  1. While it is true that NDSU has owned North Dakota recruits lately, we need to remember that we are talking about 6-8 kids a year tops and probably 25% of them are preferred walkons. Minnesota and Wisconsin are the areas where NDSU has been building their championship teams.
  2. FYP
  3. Wow..... I am in the school that if your coach leaves then the kid should be able to weigh his options at that time as well for many reasons. Hopefully a kid falls back on the friendships and bonds he has made with his teammates when thinking through a decision like this and the school and coaching staff have instilled a culture in the program that would discourage a kid from leaving in this situation.....we have obvisously failed here. I don't have any inside knowledge but it sure sounds like in addition to this hiring process being drawn out the communication between the UND Athletic Department and the football team has been lacking at best. I have not heard how many or if any of the football players have been involved in this process at all? If not.....why? I know when NDSU "fired" Babich that the remaining Senior Class and possibly other team leaders had meeting with Gene Taylor as they went through the process and then comminicated with their teammates to keep everyone in the loop. As far as recruiting. Yes it puts us in a bad spot for this year but it can be overcome. NDSU absolutely whiffed on their recruiting class that graduated last year but more than made up for it with the outgoing class of seniors this year.
  4. Sorry. I agree with you 100%. I accidently cut off the post you were quoting.
  5. When Dale left UND did not open up the job externally so Bubba as an employee of UMD at the time was not able to apply. Pump your brakes.
  6. I agree that Bubba should have been the choice to be our coach when Lennon left.......but that was never an option for him at the time.
  7. I am also inclined to lean towards DeBoer at this point. For the record I wanted Bubba over Mussman when Lennon left but we chose not to open up the job and the results are what they are at this point. Maybe DeBoer would reach out to his former DC, Chuck Morrell who is now the head coach at Montana Tech....Or bring Schmidt with him from SIU....good either way.
  8. ^^^^ This. I don't really care that we are not hiring a "name" coach...I would much rather our next Coach make a name for himself here and if a higher program pulls him out of here after 4 or 5 years that will have meant he was successful here and the culture has changed and he also likely would be surrounded by exceptional coaching talent and the next coach would already likely be on staff.
  9. I would guess if Bubba gets the HC job that there would be a 25-35% chance DeBoer would come as OC and if DeBoer got the job I would guess that there is almost no chance of Bubba coming in as DC as he would ride it out with Lennon.
  10. Correct. Faison should have had a very good idea on 9/28/13 that we were going to be hiring a new coach and should have had an existing list together which he should have been able to add to over the last 3 months. On another note, while it was very early in his coaching career when they had him as a coach and he has obviously been successful at St. Thomas, I have a couple friends that had Caruso as a coach at NDSU and respect for and liking him are not words they use to describe him. They would both cringe when the media down here threw his name into the mix as an NDSU head coaching candidate.
  11. Klieman was in a good spot and probably benefitted from our dog and pony show. You know Taylor saw this and realized it was not the process he wanted to go through at NDSU. Sounds like their HR policies would have added an additional 5 business days to the process.
  12. Wow. I don't even
  13. I think Bubba is a hell of a defensive coach and all, but who does he bring in as a recruiter/assistant coach? I know a couple guys who had him their living room back when he was at UND and to put it nicely, it was awkward according to them.
  14. Completely different pool depending upon the coach who is hired. We are hiring a head coach, then they will put together their staff so until the head coach is hired it is pretty much pointless for people in this thread to continue saying I want this guy as OC or this guy as DC....No one applied for those jobs because they aren't posted right now. Sorry for the mini rant, just trying to shut down this thread drift before it gets worse.
  15. I agree. Not saying that we automatically hire him but if he applies it would be foolish not to interview him. Remember Faison has no prior attachment to him or his family so let Brooks try and sell himself on why he should be the next coach here.
  16. On another note....Coaches have had buyers remorse before in these situations and if I am the Wyoming AD I would have serious reservations about having Bohl finish out the season in Fargo and around the program for another month....emotions do sometimes come into play vs. money and I don't know that I would want to give my new coaching hire a month to change his mind.
  17. Correct. Just like the reality is starting to settle in with Bison fans that a coach like Kliemann and possibly even Vigen would rather be the DC and OC at Wyoming than the head coach in Fargo.....UND fans need to realize that the quality of applicants in a nationwide search for the Bison job will be vastly superior in quality to the applicants for the UND job. While I would be happy with any of the 3 Coaches you mentioned for the UND job I don't know that any of those 3 would seriously even be in the mix for the NDSU job.....It is what it is right now.
  18. I think Taylor is in a tough spot. Ideally in this situation you would want to go Bo Schembechler on the bit and tell Coach Bohl good luck in Wyoming and you appoint Vigen or Kliemann as interim coach for the rest of the season with the idea that one of them or both of them is going to be strongly considered as the next head coach at NDSU.....but if the rumors are true and they are going with him that certainly changes the dynamic and then you might have to bite the bullet and let Bohl and his staff finish out the season. I seem to recall situations in the past where a coach who was leaving continued on and coached a bowl game while the new coach had already been named.
  19. That may be the silver lining for NDSU if there is one in losing a great football coach like Bohl. If he had went to Minnesota or Nebraska or other big name school in the Midwest, Kliemann would have probably went with him.....Wyoming might not be as desirable for him vs. being head coach at NDSU.
  20. web feed is a joke. reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLsDvGlIDh0
  21. Looks like the Concordia-St. Paul coach should definitely get a call. The UMD coach would probably be call #2. Looks like both have very able assistants on their staff as well. This led me to look at the ridiculousness of the NCAA once again. The D2 women's volleyball tournament is down to the final 16 right now and their regionalization of the tourney is laughable and sad at the same time. In the regional being held in Duluth you have #1 seed and 2nd ranked UMD playing #4 seed and 7th ranked SW Minnesota St. and #2 seed and 5th ranked Central Missouri playing #3 seed and 3rd ranked and 6 time defending champion Concordia St. Paul....tough bracket
