2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
stoneySIOUX replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I think this team will certainly not lack in speed or tenacity. There are too many upperclassmen who know the routine. To be able to get through heavy forecheck, those are two very big factors. Another element to get through heavy forecheck, defense is skill. I think we have a nice influx of skill in our freshmen and I do expect a couple of players to make solid progression. We'll see, but I am certainly hopeful. -

This team will possess the puck just fine, IMO. They may not win A LOT of draws, but they are loaded with big, strong, fast bodies that will dig out pucks. Guys like Schmaltz, Costantini, Judd, Kunz, Portz should all take scoring steps. That's 30+ goals from those guys. Hain was having a fantastic start to his season and along with contributors like Sendo and Jammer, they should AT LEAST score as much as they did last year. With them adding high impact freshmen to a deep and skilled d-corps, I think you may be a little bit underselling the scoring punch. We'll be average to above average in goal scoring. Pair that with a top tier D and solid goaltending, you have a very good to great team. -

I feel the same way. So much good leadership and our defense will be absolute stalwarts. Assuming progression in goal scoring from returners and a bunch of new, highly-skilled forwards, we have something cookin. -

I think Moore is paired with Farmer a lot and has a massive year. -

Updated: Ness and Monty were both at practice, but not playing. Neither had a cast or anything noticable Moore - Frisch Kleven - Farmer Jandric - Johnson Bast - Sidorski -

Definitely don't disagree, but knowing we have two lockdown lines behind them, seeing one of those lines pop isn't a bad idea. -

I know they've been doing maintenance days for a lot of guys, so not sure if they are specifically hurt, or just taking a day off. -

Forward lines today at practice: Costantini - Schmaltz - Blake James - McLaughlin - Gaber Caulfield - Jammer - Sendo Hain - Strinden - Portz Albrecht - Kunz These are 100% different than the lines yesterday, so don't look too hard into these. Fun to see some ideas, though. LOVE the 2nd and third line. Was also told to that apparently Hain tested off the charts with all the Iron Man stuff. Great to hear that. -

FYP As long as they go in, my friend!! -
When I went to UND, I worked on campaigns for fundraising and the question of why was always asked when people decided to not donate money, especially when they had previously donated. I am 100% positive that there is data out there that states why (if they have) they stopped giving or won't give to UND. I have not seen one story correlating the name change to a drop in donations. If there was one, the Herald would be all over it, IMO. So, I don't think any of this silly infighting has led to anything negative specifically hurting UND. So, do I think it's positive that a massive chunk of people hate the logo/name? Absolutely not. But, that happens with every name change everywhere. My guess is there's WAY more people talking smoke than there are that have actually stopped donating. Or, those talking smoke never donated before/aren't alumni and would never have donated. It's all a matter of time. Many will never "get over it" but the overwhelming majority will. We're just in that awkward time period, IMO. Best way to avoid it? Stay off the cancer that is social media lol. (This doesn't count ) Also, keep supporting UND no matter what like most of us do!

I say it's ok for you to say "we" and anyone who disagrees with us is a jerk -
Definitely not arguing that any of that is positive. Frankly, it's just flat out stupid. However, just because this happens, doesn't mean many are stopping their support of UND because of it. Some people like the logo, some don't. Wish we'd all just chill the eff out. With all of that said, I just have yet to see anything truly negative (ie. Dropping donor support, lack of attendance) happen because of this stupid tiff.

Hahahahaha jeebus. -
It's not controversy, man. All sides just need to be less dickheads to each other. It's that simple. We all cheer for UND.
-
No worries, man. I didn't think you did. Civil discussion is cool with me haha. That is a shame that that crap happens. Super stupid. However, I don't see what "damage" it really does to the University.
-
Fair enough. I clarified in my post just before this... it's not the "Hawks Only" group.... it's an anti-Sioux forever group. Basically a group of people who rip on Sioux Forever people and call them dumb/idiots/etc. I've never seen what damage the "Sioux Forever" crowd does or ever has done. I've heard all the logic of why this group thinks the "Sioux Forever" crowd is hurting UND, but can never get anyone to show me a lick of proof about it. In the end, I think long term it'll just fade away and people will just let FH be the name and embrace it. The crowd that shouts at the "Sioux Forever" crowd for being idiots only causes those idiots to dig in deeper.
-
We've gone over this before, man. You're screaming into the wind. NO ONE disagrees with this. This is part of what is causing the divisiveness. Some people think the ones that don't like the name are all clumped into this group that have the fantasy that the Sioux name is coming back. This is NOT the case. The largest part of this crowd consists of people who just don't like the name/love Sioux too much to let it go and choose to avoid buying Hawks gear. The group of "it's the reality, get over it" constantly barrages the "Sioux Forever" crowd. Remember ... the middle is where most lie. I was here back then, too. It's basically the same LOL.
