  1. Horrible shots again when we need a good shot. I beginning to think the coaches are afraid to say anything to Huff when he takes so many horrible shots. Yes he scores alot and is one of our best players but 4-5 shots a night are out of control and when you lose games by 3 points those possessions are critical. Coach keeps talking after every game how we basically lose control and dont take good shots but the same player does it every game. They are starting to not play as a team and standing and watching one player take so many shots and playing as individuals. That is why they are losing close games. Im starting to blame the coaching at this point. Hate being negative but they need to be more balanced with there shots. Huff has made 2 of his last 21 threes also. Great game by Brekke by the way. They still have alot of season to play but changes definately need to be made. I believe we are better than we are playing. Maybe when Goodman comes back it will happen and give us a sold backup at the 3 position.
  2. Thats a comparison that will spin your head around. Next year as it stands we will have 5 seniors, 5 juniors and 2 sophomores and 1 red shirt freshman on full scholarships. All 5 seniors play minimal minutes and make little contribution, the 5 juniors to be play most of the minutes and all have contributed into one of the finest classes UND has ever had with 4 starting each of the last 2 years. The 2 sophomores and 1 red shirt freshman has yet been determined what kind of impact they may have. So far it hasnt been much. Really dont see them getting alot of playing time with the class in front of them until their senior years. It will be interesting what happens to say the least.
  3. Whatever the coaches decide to do will be difficult. The fact remains is that we need to replace Mitchell and need some bigs. It doesn't appear its going to happen with this current red shirt junior class next year. They have already been given 4 full years of free tuition. Possibly Goodman can replace Mitchell if healthy. He is a good rebounder and from what I understand was playing very well prior to his injury. So we need at least one big and possibly a back up for Mitchell for next year. Thats 2 scholarships we do not have availble to offer currently. Some tough decisions, but to be competitive in the Big Sky next year these decisions will need to be made.
  4. Based on what you need and the players performance I would say they are essentially identical. In our case we have 5 players that will be 5th year seniors next year and basically have done nothing except Goodman and Allard the past 2 years. Goodman has not done much due to injuries but once healthy he will be a big contributer. We need a big man to back up Brekke in the worst way and Archer and Wilmer have scored less than a 100 pts comibined in this being their 3rd year. Again both have had alot of injuries. In our case if scholarships are going to be pulled it appears it would come from this class. With that being said and to answer your question I would pull a younger player just as quick if he is not performing. I dont see that with us however.
  5. Ditto that. Without another big man or two and allowing certain players to take the shots they are taking then we may be in BIG trouble in the coming year. We have no Mitchell next year and we have no back up big man at all and no new players coming in UNLESS scholarships are cut..
  6. Agree with the forcing shots. In all our losses we hang tough then several players take horrible shots for 3-4 possessions in a row and the other team goes on about an 8 point run and puts a gap on us. The coaches seem to allow this every game. The coaches need to tighten up these players and sit them when it happens. After one year and 7 games this continues to happen and I wonder when its going to be corrected. Agree they are still young but the clock is ticking on correcting this.
  7. We play descent for alot of the game and then we start taking horrible shots and forcing shots and nobody(coaches) do anything about it. Every possession is critical and when someone gets out of control game after game something needs to be done. We have 5 players on the floor at a time and a player needs to realize that. Out rebounded bad again and this will continue if we dont find someone to back up Brekke before we enter the Big Sky next year.
  8. Thats a tough one. I would love to beat NDSU but the bigger picture is to win the GWC. So, I would rather win the GWC but hopeful that we do both. Go Sioux
  9. Huff is doing a great job rebounding this year and his assists are way up from last year also. Webb amazes me at the amount of rebounds he gets every game from the point guard position. Its such an advantage cause once Webb gets a rebound he is gone towards the other end. Why is it the womens games attract more fans than the guys. I just noticed the women drew over 2000 for the game against a 1-4 Drake team last night and we only drew 1700 against Montana. Seems the case everygame.
  10. siouxcrew11 I think it would be your best interest not to attend anymore games. Every post on this thread you have bashed basically every player on this team except Anderson. You praised him on every post and attacked Huff, Webb, Schuler and the bigs for not rebounding. Obviously these players are not ever going to meet your expectations so why dont you spare yourself the headaches and stay away. These are all very talented players and are bringing excitement back to Sioux basketball.
  11. You are correct . 495 of those points came their freshman year. Since this sophomore class arrived the current junior class has only scored 240 points between the 5 of them. Granted alot of injuries have followed them.
