Maybe this is the long con? UND chooses Roughriders for name. They incorporate Roosevelt into the marketing/logo/etc. The Native American's already upset that the NCAA and UND removed Fighting Sioux start protesting at UND events and march on Indianapolis to draw attention to the hypocrisy and racist insensitivity of the NCAA and by force UND. NCAA acquiesces and orders UND to return to Fighting Sioux. Profit!

If you do this and still feel inclined to vote I am fine with that as that way you can protect UND against the truly awful choices on the ballot and at the same time let them know you are not happy with the whole mess of a process that got us here.

I am proud to say I was in student senate when this was brought to the Senate for funding. I am happy to say I was one of the ones who killed this embarrassment to UND as far as funding it.....unfortunately they found another source.

I remember hearing the threat from the NCAA that they would take a full membership vote on the matter if UND won the law suit which they would have had they not settled...I can't find any info or articles that the NCAA ever did "correct" the issue and actually have a full membership vote on this. Not saying they didn't I just don't remember them actually doing it.

I took a week away from any thought on the new name so I could come back with a fresh outlook and open mind as I try to decide which to vote on. I even forced myself to look at these names as if we had never used the Sioux or Fighting Sioux monikers and that we are just starting fresh. Roughriders, North Stars, Nodaks, Sundogs, and Fighting Hawks. The clear thought process doesn't change much....these are still subpar names for The University of North Dakota. Nodaks and Sundogs are like Manchurian Candidate nicknames...planted only for the purposes of making fun and belittling UND down the road. Fighting Hawks which I had been leaning towards prior to my sabbatical is just too Community College or 7th grade travel basketball team name for me. Roughriders is just a nothing, blah name.....and taken by the local high school. North Stars is far and away the best name of this sorry bunch and despite it being the state name of our neighbors to the East, it is what I am now leaning towards as I don't believe that the name chosen will have much staying power and we will be repeating this process in the not too distant future or better yet a name will evolve organically over time which will make sense and end up being adopted......which is what should have been allowed to happen this time.

After eliminating the unbelievably incredibly horrible option, the Sundogs from the mix and discarding the horrible sounding Nodaks from the list I have went back and forth a few times on the names that would be palatable....like an unsalted cracker, but palatable. I don't mind Hawks but it would be better as just Hawks or with a different descriptor such as White, Green, Winter, or Prairie rather than Fighting. Roughriders doesn't do much for me but it isn't a horrible name so I guess that is a positive. North Stars is our neighbor's State nickname but it is far and away the best name left of this sorry bunch. I won't go into how bad this whole process was botched again, but at this point I am either going to abstain from voting or vote for North Stars as it is the best name left. In the long run I don't know that it will matter too much as I don't see the "winner" of this contest having much staying power and will not be a permanent solution and I fully expect UND to have a different moniker within 10 years.

She can stay. Her parents broke the law and need to return.....Assuming they are good respectable people I would assume they would take their 5 year old daughter with them but I guess that is their choice.

Hyrnihk was brought in to be the 3rd goalie and we recruited guys so he would remain in that role.

If Johnson and Tomek are both injured and unable to play....then yeah I guess we would.
