  1. It took you two hours to change a flat tire?
  2. I don't even think it's that easy to figure out. Most of the people I grew up with that I still communicate with said that their first time with alcohol was due to the influence of friends, not parents. I think everyone here went to high school knowing at least one person they'd classify as "stupid." However, in the context of what we're talking about, how many high schoolers can identify a friend that is truly "stupid" in this way? I seem to recall not many people wanting to hang out with the "idiots." So, it is natural to exclude your friends when you think about the crowd you hang with. My best friend's father is an alcoholic. This means alcohol has been around the house his entire life. He's not "dry" by any means, but he certainly isn't the kind that goes out for a drink every Friday. In fact, he rarely drinks alochol at all. I think there are MANY reasons why kids drink. Most of the reasons are infantile at best. Sure, I'm aware that most of the time drinking doesn't cause any problems regardless of age (within reason). However, the justification for doing so has never been so meaningless.
  3. Funny, I know a few OR nurses that claim the same thing. My mother plays janitor sometimes after the dieticians get through with patients some times. Having gone through what she describes (She says it like "Well, that dietician doesn't like his/her job"), it's nice to have someone competant to clean things up.
  4. I turned away from the game when that happened! I had to set up a tape. In any case, has anyone remembered a cheaper more poorly officiated playoffs? Did it get like this last year?
  5. Kindof a silly afterthought, but Dubay was ranting on how May should get a 50 game suspension for his sucker punch. Can't say I wouldn't be angry too if one of my team's players got sucker punched like Johnsson was, but 50 games? He flip flopped so many times this morning. "Its just like Cory Simon" or Bertuzzi or McSorley. Well, no it's not. Simon, Bertuzzi, and McSorley used their sticks, which in combination with their arms make it far more dangerous than a mere punch. I do agree with them that the punishment was light. I don't think May should play for the remainder of the playoffs. However, let's get real here. He was also ranting on how Brad May can't play hockey. Interestingly enough, I feel the same way about Boogaard, but no one is calling for his head. Brad May has played over 880 NHL games and has 123 goals out of his nearly 280 points. Since 2005, Brad's offense has tailed off, for sure, only scoring 3 goals and 7 assists since Boogaard entered the league. Of course, Boogaard has only 7 points in his NHL career. Now, assuming hockeydb is correct, here's another interesting comparison. Not counting the playoffs, since 2005, May has accrued 113 PIM. Boogaard has accrued 120 THIS YEAR ALONE. For a guy who is a worthless hack that can't play, he certainly isn't hacking it too much. So, seriously, before everyone throws May under the bus in general, be aware that Minnesota has a player that contributes just as little as May does to the Ducks. Sure, Boogerbrain has yet to throw any cheap shots akin to what May threw, but Dubay should have kept to the cheap shot and not playing ability. I wouldn't keep Boogaard OR May on my team if I were a general manager.
  6. I think you are right, Sioux-cia. Cho was a nutjob. Every time I read or hear his name I have a strong urge to spit at the source of it. All this attention is just giving those who think that they too are victims "just like Cho was" more ammo to use for the next shooting. The day after the shootings we had: One CNN story about some guy who was threatening another school with violence, half of the Minnesota campus shut down by a bomb threat, a part of NDSU shut down because some idiot forgot his duffle bag at the bus stop... There are freaks out there and the trick to handling them is finding some way to do so that doesn't seem too discriminatory. But the LAST thing you want to do is to do ANYTHING that could possibly be seen as a sort of reinforcement of such behavior, such as giving Cho all that air time. And, no, it's not just violence. We see that kind of thing with the Anna Nicole Smith stuff as well. When Anna Nicole Smith's death is more heavily covered than the death of someone more worthy (like Gerald Ford by comparison)... When Cho is coverred more than the victims (Or basically "Such a tragedy. We feel so bad for the victims of the shooting, but why did Cho do this? Is he really to blame?") it creates a possible reinforcement to the freakish behavior. Right now I'm sure there is some messed up dude saying "Cho knew what I was going through. I should do the same so people finally understand what it is to hurt like I do." Cho isn't a victim. He's a psychopathic killer. He's only different from Charles Manson in that Manson had some charisma. Just thinking of Cho makes me livid. But I do wish he was still alive. He'd be a great poster child for bringing back cruel and unusual punishment.