  12. If I remember correctly in an early interview with Jones he stated that Gentry and Benton would red shirt and that Antwi would play immediately. Maybe things changed for Gentry when Goodman got injured again right before season started not knowing if Goodman would be back. I'd have to think once Goodman comes back he will have a positive impact on our scoring and Gentry would be behind him.
  13. I took it one step more. Not counting last nights game the 5 sophomores have scored 1793 points and have had 87 double digit scoring nights in just over one year. The 5 juniors have scored 735 points with 15 double digit scoring nights in just over 2 years. The current freshman class has really done nothing so far and I have the same concerns as UND fan posted above. Really believe with the small amount of playing time Gentry and Antwi are getting maybe they should have red-shirted, especially when Goodman comes back. Goodman and Allard are the only ones making an impact for us when healthy.
  14. Hard for Schuler to shoot more when he doesn't get that many touches. Between Huff and Mitchell they took 28 of our 48 shots and that left only 20 for the other 8 players that were in the game. I'm sure this has been the case for most of our games. On the free throw side outside Huff we only missed 1 free throw. As mentioned earlier scoring in the post has been horrible. We really need a solid backup for Brekke and nobody has stepped up to the plate. We have alot of scholarships in this junior class and someone needs to prove they can play after 4 years in the program. ( 1 red-shirt year).
  15. Excellent points. The team needs to show up for more than 30 minutes as was the case with Western Illinois when they only played the last 26 minutes. In those last 26 minutes they were very good. Huff will be fine as all players have bad games throughout the year and hopefully during those bad games we have other players to pick up the slack. I did enjoy the fact that even though Huff had a bad shooting night he had a career high in assists. As he develops in this area we are going to be more dangerous cause teams will not collapse on him when he penetrates with 3-4 guys cause once they realize he will make that pass they will stay with their man and open the lanes more for Huff. Working the ball from the inside to the outside is so effective. Lets get on a roll starting with tonight against Jamestown.
  16. Agree Western Illinois was a bad loss but in college basketball anything is possible and more so when they take the 15th rank team down to the wire on the road they are a dangerous team. Whether they can do that night in and night out is a different story but on 2 occassions so far this year they played well.
  17. I also noticed that Western Illinois only played 6-7 players and also noticed we had some lineups to where we only had 2 real scoring threats on the floor at the same time. We are currently very solid going 6 deep from a scoring stand point and beyond that is still a big question mark. I think as the year progresses we will only go 7 deep for the most part. Also Western moved the ball very efficient and very quick on offense. I was very impressed with their motion. Go Sioux
  18. It was no doubt a switching man to man. It was not a zone. We shot 41.7% from 3 for the game and any team would take that any game of the week. Our shots from three were not the issue. Turnovers and poor possessions were the issue. This team held the 15th ranked team in the nation to 58 points. I'd say they gave Michigan more fits than us and that is a good sign for us. There defense was one of the best I've seen in years come into Grand Forks. We get another crack at them in a few weeks which I am looking forward to.
  19. Shots just weren't falling for Huff. Some good looks and then several bad shots. He did however have a career high in assists and thought he made some very nice moves down the middle and when he was double/triple teamed he found the open man for the shot instead of forcing a shot. He creates so much havic for the defense when he penetrates and this game he found the open man on several occasions which is very promising. He is like any other shooter there will be good shooting games and some bad ones also unfortuneatly.
  20. I'd think we would be a favorite in everyone of the above games except the SDSU games. But that doesn't always mean a victory when it comes to basketball. Several areas need to be cleaned up. Go Sioux
  21. From what I understand he is shooting in practice so I'm not sure if he is shooting what is holding him back at this point. I guess time will tell.
  22. Western Illinois did not play a zone but a tight switching defense that gave us fits the first 12 minutes of the game. Webb and Schuler kept us in the game the first half as the starters struggled. Mitchell came out strong in the second half and the Sioux held a couple short leads. We continue to take horrible shots by the same players and each time it leads to easy buckets by the opposition. We are still growing but the same mistakes continue to happen. Its up to the coaches to discipline and make some of the players realize the importance of every possession. We need to work on good open shots and our defense breaks down alot with penetrating guards. Its early but this is a game we should have won. Go Sioux
  23. Sounds like we need to find a way to speed things up. Saw enough of a team running the shot clock down to 0 several years ago when UND did the same thing. Boring. Thanks for the info fargobison.
  24. Hopefully another big crowd. Hard to believe the attendance was only 1700+ against Montana cause it seemed to me the biggest crowd we've had at the Betty for several years but it was supposedly the same as other games. Looks as if Western Illinois plays slow down due to only low 40 shot attempts by both them and Michigan. Thats not many shot attempts for both teams. If the Sioux get a quick and big lead they will not be able to slow it down. Go Sioux
