  1. First off, I agree with WPoS. Secondly, the Gophers did have a good season. They won the McNaughton and the Broadmoor. However, UND had a better shot at the National Championship. It didn't work out for the Sioux, but if it had, would you still consider the Gopher's season just as good as the Sioux? I'd rather the Sioux never win another McNaughton for as long as I live or even a Broadmoor on top of it if the team could consistently make the Frozen Four and win National Championships. Winning the WCHA is nice. Winning it all is better. This isn't to defend cheap shots at the Sioux. Rather it is another point in notifying non-Sioux fans that this is a Sioux message board and they should not expect Sioux fans to heap glowing praise upon their rivals unless it is due. An example in the BC/UND context is the Gopher fans that came on (ajoyce02, pstar, WPoS, and the like) that congratulated the Sioux on a fine season. What keeps the animosity up are posters like UMHockey and Hextall (GPL related or not). And, WPoS, I too like the fact that GPL closes registration. Sometimes I wish Jim would do the same.
  2. Guess I'm no fun.
  3. Parise I'll miss these guys. Porter: I can't remember a better player to wear the 'C' on his jersey in quite some time. Sure, Smaby and Greene had their good points. Same with Hale, Armbrust, and Schneider. However, I think Porter was the first player I can remember who lead the team VISIBLY on the ice. Mr. Clutch for sure. And, yeah, his penalties were stupid in the BC game, but he moved at one speed: 100% the entire game long, just like he has been his ENTIRE SIOUX CAREER. He'll be missed. A TON. Fabian: It would be easy to say he's going to be missed just based upon his performance against Minnesota alone. However, players like Fabian are what make teams work from first line to the fourth line. Lunchpail toting, blue collar working players like Fabian inspire to work hard every shift. He was tough. I'll miss his tenacity. Foyt: True team players are hard to find. UND has had their share of non-team players (though the most prominent one I'm thinking of isn't coming to me right now... the winger that transferred to UAA Fournier?) as have every team. But Foyt exemplifies a team player. Practice player, game time player, either way he works hard. He even found a way to contribute. Defense is what he came in as, forward is how he graduates. A guy like Foyt is someone we could use in the coming years. Best of luck to him.
  4. Thanks ajoyce02! fightingsioux4life- I think we'll be fine even if we do lose Chorney. Sure, his maturity makes him a shoe in for a letter next season, but we are getting LaPoint and Marto. If anything, we have a log jam at D even with Radke not playing D. I really wonder, assuming we lose no one on D, what is going to happen with 2 extra defensemen? Marto might be able to move to forward based upon what I saw while he was in high school...
  5. Does anyone else think it funny that UMHockey tries to do to us with BC's jersey as we did to them with Holy Cross? I mean, BC has like...what.. 4 or 5 (maybe 5 or 6 come tommorrow night) NCs and Holy Cross is 1-1 in the NCAAs in their lifespan? Thank you UMHockey for the laugh. Even though I did not participate in the Holy Cross jersey purchasing thing, you certainly came on and justified it. Thanks for the laugh.
  6. SOmetimes the best player doesn't win. I pick Ehn for Hobey based upon the fact that he holds the most conspiracy theories supporting his selection (). I would be surprised if Brown took it either. But as it was said on USCHO, that would really piss off the Elliott fans (and rightfully so).
  7. From the hole to the Frozen Four. What a trip! This team really showed maturity despite having only 3 seniors. I think only 4 seniors played in the game tonight between the two teams. I really think that this team was special. We're not losing much, if anything, on defense. I think we can make a run again next year! The biggest disappointment to me isn't so much losing tonight. It's the fact that Saturday marks the end of the college hockey season. Now it's still NBA (does that season ever end?) and the #5 most boring game to watch live on TV: baseball. Football and hockey, two sports that truly are great.
  8. Not a big fan of this either. I'd rather see suspensions than bloodshed.
  9. Dubay is as much anti-Sioux as many posters here are anti-Gopher. It's just that you'll find people here that will actually stand up for the WCHA even if it isn't UND being stood up for, where Dubay doesn't have the mental maturity to do the same.
  10. I think there's a reasonable chance that UND will only lose 2 this offseason in Oshie and Toews. I think Chorney may actually be back. The rest aren't going anywhere unless they are graduating. Vandevelde looks like he's coming around and Genoway was getting TONS of love from Melrose and Thorne. He played well too.
  11. Uh... I think either Phoenix or Chicago have that one down. I can look back a few years to when the Blues were good. I'd have to look back decades to know when Chicago was last decent and Phoenix......
  12. And another has the Blues.
  13. When you endure WCHA officiating, can you really get lower expectations than Greggie-poo's expectations on official quality and accountability? Face it, the WCHA is the best conference in the nation with the worst officiating crew. When (I believe) an AHA official can out ref "the big boys" in the WCHA, it's just plain sad.