  7. So then that mystery's solved. The next mystery is: When will RWTD resume writing on her blog?
  8. Nope. I've gotten to only watch the Wild, SJ/Nashville (2 games), and only one Buffalo game (I believe Buffalo won 3-2). That Buffalo game rivaled Minnesota vs Anaheim games 4 and 5 for the worst officiated games of the playoffs though.
  9. I think the hockey clinics are right, but I'd word it differently. I'd say he'll spend his community service teaching hockey to disadvantaged hockey camp attendees at the next UND Hockey Camp.
  10. Having seen a catfight or two () I wonder how many people out there that watch catfights can tell the difference between two girls fighting and two girls who can't wait to take each others' clothes off? :(
  11. I hate Illinois Nazis. :guns engine:
  12. Good point. Losing Okposo would hurt, sure, but it won't be quite the loss to the Gophers if they lose Goli. And I think Goli will sign.
  13. He got cut off camera, according the the FSN Homers. The guys in and around the net were getting pushed around quite a bit. They never showed a replay with Selanne. The replay I would have loved to see was that post Anaheim hit late in the second period (IIRC). They showed one replay and I don't think it went in, but I would have loved to have seen just how close it was. I remember Brad Miller's goal early last season that went in and out so fast that nobody caught it. That shot by Anaheim must have literally been inches away from a goal. AccountingStu- That's why I figure the Gopher announcers are somehow less homeristic than the Wild announcers. At least Woog has the capability of seeing the whole play sometimes. The Ducks played dirty the last two games at times, I'm not going to argue that, but the Wild weren't angels either (understandably lost though because the Wild's missed calls weren't really that dirty... just illegal according to the rulebook).
  14. I agree. The argument of if there was a security guard there it would have been lower too also holds the same amount of water. I just think that the guard would have died first instead of what happened. Of course, that one bullet in the guard means one less VT student... I want to know this: WHY THE HELL is the media trying to build some sort of understanding and, from it, some kind of sympathy for the shooter? I could give a DAMN about this guy. I just hope they hide this guy's grave site or fence it to prevent people desecrating it on a daily basis. No sympathy. Throw his ass into a shark tank and let the sharks have a feast. Or maybe Piranhas. No. We don't want any more deaths, even if they are sharks or fish. Food poisoning, you know, as he probably tastes like sh!$. I don't know. Stop wasting time on a former member of the World's refuse and start focusing on the 33 others or so that didn't deserve to die.
  15. I don't know who the heck this new guy is. But I hope Stafford is tapped as associate head coach... if he applies anyways.
  16. I think the losses of those three will only be felt in the D. I think Minnesota brings in enough offensive talent every year to accomodate for forwards leaving early. They've just had trouble getting steady and decent defensive recruits. Goli and EJ were their best. Hagemo, IMO, would probably be as good as well if he could still play.
