  1. Rebounding is the thing I have noticed the last few years as being the thing that is most frustrating thing about watching UND basketball.....for the record I see many college teams that rebound just as poorly. Last night against Marquette, when they missed it was basically a 50-50 proposition of who would gain possession. When a shot goes up you see all of our guys just turn around and look at the rim and try and figure out where the ball is going to end up and then hope they have the athletic ability and luck of the bounce to get it before their opponent does. I would rather see 1 or 2 of our big guys average 9 or 10 boards a game rather than all of our guys have 2-6 a game....this would happen if everyone did their job and actually put a body on their guy and had confidence that their teammates were doing the same. You can tell that we do not spend any team on rebounding. An average team should have 4 times as many defensive rebounds as their opponent has offensive rebounds and the goal should probably be 5 to 1. On offense you want to trend that number the other way and get at least 25% and try and get to 30%. An average team like Quinnipiac(5-5) who I wouldn't imagine is any more athletic than UND leads the country in rebounding and they don't have a guy on their roster over 6-9. It is all about effort and technique. When I went to school at UND, Gunther was still the coach and then Glas. both those teams rebounded pretty well but Gunther's teams were exceptionally hard nosed. I remember watching practices a few times and watching them attach the small rim or rim blocker on the bucket and every guy would check the guy they were guarding and block out(we did this drill when I was in high school as well) and a coach would throw up a shot from outside and you had to block your guy out well enough for the ball to hit the floor. if the offense got the ball, you ran. Sometimes in high school we would even do the drill with anything goes for the offensive guy as far as pushing, grabbing, going over the back etc.(usually did this until tempers flared a bit). I used to take it personally and get a little embarrassed even in pickup ball if the guy I was checking got an offensive rebound. Anyway long story short, Coach Jones says all the time and for that matter "coachspeak" these days is valuing the basketball and not wasting possessions....I think obtaining possession can be just as important. Unfortunately fundamentals in basketball have all but gone away from the NBA on down to where you have very few teams that understand the game and instead rely on athletic ability alone....I know if started in the NBA and has been a running joke since at least the 80's about how much traveling is allowed in the NBA but that has now made its way to the college game as well. In about a 5 minute stretch last night we counted at least a dozen non called traveling violations on each end.
  2. Nope. Trick question.
  3. Today? Or for the season?
  4. #rollturd I have never figured out why the Bison fans put up the Texas Longhorns signal. Wouldn't it be a more accurate depiction if they just raised the pinky and index knuckles just a bit to show off their little bitty nubs of horns?
  5. I don't have a problem with the ball screen offense but you have to change it up on occasion and if the other team adjusts to it you need to counter. NDSU just turned the screener loose and doubled the ball since the screener wasn't a credible threat to score. After a while I was happy that Calcaterra just traveled or threw up a brick rather than swallowing his tongue. I have never seen a guy so uncomfortable with a basketball in his hands.....adjustments that should have and could have been made would have been to have someone who can score at the rim(Nash) or on a pick and pop(Tyler, Antwi) set the pick and make NDSU play straight up. Another option would have been to set the screen higher so you could maintain space and keep your angle to pass to the opposite corner and prevent the weakside defender from setting up in the lane. We could have also cleared the lane and attempted to break them down 1 on 1 with dishes to the help defenders man. Also with Nash being guarded by Brown we could have posted Nash and used dribble entry to the wing and ran the ball through Nash for offense down low or easy kick outs when they double him....I am no basketball genius but these were all things I pointed out to the person I was at the game with at the first media timeout.....we didn't make any adjustments, not one.
  6. According to who? I have been told it has never happened.
  7. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. The obsession continues.
  8. As I have said a few times and it continues to ring true. Not all Bison fans are bad people, it really is the rotten few thousand that spoil it for the other 11. #rollturd
  9. If NDSU hasn't sent a championship ring to Tim Brewster the last 3 years it is criminal.
  10. Kid got smoked and you call that a dive?
  11. I was at the game until about the 8 minute mark. A few things stuck out to me early. UND looked ready to play on defense.......for 1 possession anyway. After the 3rd or 4th attempt at the ball screen and NDSU doubled the ball and completely turned the screener loose since it was Calcaterra I was expecting UND to either spread the floor and leave the lane open on offense and let our guards take their guys off the dribble or, oh I don't know, maybe use someone who is an offensive threat to score set the initial pick and either pop back for open jumper or finish at the rim(Nash or Tyler)....Also if they are going to guard Nash with Kory Brown why are we giving the ball to Nash 20 feet from the basket instead of posting him up?....these are adjustments that should have been made at the first media timeout....we did open the lane for a few possessions in the second half when the game was pretty much out of hand and I believe we drew fouls on 4 or 5 straight possessions since much like last year they were unable to guard us going to the hole but we eventually strayed back away from that.(start the game that way or even play the last 16 minutes of the first half that way and at the very least NDSU would have had to play more the 6 guys as they would have likely had 5 or 6 guys with 2 or 3 fouls each by halftime. I could go on but it was just a disgusting effort from the start.
  12. No kidding. A horsecollar or a clothesline would be a better description. Was not a cross check.

