  1. Dont know if they have lost any chemistry from last year cause I dont think they had alot of chemistry last year either. They are playing the exact same way as last year and that is what puzzles me the most. Nobody is doing anything different, there are still guys taking terrible shots and shots they should not be taking. The coaches are allowing the same things game after game. They are not improving in the areas that need improved on. That is what is most discouraging. They have enough talent to do so much better. Is it coaching or do some of these players just not understand how to play TEAM basketball. I watch these good teams and they play fundamental basketball with good ball movement and a solid inside out game. We DO NOT have an inside out game at all and that makes it so easy to guard our bigs. It goes down low and all you have to do is collapse on them. Our guards plus Huff penetrate very well and never kick it outside but throw up some horrible shots. Players just stand on offense with little or no movement. Obviously this is what they are suppose to do cause they do it every game. We have had 2 very good wins this year and that is it. Until we learn to play as a team we will continue to be so so with some good games but mostly poor games. I see players getting frustrated with how we are playing.
  2. We can finally be friends. I knew in the long run we could work things out. Go Sioux
  3. Greenteam, I enjoy reading your posts and you are generally right on with your comments. I do think that as this season continues into conference play that the minutes some of our un-productive subs are playing can change the result of the game. Haugen has been playing 5 minutes generally in the first half and none in the second. They tend to bring Antwi in for a couple of minutes in the second half and the same with Gentry. These 3 in particular have not produced scoring or anywhere else and in a tightly contested game that is around 10 minutes a game we have players in that are not contributing at all. I would rather have Goodman, Allard or Schuler fill these 10 minutes is all I am saying. Yes all three are getting descent minutes but its time to play our best all the minutes possible. Huff, Anderson, Webb will get their 30 minutes but the reseve minutes should be narrowed down to a few players. One possession will make a difference in alot of the upcoming games. We've already lost several games by one possession this year that we should have won.
  4. I believe its time to play only 8-9 players. We keep playing a few guys 4-5 minutes for what reason. We need the key players more minutes so they can be more in the flow. Playing somebody 4 minutes and keeping a player that can contribute more on the bench makes no sense at this point in the season. We have some proven bench players in Allard, Schuler, Goodman that need more minutes and keep Archer, Antwi,Gentry and Haugen out. There 4-5 minutes need to go to the first 3 mentioned. Antwi and Gentry should have been red shirted. Allard, Schuler and Goodman can do alot more good things for an additional 4-5 mintues a game than Archer, Antwi , Gentry and Haugen. The season is half over and changes need to be made to improve. Go Sioux
  5. Not playing TEAM ball at all. Only 10 assists and Mitchell had 4 against a Mayville team and only Mitchell had more than 1 assist. That is not good at all. Our guards did not dish at all. We had 12 turnovers with Huff having 4 of them. I'm really beginning to think not many of these guys really know how to play as a team and with that in mind we are going to have a rough last part of the season. I've tried to be very positive for a long time but the coaches are not improving these players at all. Too many bad shots and not finding the open guys and to many good shooters just standing and not moving. Nothing has changed at all in our players as far as improvement in their games. They continue to make the same mistakes game after game.
  6. UND's bench outscored Kansas bench 20-9. Leading the way for our bench was Schuler (7) and Allard (7). It amazing a team like Kansas does not have the talent to play 8-9 deep. Like I posted earlier 5 guys played 29+ minutes and no one else in double digit minutes.
  7. Have you ever seen them in person? They are really not that bad.
  8. No doubt you are correct that this offense is so much better than the princeton 2 years ago. I even hate to think about that offense. The one thing i disagree on this offense is 2 guys standing in the corner too much. I would like to see the bigs screen these 2 guys and have them come off the screens for a 10-15 foot pull up. The only true screens are 30 foot from the basket. Why not set the wings in motion and come off a screen somewhere in the middle for pull ups. It is a motion offense but most of the time only 3 are in motion. It can be adjusted to get just alittle more movement. I agree with you that Schuler is probably the best at the mid range pull up. He needs to do this more cause it is always there. UNDsportsmatic, At this point in the season Anderson if by far our best player. He takes great shots, doesnt force anything, and his percentages are off the charts. If he took as many shots as Huff he would be averaging 20+ points/game. Huff is by far our most athletic player but makes alot of poor decisions. If he ever learns what a good shot is for him and a bad shot he will be our best player. He doesnt understand this yet. I hope he does cause he is such a threat and we need him.
  9. I do agree with you on this one. Right now the best of the 3 you mentioned is Anderson. He is not forcing anything and taking very good shots. He has improved so much over last year. Huff and Webb still have alot of improving to do but have the potential to be very good in the Big Sky. They both should shoot less from the outside and penetrate and if the lane is not open dish. My main concern in the Big Sky for the next 2 years with this sophomore class will be the loss of MItchell. We have nobody at this point that will even come close to replacing him and no scholarships available. That is a huge hole and if we dont find somebody quick we will be alot worse in the final 2 years for this class which will be a shame.
  10. Have to disagree with you on our guards dont shoot very well. Anderson is probably one of the best shooting guards in the country. He is shooting over 50% from three and over 50 percent from the floor. Schuler is shooting over 40% from three also which is excellent. Goodman is also showing a very nice stroke in his 2 games so far. The problem is we dont get these guys enough shots. I watch game after game and we never have an inside out game to the wide open shooters. We also never look opposite to the wide open guy. This is basic basketball 101 which these players dont understand. I do agree this offense needs adjustments because having guys like Anderson, Schuler and Goodman standing in the corners for most of the sets is not very good. I guess its suppose to be penetrate and dish but most of the time its penetrate and throw up a bad shot and hardly ever a dish. We do have some good shooters just too many guys missing the open shooter and taking horrible shots. Also, we do need some more bigs in the worst way possible. Tough decisions are to be made in a couple of months.
