The official new name will be The University of North Dakota Team formerly known as the Fighting Sioux. And just like this worked for the artist Prince, no one really cared and just went ahead and kept calling him Prince. But seriously, how did this get to the point where we went from having this lawsuit against the NCAA all but wrapped up to changing our name? Changing our name was never even a part of this? If anything they should have said it is a 8 year window because it really doesn't matter until then anyway? I don't think the alumni who contributed to this cause had this in mind? Someone needs to be held accountable. The worst case scenario was we lose the lawsuit(not likely, this go round anyway) and we can't host playoff games which wasn't going to matter for the next 5 years anyway? If this is Wayne's way of negotiating after spending a million dollars and having the case wrapped up, he might be the first republican I have voted against in quite some time. Pathetic.

True. The Gophers while being 1-7 have so far played a cup-cake schedule which makes their offensive statistics less impressive and their defensive numbers astonishing. they have earned the right to be called the worst defense in Division 1.

Difference between the Michigan/Appalaichan matchup and the Bison/Gopher matchup is that if the teams played 10 more times, Michigan would probably win all 10 as that game was a true upset in every sense of the word...if the Bison and Gophers played 10 more times, the Bison win at least 7, the upset would have been them losing to the Gophers. I was alot more impressed with their victory over Central Michigan who while not in the "Big Ten" is a better squad then this pathetic Gopher team.

No question who the better team was today. Bohl is a damn good coach and will end up in D1 sometime soon, but I don't think it will be at Nebraska(I'd elaborate, but last time I did I got moderated and scolded )

I would have also sent this to Joel Maturi but it is quite obvious that he is a powerless figurehead. Mr. Hartman, Are you aware that your men's basketball team is scheduled to play both the Central Michigan CHIPPEWAS and the Florida State SEMINOLES in November? The last time I checked neither of these schools are in the Big Ten or have any conference affiliation with the University of Minnesota? I think it should fall on your shoulders to walk into coach Tubby Smith's office and let him know that in order to maintain some sense of integrity at the University of Minnesota and to avoid looking like a bunch of hypocrites that you will have to forfeit these games. Tough break, but policy is policy. I was also thinking about picking up some University of North Dakota FIGHTING SIOUX apparel this year, but was wondering if you could advise me as to what merchandise will be on sale this year at Mariucci arena as you had such a great selection to choose from last year! That is NOT what their policy says. The 2003 policy discourages Minnesota'sschool's athletics department from competing against all teams with American Indian mascots and nicknames. But the policy wasn't strictly enforced until last year, when Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi asked the committee for more guidance and was advised to follow the policy more closely.

Just sent this to the U of M athletic department. So who is the lucky person who gets to tell Tubby that you are forfeiting 2 games to the Central Michigan CHIPPEWAS and the Florida State SEMINOLES? I mean you are of course forfeiting those game to maintain your integrity, correct? Are you also going to be selling University of North Dakota FIGHTING SIOUX merchandise at Mariucci arena again this year? Joel, go to the advisory committee, ask them for your "stones" and make the right decision. Anyone think that they are a little nervous about recruiting? Think about it. Their football team barely beat NDSU(a team UND beat up for the last 13 years like it was their job), their mens BB team has been pathetic for a few years, and their women's BB team is defintely on the downslide. Playing and losing to NDSU and UND cannot help recruiting efforts.

Tubby is going to be pissed. He is going to have a tough enough time trying to turn the gopher basketball program around and now they are forfeiting 2 games. Tough to get to 20 wins that way.

WWU 28 Davis 21, plus 10(3 for homefield since it was at Davis) + UND 63 WWU 42, plus 24(since UND was on the road) = UND plus 34 over Davis NDSU by 19(subtract 3 for homefield)=16 Looks like the Sioux are about plus 18 over the Herd!

Great event at JT Cigarro tonight. Alot of Sioux fans there and a great atmosphere to have a couple beers and talk one on one with the Sioux coaches and ex-coach who were there! If you live in Fargo and didn't make it out, you missed out. I hope they have a couple more social events like this in Fargo this year.
