have two: 1. Duncan is a sophomore. 2. Hensick is from a big school like Brown. If that's not enough then Duncan didn't break any records this year and the last conspiracy theory is that the committee would like to give it to a player in another conference because they don't want to be accused of favoring the WCHA too much. So, I predict Hensick not only to be in the 3 finalists, I expect him to win it.
  13. Maybe Lee has been reading the boards. I mean, when how would you feel if, despite numerous other reasons, you were always blamed for everything bad that happens to the team? I'd probably not want that kind of weight on my shoulders. "I love the Sioux except Brian Lee. I hope he leaves." WOW, what kind of Sioux fan is that? Please. Anyways, I hope he doesn't quit hockey. He's got such great potential and great skills. It's not easy playing for a fanbase like ours when you are a defenseman. And that draft position is killing his image because people can't see past it. Whether he quits or leaves early, it will be a shame. But I'll enjoy immensely the posters that come on and say "Boy, we miss Brian Lee on the point during the Power Play" or Lee's penchant of being one of the better passers on the team gone. Anyways, Diggler is right. Toews is gone. Oshie is 75/25 gone. Finley and Lee will be back. Chorney is 60/40 gone. It was nice having them.

pstar, SLap Shot, Gopher crowd: I'd like you to tell me what would you do as a goaltender if: You make the save and get barraged by slashes, stick checks, etc. after you have made the save from when you make the save to shortly after the whistle sounds? Obviously, this should be an original answer. Raising your glove to say you have the puck in it would obviously be showboating. So what would you do? Don't tell me the officials will take care of it. You have to pull a Bruess for them to do anything major. Don't say your D or your players should rush in to protect the goaltender. They'd head to the box for roughing or some other crap. So what would you do?
  15. Gosh that's too bad. Isn't it. Don't care much what you think. We could use Lee. He's going to be huge next year especially if Chorney bolts. And yeah, I think he's a good defenseman who plays an awful lot for the Sioux. Go LEE go!
  16. Well, the last time I said this, I got owned, but I think the Gophers shouldn't have a problem with Air Force. Sure, they have Minnesota talent on the team, but that talent isn't very deep. I don't think Air Force could beat UAA even. Ehns is a good player, but I just don't see them having enough to get by Minnesota. UAH vs. Notre Dame is indeed the best bet this season for a lesser conference team to upset a bigger conference team. That being said, I expect the AHA and CHA to once again go home early.
  17. I'd love a UND-SCSU NC game. Then the NCAA will have to scramble to set up brackets in which only one WCHA team can make it to the Frozen Four.
  18. I disagree with #8. The NCAA is overjoyed at this setup because it puts rivalries together potentially. The only thing that could be better is DU and CC in the West Regional.
  19. I was being sarcastic. And no, Lee is not a defensive defenseman so he's not going to be like those three. He's a Travis Roche type player. He IS on the level of those three because Lee is constantly being blamed for stuff like those three were their first two seasons (and with Smaby and Greene that continues into their junior years as well). I just like how everyone hated Smaby his freshman year and his game changed a little but not much his sophomore year and that caused people to pray he stayed for his junior year and now we miss him. Well, when Lee leaves, I'll guarantee you there will be positive aspects to the Sioux game now that will be missing when he leaves. But the haters won't realize it because they'll be too busy celebrating Lee's departure and posting meaningless platitudes like "Good luck in the pros" or "I hope you find your game at the next level" while really meaning "Good riddance" and "I could care less about him now except for that he's not our problem anymore." I STILL (and forever will) think Lee will be JUST FINE. He's not a bruiser and that's driving some of you crazy. His draft position is driving some of you crazy, which means a lot seeing how this is the NHL...oh wait. I think we can like our entire team and support our entire team through thick and thin. Not just certain players you've decided to like. And "you" is more like "you all" which basically is "in general" not calling any particular poster out.
  20. In truth, there are far fewer trolls here than I expected. I thought they'd be all over the place with Dubay, Woog, and all predicting UND to win and even Lucia sandbagging it. Only one gloater (who tried to pass off his/her poor behavior as "just sh$t talk") and one or two other benign articles of distaste. Count me impressed. As for Lee... everything is his fault.
  21. THere's a rumor floating around that the reason why we lost was two things: 1. The officiating benefitted Team POI 2. Lee caused it. Any truth?
  22. Doesn't ESPN (ESPN2, ESPNU, or whatever) carry the regionals or is that ONLY the Frozen Four?
  23. His lack of physical play has improved as the season wore on. I just don't know how Lee could have been more physical on Wheeler without giving Shepherd the right to call for a penalty shot. As for the soft goal, most of the soft goals I've seen on Lammy have been either odd bounces or 5 hole. I don't know exactly why Lammy is beatable five hole but it drives me crazy. I wish I could see replays of those goals as to where the puck is in relation to Lammy's stick blade at the time the puck enters the 5 hole area. I THOUGHT you should be able to use your stick to block the five hole long enough for those few seconds to close your legs. I am apparently wrong. But we've given up at least one soft goal a game for quite some time. And Johnson's goal isn't why we lost. Chorney's goal was Chorney ripping the puck on net. We need to rip the puck on net and then crash the net like what happened vs. SCSU. I'd rather be wasteful in shots, shooting 100 SOG and scoring only 4 goals than shoot 25 times and only score 2 goals. And for the sake of me, ESPN doesn't care so why do you try for the highlight reel goals? Vandevelde's goals this weekend were garbage goals. Utter junk goals off of huge rebounds. NOTHING pretty about them. BUT THEY WENT IN. That's the kind of stuff we need. The initial shot and score is great, but the initial shot and bang in the rebound counts just as much as if it goes in the first time.
  24. Yes. However, I think they have more upperclassmen than we do, but I could be wrong.
  25. So THAT is why Wheeler was able to just skate in and score! I must have watched the wrong replay. Which was the one where Wheeler shot the puck in the only spot the puck could have gone in the net (the rest was covered by Lammy) while basically flying through the air? Was it the first goal? If Lee got beat, then I HIGHLY doubt Wheeler would have had to whack it at the net. He would have simply skated in and did some nifty move and beaten Lammy. Wheeler takes that shot 10 times from that angle with those circumstances and he misses them 9 times. He got lucky. And Lee wasn't a part of it. But it is a good example of forgetting how Lee got into that position. But then again, criticizing Chorney for an ill timed drop pass is hardly worthwhile because he's the golden child while Lee is the whipping boy. Please. Rewatch the WHOLE play. Chorney is just as culpable as Lee is but I only see ONE poster commenting on that. It's a fluke goal even Wheeler aparently thought of as a fluke. But blame Lee if it makes you feel better. You're wrong, but sometimes, I guess, being wrong makes you feel better.