  14. I'm not so sure it was a badly officiated game overall. Think if the ref for tonight's game was Shepherd. I don't think there would have been any penalties called after Finley's. I'm not sure BC's penalties would have been called, that's for sure. One thing I CAN say about tonight's officiating crew. In the time I watched, they actually called the NCAA crackdown on obstruction pretty well. Say what you will about the officials, anyways, but I think the officials did a TON better tonight than we would have gotten with a WCHA crew.
  15. I'm thinking (hoping) that this was tongue in cheek.
  16. Thanks pstar. At least you showed some class. Wish I could say the same thing for Hextall.
  17. I agree. I don't think ESPN's coverage has anything to do with how the game goes in either way. I just think that all four teams in the Frozen Four went through a LOT to get to where they are and, just because BC is from New England, it doesn't mean that they deserve more coverage than UND. I think every team in the Frozen Four deserves equal coverage and equal praise. If you are going to interview a BC player, great! But go out of your way to interview a UND player too. Same thing for parents, fans, and other facts and stats about each team. See BC fans on the screen doesn't "sicken" me. I just want equal coverage.
  18. Can we ban Hextall now, Jim? He's bringing nothing to the conversation and hasn't for quite some time. I thought the policy for trolling stated that if you aren't going to bring anything to the discussion, only bragging, gloating, and harrassing, that at least would warrant a suspension. We've tolerated enough of Hextall. Time for him to go.
  19. I think the Sioux were victimized by some overzealous physical play. Porter's charging penalty (a good call) was very unnecessary. Finley's call was flat out bogus, but would have been a penalty regardless of who was officiating. We didn't give up. It wasn't an embarrassing effort by far. We REALLY played well all game long but we gave up too many shots. BC's 3rd goal was a good example of it. Though, I'm still bothered by how many goals Phillippe has given up 5 hole this year...
  20. Yup. What was interesting was that the BC player actually DUCKED HIS HEAD and got hit in the head with Finley's elbow. Amazing. No, I'm not saying BC dived or pulled any shenanigans. I'm just pointing out that Finley wasn't headhunting. He played a FABULOUS game for the most part. I really think that the first empty netter hurt. I think Melrose was right. Everyone thought that puck was going into the net and they stopped. That and Rooney is REALLY fast. I think we really did come a VERY long way. We just couldn't convert and BC showed why they won 12 in a row coming into this game. At least we made it a game. GO MSU!!!! Yeah, because I really enjoy ESPN having to backtrack when their poster children from New England lose. So, BCLou, I don't have anything against BC, it's players, or its fans. I simply cannot root for BC because they already have the biggest fan in ESPN.
  21. A TON of mistakes in the 3rd period. Oshie and Lamoreaux really tried to keep us in the game. Too bad. A great season nonetheless. Now all that's left to do is the hating. So, bring it on. Let the scapegoating begin.
  22. Then we are in agreement. Bringing up Vermont and UMass is just as relevant as you bringing up UW and MTU.
  23. Eastern bias, to me, comes from certain websites and media outlets, not from teams, fans, or officials. Go back and watch ESPN as soon as it was known that BC would face UND in the 2000 NC game then count how many BC references vs UND references there were. ESPN even rode the bus with UNH to "see their perspective." There was no such coverage of UND or Minnesota. Just the usual platitudes. THAT is Eastern bias. In this case, eastern bias doesn't have much to do with my opinion. I've stopped watching ESPN before game time. I haven't watched ESPN pregame since the UNH/Minnesota tilt because I felt it was really nothing more than an Eastern promotional network. There is no hockey west of the Mississippi according to ESPN unless contraversy or unquestionable players come there. That's why we keep such rapt attention to players like Drew Stafford, Zach Parise, and Travis Zajac even though they are in the NHL now. Their success FORCES the eastern media to acknowledge UND because fans want to know where the heck they came from. The day ESPN pays equal attention to both teams in the NC game, be it UND/MSU or UMass vs. SCSU or whatever likely or unlikely permutation you can dream up, the better the coverage will be. But right now, the Bristol, CT media giant has its blinders firmly in place.
  24. So then bringing up Vermont and UMass (regular season record) is fair game provided I say that it is irrelevant towards tonight's game?
  25. Puffy is childish. His feelings were hurt by the Holy Cross loss and the Sioux fans not willing to console the Gopher fans. That's ok. He's so bad at predicting he wouldn't be able to predict whether or not water is wet without first consulting a few friends of his. I still remember rooting for the Gophers against UNH in the NC game. Maybe it is because I don't think HEA is as good as they think they are. They just have a better marketing department.
