  1. buckysieve- Normally I don't respond to you because most of your posts are basically picking apart other posts only for statements that you find derisive so that you can find ways to be derisive right back (I think the dictionary calls that "petty"). Anyways, Gopher fans don't like physical games, which is because the Gophers generally don't. In any case, it only stands to reason that a big hit by a non-Gopher player on a Gopher player would result in boos and "That should be called." The only thing that was wrong in the post you quoted was the implication that all Gopher fans are whiners. They aren't. A lot are. Just like there are a lot of arrogant ones who can't see quality in other hockey programs unless they are forced to (like when the Gophers are thoroughly trounced). The Sioux lost last night on a fluke goal scored by a player who finally showed the talent that Gretzky saw in him. It only took the better part of 2 seasons at the U to show up. Good for him. nicknack- I think you got that mixed up. Irman's jersey pop was called "classlessness" on the part of him. I'm much more inclined to dismiss Wheeler's jersey pop because of the circumstances and the location in which he did it. You don't go to someone else's place and act in a manner that isn't sportsmanlike. It would be like going over to your boss' house for dinner and bragging about how much better you can cook than the boss can. It just isn't something you do. Wheeler's jersey pop, though I don't like it, was done in front of a buch of Gopher fans near the boards as he went to the boards to acknowledge those fans. It wasn't at center ice or in the middle of the ice. And it wasn't a very big jersey pop. I don't like it but I won't make it a big deal. Irman's jersey pop was classless. PERIOD.
  2. Michigan will watch last night's game for ideas on how to play and beat UND, but if Michigan gives us an inch, I think we'll be able to take a mile. Michigan is pretty solid defensively but Sauer is still a question mark in goal. They are also fairly inconsistent on offense (except for Hensick). We will need to nullify TJ Hensick if we are going to expect anything good regardless. Also, Michigan is an older and more experienced team than UND is. That being said, I just don't see them having an answer to the DOT line if we can get them going.
  3. But it is SO DARN EASY! If we don't blame Lee we'd have to look at other reasons like earlier in the year we would have to blame players like Oshie and Toews for not scoring or last night with Chorney's drop pass. We can't blame Chorney! Lee and Finley are poster children for the haters. They see no evil in everyone else but are more than aware of Lee and Finley's faults. That's good because Greene and Smaby and Commodore were treated the same way. Of course those three were the worst defensemen ever to wear the Sioux jersey. Anyways, Siouxdonyms, you're right. We need to focus on what makes us better as a team, not what we'd like to see kicked off of or benched on the team. Lee logs a tremendous amount of time on the ice and in every situation. Same as Chorney. Maybe we need to do a better job of timing our defensive shifts early in the game to prevent fatigue late in the game? Maybe we need to employ more of what we did against SCSU on teams like Michigan and Minnesota (shoot the puck and crash the net for rebounds). Maybe we need to use our speed more. One thing we DO need to work on is our physical play. We'll be playing in front of non WCHA officials who call the rulebook like the NCAA intends it (which means they do call holding the stick and diving). This can help and hurt us. But it will take adjustment. I don't know what Hakstol has as far as practice techniques, but we should really work on penalty killing, passing, working against the trap, transitioning in the neutral zone, and watching the SCSU games because we did all of those things well.
  4. Too rational. Best to blame it on Lee like everyone else does. It's much easier. And Smaby sucked. Lee should be kicked off the team. GO LEE GO!!! Right now, the only people that suck are the haters. I think Lee will be just fine. I think Finley is just fine. And I think people who look too hard for individual players to blame for losses are the kinds of people that make fanbases look like herds of losers. We lost that game on a FLUKE goal. We didn't play our game and the Gophers played their game very well. And if supporting Lee and stating that there is no such thing as an individual loss in a team game makes me unaware of what a defenseman's role is, then call me blissfully unaware. Lee didn't lose the game, the Sioux lost the game. Blaming Lee is merely a safety valve for the haters so they can feel better about their team getting outplayed by a rival or another team. Keep on hatin'.
  5. Good job. There's our haters! He did get out hussled to the puck, which is why Wheeler skated right in and.... Oh wait. Finley got burned on that play.... oh wait. WHeeler dove swiped the puck toward the net and it went in. FLUKE GOAL. It was a terrible angle with only a sliver of net for the puck to go in and it went in. But blame Lee if you like. And I love the "Yeah he made a few key saves here and there" because it just acknowledges that you really could care less about what good things he brings to the team all you care about is him messing up. ANd, no, he didn't mess up there, he was just unlucky and Wheeler actually showed some talent and luck. But if it makes you happy, blame away. Like PCM said in another thread, wait until he's gone and then see who steps in to fill his spot. His absence will be felt. You know....cause he logs the second most minutes on the ice among defensemen behind Chorney. GO LEE GO!!! Some "dislike" you, but I'll NEVER blame the loss on ya. Teams lose games, not individuals.
  6. Saw much of the OT from afar (I was bowling at the time) and I noticed that just about the entire OT UMN was in their offensive zone. When I noticed that, I said "Well, unless things change drastically, the Gophers are going to win." And then, whamo. They scored. That's ok. We needed this game. It was a good game. A close game apparently. Maybe we can use this loss to our advantage. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the jersey pop. However, I don't like jersey pops regardless of the team.

