  1. Can someone please tell me why Huff takes so many threes? He made one of 4 but that was a bank and just air balled another one. These players must understand what they can do and what they cant. Please take the shots they are good at. This is why teams go on 11 and 12 point runs. Lets get it together boys. Go Sioux
  2. Yes, it will be a tough game. Why, because its on the road and we have not proven we can win on the road yet. I believe we should win this game and post our first road win but it wont be easy. I just hope we remember how we played our last game and play the exact same way. Go sioux
  3. Last year the UND vs NDSU drew 10,700 fans to the fargo dome. I realize that was a saturday game but dont see why we should not attract as many fans for this huge game. It should be a tightly contested game from start to finish. It was a huge build up prior to the game and I believe subway or somebody purchased nearly 2000 tickets and gave them away for a sell out. Winning does generally bring more fans but in our case we have a quality team these last 2 years and we have been winning but I haven't seen the attendance go up at all with much better opponents coming into the Betty also. Go Sioux
  4. Have not run the princeton for 2 years. That changed with the 5 sophomores.
  5. Great observations and post. Attendence still upsets me. I have talked to so many people in this city about basketball and they say what. Its like they dont even know UND plays basketball, its all about hockey. What a shame they are missing out on some very good young players. There loss.
  6. What the hell was I thinking when I made this comment several days ago. I am so glad I was wrong. Everyone played well tonight and looked like a Team tonight. Way to go Sioux. Mitchell incredible and Allard, Schuler played great off the bench. Webb iced it down the stretch with layups and Huff had a great stretch of dunks and great passes. Anderson solid like normal. Everyone just played so well. Cant say enough good things about this game. I am excited. Now lets get a road win Sunday. Go Sioux
  7. Wilmer does need to give us quality minutes but after 3+ years in the program I'm beginning to doubt this is going to happen. It just seems he doesnt get it, rebounds bounce off of him and he doesnt get good position at all for his size. If this team doesn't get a big to help Brekke out for next year we will have more bad posts than good in the Big Sky. There are times I get excited about Allards play and here lately he hasn't done anything to speak of. He definately brings energy and I enjoy watching him but again after 3+ years the results aren't there. Defense, rebounding and most of all shot selection will determine this teams fate the rest of the year. I only hope the coaches make a point to each and every player when it comes to this.
  8. Agree, the effort needs to be there. If we improve on our defense, rebounding and shot selection and still get beat thats fine with me. It would be a step moving in the right direction. We have very good talent but right now that young talent is not making strides forward and thats what must happen. It takes more than just athleticsm and talent to win in D1 basketball. The best thing for us right now is playing SDSU again after the thumping by them and see what improvements we make. Hopefully that last game truly made them aware of what it takes and woke them up. Go Sioux
  9. Honestly, yes we will improve but don't think we will win. SDSU is a much better TEAM than us but in the world of basketball anything can happen on a given night. We can be red hot like they were the last game and they can be ice cold. However, it comes down to defense and right now our defense is very bad. I'm sure the boys are working their butts off in practice at the scrutiny of the coaches this week. Just hope the fans come out for this one. SDSU had over 4000 fans for the last game. It should be interesting to see how the players respond and how patient the coaches are with the way some of the players are playing defense and their shot selection. Go Sioux
  10. I'm sure there are alot of frustrated players, frustrated fans and frustrated coaches at this point. After last year its not the start everyone wanted and emotions are flowing freely. There is lots of time but as mentioned many times changes have to be made from everyones perspective. I'm sure there are many issues that need resolved. Go Sioux
  11. Its probably going to be a 15 win season. Tougher schedule this year I believe. Could be a little better if some adjustments are made by the coaches and players. I don't see 19 wins like last year.
  12. This Thursday at home will show us what character we have. We are 4-5 and honestly until last nights game could have won them all. We were in every game and if not for poor discipline we could have won all of them. Last night I am writing off as hopefully our worst performance of the year against a very good team. SDSU has lost only to Minnesota, Georgia and Nebraska and they were in every one of those games. They are no doubt way ahead of us in every phase but not 40 points. We definately took a turn backwards last night and hopefully our players have very short memories. Its got to start with defense and shot selection. Find the guys who are willing to play defense and make the extra pass for the wide open shot. Each player has to understand what is a good shot for them. For example, Huff has taken the 2nd most threes and he is the worst percentage three point shooter we have. Not picking on him just an easy analysis. Allard also should never shoot a three. Each player must know his strength and weakness. Its gut check time boys. We are not going to beat SDSU this Thursday but we can put up a fight. It starts then.
  13. We should watch this game tape and concentrate only on what SDSU does. They play as a TEAM and constantly makes the extra pass for the WIDE open shot. They were not as athletic as us nor as big but look what they did to us. Everyone keeps talking about we need more athletic players but what we need is for our players to play as one and find the open man and not just worry about themselves. Its beginning to come down to discipline and coaching. This was just way too ugly.