  17. Didn't say he won't be drafted. I think that he will be drafted in the late rounds. like Kvolavog.
  18. Here's a few comments from my perspective: 1. Just because May and Moen are idiotic thugs doesn't make the entire Ducks team cheap. I don't recall hearing much of either of their names the first 3 games and May didn't play in Game 5. 2. If it weren't for the Buffalo series, I think this one would have to be the worst officiated. The refs ignored so many CFB and boarding penalties on both sides, ignored certain acts that brought more chippiness into play (Cross check to the chin in Game 4; stick to the groin in game 5)... so much so that I thought I was watching a WCHA series. 3. How could Selanne bleed like he did but not have it be a penalty? Did he cut himself? Good noncall there, especially after the two 4 minute penalties (one per side) that he called where I think both weren't really double minors. They could have bit their tongues, for heaven's sake! 4. I was rather impressed by Boogaard's restraint. Not his play, but his restraint. 5. Anaheim played physically, but not as physically as the Wild. The Wild talked A LOT. Anaheim simply played the game. Well, now the Wild have a LOT more time to talk. Anaheim has games to prepare for. Something about talking: Its one thing if you are talking and backing it up. It's another to be losing the game and yapping. I'm the best at dunking the basketball, you know. All 5'6" of me. PLEASE. 6. I still don't like LeMaire. His idea for trying to get great offensive chances is to try for the long pass for a breakaway and it works against teams with poor defense or defefnses that are prone to make mistakes. Anaheim's D is pretty good. Looks like good D's don't give those opportunities up and LeMaire had nothing to counter it. 7. It was a beautiful textbook 2 on 1 goal by the Wild though. Too bad it came at the cost of Anaheim forgetting that they had 5 players on the ice to Minnesota's 4. Regardless though, it actually looked like the Wild had some life to them for those 45 seconds or so. 8. Wild powerplay = CRAPTASTIC. I'm sure Giguere won't mind having to replace the ugly logo on his jersey from all the rubber burning it. 9. I can't decide who is more homeristic: Gophers or Wild TV announcers. I admit Woog knows a lot of hockey so I'm inclined to say that the Wild announcers are more homeristic. Woog sometimes talks Masucko down from his idiot perch whereas the Wild guys run amok with their homerisms. Heh, I loved the call for Selanne to be called for a diving penalty. I can see it now: Selanne dives to the ice, cuts himself, and calls for a penalty. PLEASE. If the situation with Selanne had been oh...Gaborik with the blood running down his face, I'm sure the FSN rubes would be ALL OVER the refs. 10. Backstrom played amazing hockey. He made ONE mistake all game long (Perry's goal) and that mistake is even debateable. He is my Minnesota Wild Player of the Series.
  19. I'm not arguing the penalty on Moen. That guy is seriously undermining the Ducks. Don't know why he is put on the ice in the first place. But Boogaard should have gone as well. Lots of crappy non calls and calls. And I hate the Homers for FSN North. They're so damn one sided.
  20. Ref is sympathetic to Minnesota. Moen commits YET ANOTHER stupid penalty (good call) but Ref decides that Boogaard's stick to the crotch of Niedermeyer (the incident that GOT Moen there in the first place) was not a penalty. WOW. Minnesota has to score on this gift PP in the second period. EDIT: Ok, to be fair, the ref had, for the most part basically swallowed the whistle. There have been plenty of overt penalties on both sides (How Niedermeyer didn't get 2 for boarding on Skoula I have no clue) but seriously, this ref has to keep control of the game or it is going to get even uglier.
  21. Nice. Boogaard could get in 12 fights, really thrash the Ducks to shreds, but what will it prove if the scoreboard shows the Ducks are ahead? In fact, if the Wild come out with revenge on their minds, I think it will be a great game... if you are an Anaheim fan. They play desperation hockey like Game 4: They have a chance to win. They come out looking for blood and to take it to them physically: The result will be like Game 3. End of series. That being said, it's a toss up tonight. However, I think Ducks take the series either tonight or in Game 6.
  22. I thought it was August of the graduation year.
  23. Look at three teams I know that are at or near the cap threshold: Devils Red Wings Wild Now, let me ask you: Which teams spent their money better. HINT: For the talent per $, it isn't Minnesota. And as for Walz, let him go. There are plenty of grinders that are younger and cheaper and better than he is. Actually, they have Pouliot who very well could step into Walz' role. If not, how about their 2006 first rounder? Sheperd I think? Don't recall. But he's a scoring center IIRC. Walz isn't a loss. Who are the others? As far as I'm concerned (among skaters): If your on the Wild and have last names OTHER than: Parrish, Demitra, Gaborik, Koivu, Bouchard, or Rolston, it's not going to be a big loss. And there is an argument that losing Parrish wouldn't be that big of a hit either.
  24. Hmm... a point well taken. I should also mention that there is a strong difference between the French speaking Canadians at large and the Quebecois French speaking Canadians. I know some French Speaking Manitobans and they aren't NEARLY as whacko as some of these Seperatist Quebecois and radical pro-French Canadians in Quebec. French speaking Canadians are one thing, the radicals that are behind this persecution of Shawville based solely upon the fact that they prefer English to French is another.
