I remember having 2 conversations on this back in the day. One with a couple guys who were pretty tight with the Bison program and another was with a UND coach and both had similar take on it. Mostly with having a lot of scholarships tied up in QB's as they got hit a lot and you had to have depth for current roster as well as for future, RB's since you had to have good depth as even on plays you didn't run the ball you usually had more blocking assignments than a traditional RB may have as you were usually helping on linemen or getting to the linebackers and secondary....so you had to play quite a few RB in every game and again have depth in case of injuries, and you needed several Linemen as running option is a pretty active offense for linemen as well and you needed to be 2 deep or at least have a solid 8 for every game and also be prepared for injuries as well and when D2 cut scholarships it made it tough for everyone who had been fully funding football at the D2 level and even tougher on teams who ran "option" type offenses. When Babich came in, one of the first things he did was to gradually move their offense in a different direction.
-
I would agree that the reduction in scholarships at the D2 Level hurt NDSU more than many other teams. One reason has been mentioned here, but I think that while having guys that would be on your depth chart lining up against you could be a factor....I think the bigger factor was that the Veer was an expensive offense to "fund" scholarship wise and it ended up hurting their depth on both sides of the football.

Sorry the whole thing went over your head. I have no illusions that UND will beat ndsu this year.....just pointing out that I was getting points from my arrogant bison buddies for games that at best were tossup games and a few that UND won by 2 and 3 touchdowns. The big joke back then was that the Fargo Dome was going to replace the turf with paper since the bison always looked better on paper.
-
Ha. Well I never let their arrogance get in the way of making a little cash. Never got less than 14 points from my Bison friends in any of these games and went 13-2 against their "spread". 96 November 16, 1991 Fargo, ND North Dakota State 28 35 97 November 14, 1992 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 19 20 98 October 30, 1993 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 22 21 99 October 29, 1994 Fargo, ND North Dakota 34 13 100 November 26, 1994 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 14 7 101 November 4, 1995 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 21 7 102 November 18, 1995 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 10 41 103 November 9, 1996 Fargo, ND North Dakota 33 19 104 October 18, 1997 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 10 31 105 October 17, 1998 Fargo, ND North Dakota 39 25 106 October 2, 1999 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 13 10 107 September 30, 2000 Fargo, ND North Dakota State 13 16 108 October 6, 2001 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 19 7 109 October 12, 2002 Fargo, ND North Dakota 12 6 110 October 18, 2003 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 28 21

Talked to a buddy of mine who is an ex Bison player. He was pretty confident in giving me 45 points.

Pretty common in College Basketball.

OK. That's enough. It is time for an adult to publicly tell these people to "Shut the !@#$ Up".....respectfully of course

by whose definition? Union had 2 of the best defensemen in the country and 1 of the best forward lines in the country. Providence had the guy coming into the year being lauded as the top goalie in the nation and they were preseason #4 or #5. Funny thing is that if the NCAA hadn't messed around with the pairings and locations their is about a 90% chance that Providence would have been 1 and done.

Before Hak, the Flyers were my #1 NHL team and they continue to be! -
To be fair. President Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize before he had actually done anything........at all.

Killing a little time today. I was going to bracket out a 64 team tournament bracket with the name selections but when I went to seed them I found it was too difficult since we have 35-40 of what would be considered a 16 seed. Decided to use a modified step ladder format. Group 1 Arctic Blaze Arctic Force Aurora Bison Slayers Big Green Blaze Blazing Stars Blizzard Blizzard Dogs Bombardiers Charging Nokota Energy Fighting Green Fighting Greens Fighting Green Hawks Fighting Hawks Fighting Sundogs Fire Flame Flames Force Force of the North Global Hawks Green Bombers Green Hawks Green Pride Night Riders Nodak North Force Northern Lights Pride Snow Dogs Snow Leopards Storm Sundog Sundogs Warriors of the North Wings Wooly Mammoth The winner of the steaming pile of !@#$ known as group 1 gets to advance to group 2 with the following Group 2 Group 1 "winner" Flickertails Nodaks Spirit The winner of group 2 moves on to group 3 with the following Group 3 Group 2 winner Aeronauts Aeros Aviators Bombers Drillers Explorers Fliers Riders Roughriders Winner of group 3 moves on to Group 4 Group 4 Group 3 winner Blackhawks Grey Hawks Night Hawks Nighthawks Thunder Hawks Warhawks The winner of Group 4 advances to Group 5 Group 5 Group 4 winner Prairie Hawks The winner of group 5 advances to Group 6 Group 6 Group 5 winner Badlanders Cavalry Warriors The winner of Group 6 advances to group 7 Group 7 Group 6 winner North Stars The winner of Group 7 advances to Group 8 Group 8 Group 7 winner North Dakota Hopefully this format gets rid of most of the ridiculously stupid along the way but if not, then power to the marketing committee!

Don't like any of them.

I was just throwing the numbers out there without comment. I thought you had kind of wondered what they actually were. Obviously there was a huge rush on Sioux merchandise when it became apparent that this would be the last opportunity to do so. I would imagine that if they decide to choose a new name and logo that there would be an initial spike in sales but any long term projection would be tough to make as it would depend on the quality and popularity of the name and logo, having good and fresh designs, and of course the success of our Athletic Teams.......before NDSU's move to D1, UND merchandise actually outsold NDSU merchandise by a pretty substantial amount at FARGO Scheels.
-
From 2008 to 2010, UND made an average of $279,000 each year in royalties from all marks and logos, including the Fighting Sioux. When the controversy came to a head in 2011, royalty payments abruptly jumped to more than $624,000. Royalties remained high at more than $606,000 in 2012 and decreased to about $520,000 in 2013. These revenues are based off 10% of the sales of merchandise.
-
I think someone speculated that and created it out of whole cloth. Faison might have offered a little more money but there is no way he was in a bidding war with the Flyers.

Well, in the summertime it is actually the 3rd Wednesday of Months that have 5 Mondays but only 4 Tuesdays.

Not a chance. Hak's assistants will have loads of NHL or AHL experience. -

Wow. As a UND fan/alum I am stunned and it feels a little like a kick in the gut. As a Flyer fan and Hakstol fan I am excited! -
I have attended this tourney before....well kind of. It was a 4 team tourney at Alico Arena then which is FGCU's home court. Now it is at Germain Arena which is where the ECHL's Everblades play and UND was supposedly slated to play hockey in their College Classic until the NCHC was formed and changed things. FGCU was my brother's adopted team when he lived there. Might have to spend Thanksgiving in Fla.!
