Paddy O'Reilly's to Host Pre-Game Event for UMaine Hockey Fans
redwing77 replied to Wookie#12's topic in Men's Hockey
Judging by USCHO, I wouldn't be surprised if several HE fanbases rooted for us. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if Maine and BU's fanbases rooted for the Sioux against BC. -
Watched part of this game. NJ, at times, was absolutely flying all over the ice. Too bad Dunham was having a great game or it would have been like...4-1 after 2.

And I'm sure there still will be some that are greatly disappointed. They'll cache away the beginning of this past season and if we should lose any further games this season (whichever one) and use it to "justify" their position next year. I'm sure that crowd would crow at the thought that Hak has gone to the FF 3 times and won none of them. Personally, I'm just happy we're going. It's going to take a solid effort by BC or Maine/MSU to knock us off.

Neither would I. However, the player I'd expect to go would be Goligoski as far as non-graduating defensemen. He had a stellar year this year and, though I'm not sure his defensive game is ready for the NHL level, he's still capable of performing offensively like Matt Carle is currently in the NHL. I also think Wheeler will turn pro too. Some rumors about Okposo and even Frazee but I don't see them going anywhere.

SIOUX - EAGLES - BLACKBEARS - SPARTANS, Frozen 4 thoughts, prediction

I don't know. Boyle scares me. He's doing amazing things. He alternates between the point and a forward on special teams. He's got size too. Not mention Gerbe has some wheels as well. -
True, but the fact that 5'8" Robbie Bina knocking 6'4 (or is it 6'5) EJ around does have a certain.... amusement factor to it. BleedGrn- Even so, you hit one of my biggest pet peeves about penalties. Call a diving penalty, call a different penalty, but don't call both. If you are tripped, you fall. No diving involved.

THis is a total buzzkill to my conspiracy theory! Thanks, jerk!

Have you ever tried wearing a skate on the wrong foot? Painful. Anyways, yeah, I agree. We had one backhanded compliment but other than that I was impressed by the GOpher fans that came here and commented. As for sagard, it's only goes without saying. He's always (as far as I can remember) said classy things about the Sioux on this site (and elsewhere). Kinda why I usually ask him questions regarding all things Gopher and look to his posts for a non-Sioux perspective. If only we could get Puck Swami to post here more.... then we'd have two non-UND posters of that ilk.

It doesn't matter if he did embelish or not. It was the right call. And sorry, NO ONE is better at milking a call than Robbie Earl. I was at the Ralph his last year as a Badger and watched him writhe enough to get the trainer to come out. He laid for a while, got up quickly, and skated to the bench looking towards the ref. He didn't miss a shift. He is the MASTER at diving. After all, he even has scouts and the media convinced that he's very poor on his skates! He might not be the best skater but he was better at it than Bochenski and he didn't fall down every time you exhaled in his general direciton. UW really missed him this year.

No, but Doyle might be. I hate to say it, but JPar might be. There's even a shot that CLemmenson might be. My argument is that, if Frazee had come into Minny like many of us predicted, there would be a chance that NJ might trade a goaltender to make room for Frazee (and especially the rookie contract). Seeing as though he's very inconsistent (when he's on his game, he's flat out amazing, but when he's not, he's terrible) and knowing that goaltenders typically take longer to develop than skaters, and also knowing that Lou is the best GM when it comes to scouting talent in every league, not just Europe and/or Major Juniors, I think Frazee will be back.

I'll restate (perhaps change) my picks: Top three: Ehn -- Feel good story. Good pub for "lesser conferences." Not necessarily a good Hobey Baker winner, but since when does the most deserving player get the award? (see Panzer). Since Air Force is now in AHA, they think that will garner the Eastern vote. Hensick -- Big school. Big numbers. Big publicity. NOT WCHA. Not the best attitude but his on ice performance isn't questionable at all. Curry -- Eastern School. Big School. NOT WCHA. Sleeper picks: Brown (ND), Duncan (UND) Duncan won't win because he's a sophomore from a school the NCAA doesn't like that hasn't broken any records who plays on a line that should produce numbers like that. If the NCAA and the folks on the committee were ever looking to take the Hobey away from the WCHA, this is the year they could do it with only the minimum of kvetching.