You can't really believe that? Has Mark Emmert hi jacked your account?

Correct. 11th best team in the weakest P5 conference.

Alabama won a national title(or natty if you prefer) when they were not even SEC champs or even SEC division champs.

I know that people are biased since this is the part of the country most of us live in....but ESPN Stats & Information Conference Power Rankings Overall Ranking Conference AP Rank FPI Rank Overall Rating 1 Big 12 90.3 2 SEC 90.2 3 Pac-12 83.2 4 Big Ten 69.1 5 ACC 69 6 MW 22.3 7 American 21.7 8 C-USA 18.1 9 Sun Belt 10 14.8 10 MAC 14.7 Don't shoot the messenger. The Big 10 and ACC are significantly below the other 3 P5 conferences. If FSU wasn't undefeated and the defending champ I wouldn't put them in the final 4 but can they be left out under those circumstances? It would be fine with me if they were since I wouldn't rank them any higher than 6th. So if the best team from the 5th best conference is in, I am sorry but I have a hard time elevating the team from a conference who was barely 4th with a loss on their schedule at home to the 11th best team from the 5th best conference and not having a team from the top conference statistically .

Yeah. If Ohio State gets in it shows the influence of the Big 10 large media markets and how corrupt the NCAA is. I think this proves they should have started this thing with 8 teams from the get go......Ohio State is good............but there is no getting around losing at home to the 11th best team from the ACC.
  18. I have a friend who is pretty tied into NDSU and I asked him if Bresciani was tone deaf or is he that pretentious and arrogant......he said the latter.

Ha! Back in the 80"s and 90's when Nebraska was favored big you would bet on them to cover on the road and not at home since they could only travel with 60 or 65 guys and they were all better than some of the teams they were playing but at home they had a 100+ dressed.

I believe the Big 10 strongly suggested they re-evaluate their scheduling practices.

Corvallis has some of the worst facilities and is probably the toughest place to recruit too of any P5 Conference. In a poll of the P5 conference football coaches, Riley is rated as the most underrated coach in college football and in a poll of all FBS school coaches he is ranked 2nd. I was underwhelmed but an starting to warm up to the hire. Pelini is gone for being a jackass and for having his team unprepared to play too many times. I think he would still have his job even if he went 10-3 or 9-4 every year if he had a personality and lost to Wisconsin 21-17 or 24-20 and didn' routinely have his unprepared teams get half a hundo hung on them.

They cancelled out of a home and home with North Carolina because they were too tough and wanted out of the TCU game as well.

If Nebraska offered Kill the job, Jerry would be at the airport before Eichorst hung up the phone....3 or 4 times the money in a place that costs 20% less to live. Not to mention the programs. I realize Nebraska isn't what they were in the 90's but the resources and commitment to be are in place, just tougher to get that type of talent to Lincoln these days...but who wouldn't rather coach at a school where winning the Big 10 and competing occasionally for a National title are the goals versus beating 4 powder puffs and then hopefully winning 3 or 4 big 10 games so we can go somewhere warm for bowl season.

I think the main reason Bielema left Wisconsin was due to the size of his assistant coaches salary pool and he wasn't able to get any or keep high profile asssitants.

Bielema is either interested and deflecting or it is his agent trying to get him and his staff a raise at Arkansas.
