Free throw shooting again was horrible. In all the games I have seen I have never seen anybody shoot a practice free throw in the one hour that they warm up. Maybe we should have a set where each player shoots a few free throws in our warm up process. It cant hurt.

Whats the record for turnovers in a game? We have 17 or 18 at half.
-
I will be the first to say. Huff was great tonight. I heard his stroke was so much better. I've thought for quite some time he did not have a good rotation in his game shot versus his practice shot. Tonight the two came together which we had to have. Definately hope it continues. We had to have this game and he came thru big time. Great win. Go sioux

Kelley says UND to resume use of Fighting Sioux nickname
sioux2013 replied to cowboys5xsbs's topic in UND Nickname
This is definately not good for the future of UND athletics. What a shame when we are an independant playing small time schedules with no interest for the fans. Might as well go NAIA. -
Sportsmatic, do you seriously believe Huff should be shooting three's at this point? He has missed 17 in a row and to be honest with you they are not even close to going in. In fact I cant remember the last time he has made a jumper. His shot is definately off and everytime he shoots a three he is hurting this team with a lost possession. Every game they are within a possession or two within the last couple of mintes and if there weren't so many bad shots during the first 38 minutes we could easily be the team winning and not losing. I will say it again Huff is the most talented player on this team and creates the most problems for any team we play trying to defend him. I am so critical of him because he is the best talent this school has had in many years and he is by far the one player that can change the outcome of any game in our favor if he just played smarter and saw the floor better. He should understand his shot from the outside is not working and he needs to use his athletism to penetrate and if the shot is not there dish to a wide open player who can make the 3 or open jumper. Contrary to what you think I do enjoy watching him play but he needs to start playing smarter and help this team win more games with better overall play. Everyone on this team needs to improve in areas they are weak, its just Huff is and will be for the next several years the biggest key to this team because of his ability.

Once again very entertaining to read your thoughts. I definately agree about the long road trips and the effect they will eventually have on you. Also agree, teams we played that were not suppose to be very good are turning out to be very solid ( Western Illinois, UMKC, Idaho State etc). The one thing I slightly disagree on is who should be shooting what type of shot. If a player is shooting below 20% from 3 and shoots alot of them I would have to say at this point in the seaon that is not his shot and should not be taking so many of them. Every player on this team has certain strenghts in their game and thats what they should concentrate on and those are the shots they should be taking to help us win. For example, Brekke knows he cannot shoot outside 5' and he stay within this. Allard has stopped taking three's even when he is open cause he just cant make them over his entire career. You mention Mitchell shooting only 35% from three but to be honest with you anything over 33% is acceptable cause its the equivalent in points to shooting 50% from within the arc. So I am perfectly happy with 35% out of Mitchell or any other player. Shooters like Anderson will have bad shooting nights but if you have somebody that is conistantly bad almost every game from a certain distance they need to understand this and go to their strengh. It does not help the team if you are shooting below 20% from 3 and keep shooting the 2nd most 3's on the team. Once again a player and coach must understand each players strength and utlilize this. I'm sure you have to be in agreement with this. I go to or watch everygame and this team without a doubt has very solid talent and each one brings something different to the table which should make us very difficult to guard. Huff brings probably the most athletic abilty this school has had for years, Brekke brings a high percentage shooter in the paint that takes excellent shots, Anderson is quick with unbelievable jumping abilty and a great shot, Webb controls the floor and penetrates as good as any guard and Mitchell is a shot blocking machine that can shoot over any defender at 6'8 , Schuler is the best pure shooter we have and can come off screens with the ability to make those 15' jumpers that we dont utilize enough, Allard plays extemely hard and gives 100% every game. Thats our top 7 players and each one is different and can hurt the opponent if we play and take the shots that they are good at. Problem is we dont do this right now. I'm getting as long as greenteam, sorry.

Have to agree a lot with your observation. Little discipline, individual play and lack of size. We can't beat a team that plays unselfish because we don't play as a team in most games. We have had scholarships to get size but continue to get guards. Now we go into the Big Sky with no scholarships available to get size. Its no doubt a big uphill climb at this point. We do have talent however its just how we use it and control it.

Like your optimism but lets win a road game first.
-
You got that right. Time to mix things up on the road. Players and COACHES need to know who should shoot what shot. Not going to mention any names but our worst three point shooter has missed his last 18 3's but still shoots them and they aren't even close. Its the players and the coaches faults for taking shots they cannot make on a consistant basis. Defense was not as good tonight. Next year we need to schedule all non league games at HOME sweet HOME. How many times does a team make a shot on us when the clock is winding down to 0 and they throw up a 3 and it goes in. Unbelievable. Oh well only 4 more road games and we are back home. Go Sioux
-
Ouch, that is bad. Its got to be alot more than just the coach. I'm sure they prepare for their opponent exactly the same whether it's at home or on the road. They generally win at home and as we all know lose on the road. Doesn't make sense. Maybe each player should take something from their house or apartment with them on the road and pretend they are at home, like a teddy bear or something. Whatever it is or whatever they are doing it needs to change. Like you said, next year and beyound will be tougher. Greenteam, always like to read your ideas, whats your thoughts about our troubles on the road or causes for all the losses? Go Sioux

Given the choice of the conference regular season or the conference tournament I would rather us win the conference tournament so we can move on and play in the CIT. Prior to now I was definately wanting both but its not looking so good for the regular season crown. Saturdays game is going to be even tougher than last nights since it appears Texas Pan American is a better team than Houston Baptist. At least we can watch this game on the webcast. I dont think we can do worse but who knows with this team when it comes to road games. Lets go Sioux and start a road winning streak.
-
Agree, 18 turnovers by our starters is not going to win many or any games. As early as the league play is this one may have done us in. We are now 2 games behind Utah Valley with only 6 games to go. Dont see anyone beating Utah Valley except us at home. Very disappointing loss. Huff and Allard played well offensively while Anderson, Mitchell and Schuler struggled . Webb has got to start cutting down on his turnovers and play smarter with the ball. The regular season is in trouble but we have time to straighten things out for the league tournament.
-
It does not appear there is a webcast of tonights game. Does anyone know if there is one somewhere somehow? Houston Baptist appears to be in the stone ages.