    Lucia

Asinine was a spelling error, it wasn't meant to be read into more than that. Sheesh. What I was trying to do was to say "Stop worrying about what Lucia is saying and let's get on with our lives." But hey, if you want to deride me for dismissing Lucia's comments as being silly and meaningless, so be it. Lucia's comments STILL aren't worth our time.
  8. Can't believe I'm saying this but.... Go Bucky.

    OUCH!

I'm tempted to say vaht? to this, but maybe I can guess a clarification: You are saying that Sandelin didn't see Dorr's backingout of his committment to UMD. Is that what McLeod stated? Didn't listen to the radio yesterday. Dorr is a headcase, sure, and he played UMD pretty good. Dorr probably turned down a 1st or 2nd line starting role for the Bulldogs for a 4th or 3rd line role with the Gophers. Good work on his part. So obviously, the last laugh will be Sandelin's.

    Lucia

Wow. You liken Lucia to one of the biggest cancers in professional sports? Sorry, I may not like Lucia but that's just over the top. Owens is an idiot who happens to play a pretty good game of football. Lucia is a collegiate head coach who wants to win and to put his team into a not so perilous position if UND does beat UMN. After all, it is a good possibility that UND could win tonight. Which would you rather have? A fan of a team whose head coach says what Lucia says and ends up having the opponent win or having a head coach that says "I think we'll win tonight." and then loses? Both comments are assinine, sure, but one is sandbagging, the other is arrogant. Lucia's comments aren't worth much of our time.

    OUCH!

Please Hextall, she's not that stupid or blind.
  12. Smack talk really doesn't work in my opinion if you can't even get close to portraying who or what you mean. siv I can assume means sieve, but what or who is Oakpizusay?
  13. redwing77

    OUCH!

    **Hides the pen** Who me?
  14. A good point, but yes, I'd rather play the Gophers. They aren't easily beatable despite our results in January, but I hate watching UW play. It's worse than watching Poker. BORING. SCSU/UND tilt today was at least entertaining.
  15. Maybe the WCHA should simply get rid of the 3rd place game then. If it isn't worth anything to the teams than obviously there is no need to play the game. Congrats to UW for going from finishing 7th in the WCHA to 3rd Place. Congrats to SCSU for squandering a 2nd place finish by finishing 4th. Guess it isn't all that bad for them.

    OUCH!

My condolences, RWtD. Don't feel too badly though. YOu still have a ton of talent and won't be rocked nearly as hard as UND or UMN this offseason.
  17. I know this is odd to say, but I think the Gophers winning this game is the best thing that could have happened to the Sioux. This year, UND has faced 3 opponents who have used the trap (to my knowledge) aganst us: UW, DU, and UMD. Our record against them are combined at: 3-4-1. Obviously, I only counted conference opponents. I dont really think MTU employs the trap, but if they do, then we are 3-6-1. Facing teams that like to fly and take risks, such as SCSU and UMN, we are 4-0-2. If anyone can characterise the playing styles of MSUM, CC, and UAA I'll factor those in as well. If we play against the GOphers like we played against SCSU, we'll repeat. And I'm glad UW's season is over.
  18. Actually, when you think about it, there is a certain degree of advantage to it, yes, but not against the Sioux. The REA has an olympic sized sheet as well.
  19. Who do I respect the most in the WCHA changes year to year. Last year I respected SCSU the most because in one year Motzko changed SCSU from a mediocre team with a crappy assed coach to a team to be reckoned with. This year, though, I'm going with MTU. They took an underrated goaltender and basically nothing else and ended the season ranked and tough. Outside the WCHA... I'd probably say Maine or Holy Cross. Not because of what Holy Cross did to the Gophers, but because how genuine and respectful they were. And Maine's had a large share of classy fans and a classy program.
  20. Be nice on this one. Crisp passes are crisp passes. There's no requirement that a crisp pass HAS to be to a teammate
  21. Great game Sioux! Now Go Gophers so we can see a similar styled game tommorrow! Not even the DOT line can make the Badgers play an interesting game. Oh yeah, now, PWR doesn't matter. We're in. Period. Locked and we're going in loaded, baby! Kellog's Players of the game are the 2nd line for the Sioux: 4 goals and 4 assists for them. Really, though, everyone played REALLY well, even the fourth line. My player of the game is Vande Velde though. Man that assist he had on Watkins' absolute rocket was beautiful. At least SCSU did something Mankato couldn't: Kept Duncan off the scoreboard!
  22. SCSU getting the benefit of Shepherd in the 3rd. Couple of obvious penalties not called against SCSU. OH and holding the stick is definitely legal. Add hooking to the list of "legal" for SCSU. Let Shepherd help the Huskies. We're still kicking their asses. In fact, CLosed circuit to Ray Saigo: Hows that for hostile and abusive!
  23. Regarding his potential: Chris Vandevelde...2g 1a in one period... Any questions? YAY CHRIS!
  24. Obviously what Grand Forks needs is a Dunkin' Donuts. If they had one, then the way to get Duncan's name out would be much easier than it is now. Dunc's Donut Dunker's -- Ryan Duncan endorsed dunkable donut squares (comes in packs of 16) that have chocolate icing on them. Yum yum!
  25. Dunno. I think he is capable of being a good coach. The last game vs. the Sioux was played very clean by the Mavs. The fact is, will he choose to coach like that next season? Probably not, but I'm optimistic.