  14. Our defense is horrible right now. We need Moody.
  15. If he red shirts then it makes better sense. He could learn a lot from this sophomore class and then he has 3 years. Still need BIGS. We need more than Brekke.
  16. He would be behind the above for 2 years. Webb, Anderson and Schuler are sophomores and I thought Arvidson is a senior this year. Why not find a BIG that will walk on.
  17. Agree 100%. Getting a local kid from a small time high school program that is willing to walk on is not improving this team. Yea he may be better than a few bench players we have but he is playing against no competition in this area and what does that do for us the next 2 years in the Big Sky. He would be behind Webb, Anderson, Schuler and Antwi. We need players that are a lot better than what we have to build this program. I am excited about everything this sophomore class had done but they need help so with this class we can compete and possibly win the Big Sky next year and in their senior year. We have a great young nucleus but in our losses it proves we need a big and some better control with our shots.
  18. Why would we need another 6'1" guard on the roster? We need BIGS to compete in the Big Sky for the next couple of years. Dont know this kid but if he was D1 talent I would think a scholarship would be out there for him somewhere. Why walk on to a guard dominant team.
  19. What position and how big?
  20. Its too spread the offense so we can penetrate with our point guard. Its better than what we had 2 years ago (princeton) but would like to see us not standing in the corners as much. Its suppose to be a motion offense but most of the time only 1-2 guys are in motion.
  21. See, we can get along. Schuler is not as slow as everyone thinks. He does not have the quickness of Huff or Anderson for sure but he is very smart and if you notice he passes up shots for a more open player. Its hard to fault him on that but he does need to shoot more. Another problem is he does not get alot of touches. The offense stands him in the corner and I guess when penetration is made they hope his man collapses and he is open for a dish. Most of the time his man does not collapse and when his man does the dish is generally not made. Dont think you will get 5 points from Haugen cause he does not play. Wilmer would definately like to see 5 points from him. Antwi still looks alittle lost to me. Dont seem like he's played alot of half court offense but probably just run and gun in Canada. His shooting numbers are not good also. Last year our bench was Anderson, Benter, Clausen and this year its basically Schuler as far as points go. We really do need Goodman in the worst way to backup Huff and Mitchell. I believe he would be strong at either the 3 or 4 for scoring and rebounding.
  22. Agree, Huff needs to stay aggressive but just alittle smarter once he is double teamed. I think Anderson and Schuler are the ones that need more shots. They both take very good shots and rarely ever force a shot that is not wide open. Both seem to look for the wide open man also. I think Allard just needs to play hard defense and rebound. Allards career shooting percentages are not good at all. In fact they are bad from every perspective so I dont think he needs to shoot more. We only have 6 players that have proven they can score and that is Mitchell and the 5 sophomores. Outside that there is basically nothing. Our bench points are basically Schulers. I realize we are still young but that term will be getting old soon and they need to start showing improvement in shot selection and defense. The next month is going to be brutal and I'm not sure we are going to be favored in many of our next 7-9 games. To me its all about getting ready for next year.
  23. Agree that our defense is not what it needs to be. I dont think our defense would be this suspect if we still had Moody on the bench. He was the catalyst for our defense and I dont see the same defensive intensity as last year. I think another major factor for some of the play is the travel schedule. They flew to Idaho on Friday and then flew back on Sunday. Was back one day and then flew out to Kansas City. They flew back from Kansas today and now have to bus to South Dakota on Friday to play on Saturday. That will flat wear anybody down. Such a brutal road stretch.
  24. Dont believe I said he played horrible, he just took some horrible shots. Agree that some of his stats are up, especially assits to turnovers, which I value very highly. This could even be better with alittle more maturity. Again, Huff is very valuable part of this team. Two of their last 3 games they lost by 3 and that is only one possession. Possessions are so critical at this level and they must understand that.
  25. Was wondering how long it would take you to protect your boy. Read all my posts. I have said many times what a good player Huff is and is probably one of the best athletes this school has had for many many years. I criticize him on his shot selection cause it has continued now for over a year. He is very aggressive which I like but he has to understand when he penetrates and 2-3 guys collapse on him we have several good shooters wide open. Others do take an occassional bad shot but not 4-6 a game. Huff needs to understand what are good shots for him and ones which are bad. I truly hope he learns and understands that this team has to play as one and not him trying to take over a game during crunch time and forcing bad situations with his shots. I enjoy watching Huff play but also get very upset watching all the bad shots when others are wide open. This team has the talent now its up to them and the coaches to figure out how to make the chemistry work. I dont believe this team has found the chemistry yet.
