The go-to move for newbies to the board and program is to defend the coach based on 1-2 years of knowledge. I don't see a whole lot of long-time fans that have witnessed the ebbs and flows of this program from Gunther to Glas to now Jones defending him after 10 years. We will see what Faison thinks in a week or so. The roster will be good next year.
-
His team was average on the floor. Did you watch them? Way overrated if they were picked 2nd. Had a bunch 10 point scorers and no star. All effort.
-
Do ya think people are factoring in the coaches history, maybe?
-
The new bar for UND BB everybody. I don't care what other teams did right now. "Pushing teams to the limit" sucks.
-
Yikes. I know what I would rather have UND do with the 40k.
-
Does that mean the Men and Women are bidding for home games? Wowza.
-
Therefore, he overachieved that season. Which means he underachieved this season with all this real D1 talent. Correct?
-
After looking at the Big Sky format change, Jones really didn't do anything that he hadn't done before. He won a preliminary and a quarterfinal game this year...before he won a quarterfinal and a semi final game against two mid to bottom level teams. So essentially no different than his best year. He lost to Weber State both years.
-
Problem is those expectations were already laid out after last year as a form of a mild ultimatum. Like I said I am torn on this because he did put the roster together and they are going to be better next year.
-
I am actually torn on this subject. Reasons being: 1. The entire roster is coming back, essentially. 2. From what I read, W. Baker is the best or second best player on this roster and he is eligible next year. Due to the above two factors, Jones should get a chance to coach the best roster UND has had in D1 era. His record is still below average but UND should be in the 18-20 win range next year. Here is the rub: to allow Jones to coach next year means Faison extends him in next few weeks. So Jones gets at least two more years. IF next years team flops and fails to make conf. championship game or tourney, UND is stuck with him for another year after that, more than likely another year of mediocrity since it cannot buyout two years. All the eggs are in the 2017 basket, IMO.
-
If those are the reasons then I am less than thrilled about the commitment to basketball that UND has. His yearly records would certainly allow for a debate on how much of an "positive trajectory" this program is taking. Maybe it's the reality of where UND is at on the athletic department chart of importance. 15-16 wins is the goal every year.
-
Why do you feel its a given he will be extended?

Girls came is great right now. 3 mins left and Shanley up 4. Minot and UND commit Ben Bolinske should cut down the nets.

Big Sky Semis: #1 Weber vs #5 UND (3/11 7:35)

By a freshman. Rahe got what he wanted. Not arguing that it wasn't a good shot to take, though. Just not the perfect setup for UND as they obviously wanted Hooker to take it but he was doubled. Conversely, Weber had their best shooter take the 3 to tie it. Sucks it worked out that way after UND played them even all game. -

They double-teamed him. There was literally zero chance of him getting the ball and even if he did what was he going to do with two guys on him? Rahe's plan to surprise UND with a double team on Hooker worked perfect, unfortunately. -

Saturday Morning Quarterback Time that has nothing to do with UND actually did: if you had to do it all over would you take timout right when you notice they were doubling Hooker? Then, reconfigure and make sure you come down hard with Crandall four on three, leaving Hooker out of the picture near half court. Once again, just trying to replay it in my head the NEXT morning. Geno got a good shot but wondering if they could have somehow got a layup based on Weber's defense. -

They doubled Hooker on the in bounds. No chance. Smart move by Randino. -

Shanks had huge rebounds at the end there and got fouled. Really really wish Geno would drained that FT line jumper to win the game. That would have been epic. -

That was a hell of an effort and they could have easily won. They were prepared. -

Big Sky Quarters: #4 ISU vs #5 UND (3/10: 4:35 Central)

I am still amazed they played that well. ISU was playing alright, too. The big test is up next. Beat Weber and shut everyone up (myself included). -