You are a work of art. Never ever said I hate Huff. Always said he is the most athletic and has the most promise of anyone on this team. I criticize him for his selfish play game after game. You obviously do not understand how important every possession in a game is. And I have said many times once he realizes he is not the team this team will win more games. Let me ask you something. Do you think your boy should be taking 3's when he cant shoot outside 5'? Thats a lost possession 80+ percent of the time when he shoots a 3. Thats what I look at. Huff should be driving and penetrating and if the lane is not open then I bet you at least 2 guys are open somewhere. This team has come so far TOGETHER on the defensive side this year now they need to tighten things up on the offensive side and we may not lose another game. I believe in moving the ball inside and out and working the ball until we find an open shot. I have said this all year and I am not about to change. You believe in your boy shooting the ball 20 times a game and scoring 15 points. I have said he does not need to shoot the ball 20 times in order to score 15 points, just play smarter with his shots and he will still get his 15 points. We play the best when 4-5 guys take 9-10 shots each. You dont understand this though.
-
You bring up a good point on Schuler. Does anyone know why this kid stands in the corner so much without moving. Im sure he's doing this because that is what he is told. Obviously the guards are suppose to penetrate and when his man helps a dish is suppose to go his way. What I have noticed is Schuler's man does not leave him at all. Last game they were even face guarding him so he could not touch the ball. A couple of games he was moving alot and coming off screens and scoring. Last game he was back to standing in his corner. Doesn't make sense to me. He is our best pure shooter and needs touches and shots to get into a flow. Just curious if anyone knows.

Sportsmatic welcome back. Was wondering what happened to you in the last week. I agree with you on the part that he has been playing better on defense but he has not been amazing on offense lately. He is 16-47 from the floor in the last 4 games which is only 34% and is 2 of 13 from three which is only 15% and I'm sure his free throw percentage is only about 50%. Im sorry but that is not amazing. You need to chill on this forum here lately. Everyone see's things in a different way and you are so protective of your boy its rediculous. You attached Anderson and upset his family earlier and you said some very inappropriate things to me about Anderson. Its a fact your boy takes way too many bad shots every game. For this team to go further he needs to understand this as well as other players. I was behind the bench in the last game and at one time Jones was trying so desperately to call a timeout when Huff was shooting 3 consective times under the basket with the entire team on him. The timeout was not granted and every shot was missed. When he is under control we play very well. I only hope it happens. At that point I will have to fined something else to talk about, huh.

Its now time to start winning on the road. With a 0-9 road record its imperative if we want to contend for the Great West regular season crown we must win virtually every league road game. With Utah Valley already one game up on us I dont believe we can afford to lose anymore games with only 7 league games remaining. The 2 games this week are a must win situation being they are at the bottom of the league standings. Should be interesting and hopefully our road funk does not continue.
-
No doubt you have to have a balance of 3's and 2's. I also believe every game is different. You have to take whatever the defense gives you in a given night. Some nights our opponent packs it in and we shoot a lot of threes and hopefully the right guys for us are shooting the threes and making them. Other nights the inside game will be our strength. It seems we generally start strong on the inside with Brekke and then move it out as the game progresses. So, I dont think you can put a number on how many 3's our team should shoot. However, if we get a shooter hot we need to feed him.
-
Another night of very good defense. We now have 6 players playing almost all of the minutes and collectively they are communicating better and better on their defense. I am liking what I am seeing from the defensive side. Still have a lot of work to do on offense. The inside is a black hole with no kick outs. I dont know how many times shots were taken on the inside with 2-3 guys on them with the wings wide open again. I beginning to think on offense the inside players are not coached to look out if they are double teamed. Way too many turnovers tonight. But all in all we are looking better. Now its time to take it to the road and get some wins. Great weekend for all Sioux sports with the womens basketball, mens hockey and mens basketball. Go Sioux

Wonder how many will return for next year from this red shirt junior class. Always liked Goodman and wonder what he could have done for UND. He could be done with his shoulder injuries. Unfortunate...
-
I was also very concerned about getting blown out after the first 10 minutes. However, the last 30 minutes they played very good ball. I am really impressed with how they are coming along with their defense. Every time NJIT tried to penetrate it seemed like there were white jersey's everywhere. We had every starter in double digits and Schuler had 9 off the bench. Thats the kind of balance that will win many games. Congrats to Mitchell for career point number 1000. This team is defenately moving in the right direction. Go Sioux

Anybody hear anything about the status of Goodman? Is he done for the year or will he be back?
-
Turnovers and some bad shots cost us this game. Possession, possession, possession. I thought we lost this one the same way we have lost 4-5 road games this year. Maybe the long trip out there today had some impact late. Lets regroup and win 2 this next week at home. Go Sioux

Schuler bringing them back. Go Sioux

Not playing TEAM ball at all. Out of control again by some players.