I'd be SHOCKED if Frazee wasn't in Minneapolis next year (unless he has courses on the St. Paul campus )
-
I agree. Even with the sordid past Hanson had (the official for the UND/Michigan game) he did rather well. I assume it was him again and I wouldn't mind seeing him again. If there was one CCHA ref, good or bad, I'd expect to see at the Frozen Four it would be Matt Shegos. He's been there before, even calling the NC game in 1997 between UND and BU. As for the waved off goal, I disagree with the Whistler. Looking at the goal real time, it did look like the puck went in before the net was off its moorings...barely. Shep made the best call he knew how and Daddy corrected him using technology. Shep and Anderson are indeed inconsistent, but they are more apt towards situational officiating (enforcing an on-ice parity based on subjective, on the fly, criteria no doubt) and make up calls. I'd predict (poorly more than likely) that this would be the official conference of the NC game based upon matchups: WCHA vs. HEA: CCHA official CCHA vs. HEA: WCHA official HEA vs. HEA: CCHA or WCHA official Not stepping out onto a limb here.

Let Paukovich go. To this day I don't like the hit, but I don't really hold any animosity towards him. I honestly think players that are gritty instigators are out there testing the officials to see how far they can go. That being said, I can honestly say that I hold all the animosity toward that bad hit on Don Adam. If he was in control of the game, things like that wouldn't have happened. Not to mention that, if it did, he'd've made the correct call and sent Paukovich packing for 2 games. To that end, I wish Pauk well at the next level. I don't know how good he is offensively based upon Gwoz' system. Dingle's signing will hurt offensively, but Geoff's signing won't hurt them that much.

SIOUX VS GOPHERS - LOSER GOES HOME, WINNER TO ST LOUIS
redwing77 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
VV isn't bad at all on the draw. And the progress Kaip has made in that department is good too. IIRC, he pretty much sucked at Center last year. -
I'm flatterred, but I'd have thought you'd have learned something from my brackets from last year.

I'm not going to predict a winner insomuch that I feel that whoever wins the BC/UND matchup will win it all. Maine and MSU have played really well and really poorly at times this year. Same with UND and BC. But UND and BC are coming into the NCAAs playing extremely well. Maine and MSU had rocky spots shortly before the playoffs began (especially Maine). I am willing to predict that MSU will be in the NC game. They are playing really well right now. BC/UND game will basically be the key to the championship. -
I think Lamoreaux acquitted himself well. But all this UMN goaltender sieving himself is just not true. Frazee didn't play poorly at all. And, yes, I thought it tremendously fitting that Frazee was in net instead of Briggs. Yeah, he's got all these records, but Siembida was like 12-4 his last year with the Sioux and 17-10 overall as a Sioux. If a goaltender that bad can put up that kind of win/loss record, then it doesn't surprise me that Briggs can get the record he got over the years. Especially since his freshman and sophomore years were faced with either playing Briggs or Justin "SIEVE" Johnson. Yeah, I don't like Briggs, but he's FAR better than JJ was. If JJ was a competant goaltender, I'm thinking he would have been just another goaltender for the Gophers. Oh, and if you want more goaltender competance, I'm 98% positive that if Briggs was in net, this game wouldn't have gone to overtime. And it wouldn't have been this close. Frazee was the reason why this game went to OT. He was solid. Next year he can look forward to much more playing time.

by the Pointer Sisters I'm sure! SS.com pointer sisters: Sioux-cia, Hockeymom, Siouxmama, and RWtD (because I don't want to be on her !@$! list). -
Pick me up on the way?

This game was over after BC scored its second goal. All you missed were 2 in the second and 2 in the third for BC.

Actually, in the other thread, there were quite a few of the usual "trolls" who actually were classy. They congratulated us and didn't call us names in the same post. This must be the only bitter fan so far.
