I would have to agree. Watched a good bit of the Gophers/Huskies series and I thought the Gophers were the better team both nights. I think St. Cloud might have a couple more highly skilled guys but as Lou Nanne once said....physicality is also a skill...... and it is something the Gophers have added over the last couple years due in no part I am sure to being pushed around by UND for the preceeding 3-4 years.

Or Be-Bops in Blaine or Povs in Andover.......Nothing funnier than someone from the 763 chirping on ND for being unsophisticated.
-
As some have said, we will officially, unofficially be known as the Fighting Sioux for probably the next 35-40 years or more so whether we have a new moniker or not is not of great importance. I don't mind us being THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA for now.

How bout this guy? http://www.gobison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=11843&SPID=695&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=2400&ATCLID=205402015&Q_SEASON=2012 We should be able to pay him more as a Defensive Coordinator than he makes as a linebacker coach...and if not we really need to re-evauluate our football program.

They have a precedent set. Didn't do anything to Mersch last week.....hell they didn't do anything to Hansen for the rodents last year when he came off the bench and delivered a 2 handed slash to the back of Blood's legs. -
I think his father is Mike who played football for Minnesota in the mid 80's.

Cable One sucks....that is all. -
Turgeon is a tough kid. I would have to bet on him. We don't really have anyone in his weight class as a fighter, maybe MacWilliam but why trade our top dman for their 6th or 7th...Panzarella has alot of experience but he is giving up 40 pounds. I remember being in college and Mike Turgeon would make his way back to Forks for the weekend. You pretty much steered clear of him when you saw him out at the antique because he was a tough sob and also was a complete jackass. I don't think I ever saw him out where he didn't try and pick a fight.....he was one of those guys who would walk through the bar that was 100 people over fire code with his shoulders square and rigid and would try and pick a fight with anyone who bumped into him....like I said a complete jackass.
-
terrible call. we need to score on this cuz these 2 idiots will be looking for a makeup call the rest of the night and Blais will be chirping them until he gets it.
-
That happens when you lose 4 or 5 shifts in a row after killing penalty
-
Gritty win! Like him or not, but Jones coached a hell of a game tonight with the hand he had.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw_sK0bL5zg I was working in Bismarck on Monday and Tuesday and went to the BHS/CHS game on Tuesday night. Good atmosphere, place was packed. Century actually uses this kid at Forward more than D but he is legit and you can't teach 6 foot 3 and 190 lbs. I was standing next to a Montreal Canadians scout for part of the game and saw a couple other guys with note pads as well. I am guessing he would be a good 5th or 6th round gamble and then see how he develops. I would guess he would play in juniors for a year or maybe 2 if they are projecting him as a Dman.

Agree...Thank God we had the foresight to rent a suite....the booze was needed.

Don't hold your breath. They didn't do anything to Hansen from the Gophs last year after he jumped off the bench and delivered a 2 hander to the back of Ben Blood's legs.

Yeah UND has had a couple guys over the years who have practiced some theatrics and I don't really remember Kraft and Pohl as being floppers. Spehar was in a class with Robbie Earl and Cepis was pretty bad as well. In the article, MacWilliam mentions that he was not taught to play that way(and I would guess discouraged). I think it is a cultural thing to some point. If you look at the players that are prone to dive the Euros flop more than anyone....maybe it comes from the soccer culture in many European countries? Americans are much more likely to flop than Canadian players which would explain why UND has probably had less of this activity than most other teams as it is probably not looked highly upon in the UND room by teammates or coaches.

Greg---was horrible ref, current director of officiating Derek-Pretty decent official.....by WCHA standards anyway Brad-horrible official

Greg Shepard doesn't ref.

Someone mentioned Marlon Bell from Halliday a few posts back. Another guy that would have been scary with a 3 point line and he was so quick as well, a definite ankle breaker.....I remember him going to BSC and lighting it up for a bout 30 a game until Christmas time and semester break(grades) came......and he was never heard from again.
-
I will say that in comparison to their competition, the 76 LaMoure team was the best team I saw play.....I will also say that in 1984 Linton was the best team in A or B. Class A that year went Century, St. Mary's, Bismarck High with Century beating St. Mary's by 2 for the title after St. Mary's had beat Bismarck by a deuce in the semi-finals...Linton went into St. Mary's Gym for their Holiday tournament, didn't get 1 call in their favor and still handled St. Mary's without much problem.

If anyone thinks I am partially responsible for this thread going off the tracks I would just like to say.................you are welcome.

Good memories! Grew up going to Class B tournament....Born in Hillsboro, lived in Litchville, and Linton before moving to Bismarck in 5th Grade. My father taught and then got into school administration until we moved to Bismarck. I was 11 in 1977 when The Epic Hillsboro vs. Epping game went down. Even though I was now living in a Class A town, my parents still wrote me an excuse to get out of school and/or I went and would work for free pop and hot dogs running the stats from the floor up to the press box at the quarter breaks. Of course everyone in town fell in love with Epping and my friends were all pretty confident Epping would win so I took them for some pretty serious cash!($1 at a time). I remember Hillsboro controlling the game for the most part until going into their vaunted, hated 4 corner offense that usually meant it was game over but somehow Epping rallied and got back into the game and it was really up for grabs until the end. The crowd in their was incredible. I remember a couple years later and my parents would usually be gone during the Class B tourney for my dad's business meetings so my Grandma would come and stay with us and my friends from Linton would come up and stay with me and during years they were not in the tourney, Hillsboro coach Eddie Beyer and Dr. Gibson would pick us up and shuttle us to all the games. I remember in 1979 being impressionable 7th graders and us thinking their was no way Halliday could lose with their run and gun offense. On the way to the game, Coach Beyer confidently bet us all a coke that Sargent Central the slow, plodding, eastern team would take them down....and they did. On the way home we asked him how he was so sure and he told us he was staying at the same hotel as Halliday was and that their team was whooping it up pretty good on Friday night/Saturday morning and looked to be in pretty tough shape when he saw them at breakfast. Coach Beyer told my friend Pete that he thought Hillsboro would have a pretty strong team in 1984(our graduation year) and asked how Linton would be. He bet Pete a coke on this possible future matchup and sure enough they met up in the semi-finals in 1984 on Linton's way to the state title....after the game Coach Beyer went into the locker room and congratulated the Linton team and wished them luck in the Championship, told Dennis Beck(the protypical 5-9 power forward he had never seen anything like him) and shook hands with Coach Carr and then turned and handed Pete a Coke. Love the Class B tourney, still a pretty good event, but not like it used to be before consolidation and big town private schools came along.

Well i didn't say he was right.

Awesome game! Huge road win!