  11. 100% RIGHT ON. I'm glad someone knows the entire story. I have talked to the AD in the past several weeks and they are concerned. No league and trying to operate as an independent will destroy the athletic program. BELIEVE IT.
  12. Agree, Wilmer, Archer and Mathison have only scored maybe 100 pts combined in their 3 year career. Brekke is the only post player that can score and that usually happens when he goes against someone his size. So with that being said we only have Webb, Anderson, Huff, Schuler, and Mitchell that can score on a consistant basis. In my opinion those are all guards so we need the guards to shoot. No other real option.
  13. You are exactly right. Signing these petitions and trying to keep the name will ultimately destroy UND athletics. Dont understand why people wont let the name go. THE NCAA does not care about anything other than what they say. You can vote 100 different laws into effect that keeps the name and the NCAA and the Big Sky does not care. Anyone signing these petitions are potentially destroying UND athletics and if you dont believe it then just sign the petitions and in 2-3 years you will believe it. And if that happens and UND sports are gone I only hope hockey goes down also. I will say again the NCAA does not give a s*it. It seems most dont really care about UND athletics as a whole. You have to have all the sports or none.
  14. Kansas had 5 players play 29+ minutes and no one else on the team played double digit minutes. Thought that was very strange and agree they must not have much of a bench. Maybe the refs realized this and hardly ever called a foul against them. It was obvious Self was not happy calling several timeouts late when we cut into their lead. Its obvious he wanted a 40+ point win that he did not get. The sioux remained poised after the first several minutes and I was also impressed with their gutty performance. Now they must learn from this game and continue to improve on what they did and they will be fine. Go Sioux
  15. I thought our guys played a very good game against one of the best teams in the country in an unbelievable atmosphere and on espn. They played under control and limited bad shots this game. I thought it was probably one of there better road games as far as staying under control and taking good shots. We still had players taking shots they should not be taking but I was very pleased with the effort. Go Sioux
  16. Game time near. All I care about today is we make improvements in our game. We have alot to improve on and today would be a good start to show our potential on national TV. Lets take good shots and play as a team. We will be at full strength with the additional of Goodman. Go Sioux
  17. How is it possible the Big Sky can rescind its offer to UND? I thought everything was in place and the move was to be made beginning next year. I am sure scheduling has already been made for sports such as football. This change of mind would leave UND totally screwed for all sports except of course hockey.
  18. I heard. He also said he wished they were not wearing a North Dakota jersey. Said he wished they had another name on their jerseys cause they embarrassed the university and what it stood for. OUCH I think he is trying to get fired with his post game remarks.
  19. Based on what they have done when in the games they should have red-shirted. Both have shot extremely bad. What makes it so tough for them is the sophomore class that has done so well. I dont see either one of them being close to anyone in this class, thus limited playing time. Also, with both of them suspended a game for breaking team rules does not help. I believe the coaches gave them a chance and they have just not performed in games and I assume in practice also. Thats where playing time is generally won. Go Sioux
  20. I don't think it is very accurate at all. I believe Webb was like a 72 and based on what Webb did his freshman year compared to what Gentry has done, its not close. I guess we will see what Benton brings next year but with a very good guard class ahead of them it could be tough for him just like it has been for Antwi and Gentry.
  21. We obviously do have big problems cause the same players are making the same mistakes in most games. We have very good talent in the sophomore class and when they play together as a team we can play very good basketball. The problem is when they play as individuals nothing is done by the coaches and when very poor shots are taken by the same players nothing is done. There is still plenty of time left in the season to make these changes but time is running out. The future should begin right now with making these players understand their roles and shots. If not the season will be lost and most likely the next 2 years with this class.
  22. Agree 100% on everything you said. The players have no clue and Im beginning to think the coaches have no clue who should be shooting what. Again for the 10th time, Huff and Allard should never ever shoot a three. Again last night they took 5 of them and didnt come close to making any of them. We have 4 players shooting a very good three point percentage but they aren't the ones taking the shots. Its time these players are coached what is a good shot and what is a bad shot. Alot of bad shots were taken last night again which caused long runs of little scoring. Granted not having Webb, Mitchell and a limited Brekke hurt but it was the same thing with poor shots and lacking defense. I really dont know what the coaches are looking at when they watch game films and see the same players doing the same bad shots and poor shot selection.
  23. What needs to improve for next year as we enter the Big Sky? Our weaknesses so far this year have been rebounding and shot selection. I guess you can add free throw shooting for most of the guys also. Another major concern that has been mentioned before is our inside/out game. Watched Michigan State play UMKC last night and Michigan States post player had 6 assists. Our bigs (Brekke,Allard,Mathison and Archer) have a combined 8 assists for the entire year, thats it. That just proves we dont look out once the ball goes in. That is basic basketball learned in junior high. So many guys are wide open but there is no need to guard on the outside once the ball goes in and the defense just collapses. I'm sure all teams are aware of this. What's everyones thoughts?
  24. Just saw the stats for the 2nd half. Out rebounded 23-8 in the second half. How is that possible in one half? These games are a benchmark to what we need to improve on for next year. First and foremost it proves we dont have the bigs to compete on the boards and if we cant win the boards then we are in trouble.
  25. Agree we chase our guys on defense instead of staying in front of them and play defense. Which coach watches the defense and who is in charge of defense. This would never happen with Moody. This was Sacramento's highest point total of the year. Out rebounded so badly again and especially offensive rebounds when we got it close. And I ask again why is Huff shooting threes. Its again up to the coaches to stop this S**t. Wilmer was 6 inches taller than anybody on the floor and I think he got 2 rebounds. UGH. We need help down low.
