  1. Bad news. Brekke will not be playing from what I have heard. Not the way to start a season with such high hopes. It will no doubt leave a huge void at the post, so someone else will need to step up big time. I would think now Traylor will need to move over to the post to give us some experience cause from his successful limited action last year he could fill some of the void immediately while the others try and figure things out. Our lineup might look like Webb, Anderson, Huff, Nash and Traylor starting with Schuler first off the bench at either the 2,3 or 4 with Antwi in the mix at the 1 or 2 and Benton in the mix at the 3 or 4. Then you've got Salmonson and Calcatterra mixing things up at the 5 off the bench. This is based on Hooker red-shirting and Stefan not getting the waiver.
  2. Have heard he is still dealing with the concussion issues from last year, may be serious. Hopefully he can play but it's not sounding too good. This would be a huge loss.
  3. Thanks also for your input. Teeder mentioned that Hooker, Anderson and Schuler looked good. Is that what you saw also along with Salmonson. I am really encouraged by what you said about Huff and the nice dishes when he was driving against 2 and 3 players. I believe we do need a healthy Webb and Traylor could be huge also.
  4. Does anyone know why Webb did not play?
  5. With webb anderson schuler and antwi if hooker is not way better than these guys u red shirt him. He may have had a descent scrimmage but from what I have heard he has struggled in practice. His minutes would be minimal if he does not red shirt behind the class of guards we have. We don't need 5 good guards for this year. We already have 4 good ones.
  6. I have seen Schuler play point several times in his freshman and sophomore years and did a great job. He is not quick but very smart with the ball and when he penetrates he finds the wide open man. There's been quite a few games where at the end of the half they put the ball in his hands to penetrate and he either takes a good shot or hits the open player. Schuler would be my number one option at point instead of Antwi if Hooker red-shirts. Antwi scares me when he is out top dribbling it side to side.
  7. Don't understand how anybody could say anything negative about Steve and Brandon. Steve was a great player for UND in his day and does a tremendous job for this university. Brandon has earned the starting job because of his play and nothing else. Brandon is 30 shot attempts short of being the all-time FG% shooter this university has ever had. Looking at his stats his career shooting% is 61.9%. Nobody has every achieved this mark for their career. Don't recall Steve ever helping him make a single shot, he's done it all on his own. They are great people and deserve accolades of what they have done for this UND and nothing else.
  8. Very nice article. From what I have heard Hooker is red-shirting but of course that can always change with injuries or other factors. I have no problem with Hooker red-shirting due to the quality back court we currently have and this way Hooker will have 4 full years of play for UND instead of being a partial sub behind all of our talented and experienced guards for his first year.
  9. Just browsing thru some sport sights and CBS sportsline.com came across a panel of 6 experts predicting the conference champs for each conference. In the Big Sky 3 picked Weber, 2 picked Montana and one extremely smart expert picked UND. Go Sioux
  10. I agree you need to play your best but also on the other hand if players have similar ability then I say you play the players that have contributed many years in the program. We have an extremely talented senior class that have played the bulk of the minutes for the past 3 years and have done tremendous things for this program. I believe they have scored over 70% of our points since arriving as freshmen ( #1 scoring freshmen class in the nation 3 years ago). For me it would take someone a whole lot better than them to replace them. This years team will be by far the deepest team UND has had for many many years. This team is extremely talented at least 2 deep in every position which will create playing time issues for a lot of players and the coaches will have their hands full trying to get playing time for everyone. It will be fun to watch.
  11. I know Schuler and Brekke red-shirted a year but I consider them the class with Anderson, Webb and Huff since they have played all 3 years together so far. It was been quite a fun class to watch with everything different each one brings to the team.
  12. I agree with Nash being a huge key to the next level because of his size and athleticism and also Traylor can be huge. We got a glimpse of what Traylor can do on the inside in just a few games last year. In my opinion these two are the key cause we know what we have in Huff, Anderson, Webb, Schuler, Brekke, Antwi and Benton. This will be by far the most complete and deepest team we have had in years. Go Sioux
  13. Seems like we have so many offers out there and yet no commitments. We have so much to replace after this upcoming season its starting to concern me.
  14. Very nice. Wisconsin, NDSU, Oregon tournament and then on the road to Butler. Extremely difficult to start but should be very exciting.
  15. Excellent points.
  16. Was wishing for better numbers but when he did shoot he shot around 58% from the floor. Only 8 minutes a game is not so good but he is big and could easily develop into a nice role players.
  17. Is he eligible to play immediately and if so at 6'10" he may take over the 5 spot. I do however like that lineup for sure.
  18. This would be a nice packaged deal. A big and a tall shooting guard. We have so much to replace after next year and this would be a great start. The brothers would play 2 years together and be a great addition to this team in the future.
  19. I see that Jake Thomas is transferring again. He played 2 years at South Dakota, sat out one year for a transfer and then played last year to Marquette. If he transfers to another D1 school he would have to sit out again for one year and then his 5 years is done. If he transfers to a D2 or D3 school he could play immediately or if he has graduated he could play immediately for a D1 school. Did not understand why he transferred to a school like Marquette to sit out a year and barely play.
  20. First line - Congratulations to Troy Huff. Second line - Huff is a great individual player and has won many DESERVED awards these last 3 years. Have said many times Huff is a great player with unlimited athletic ability and that if this TEAM is going further it will depend on Huff. I personally congratulate Huff after every game when I get the chance. Him being mid major all american is great for him and for the university without a doubt. Until he shows me more that he is a team player I will still comment on the fact that he shoots way to many shots with 2-3 defenders on him. Green team agrees he was not so much a team player his first 2 years but wasn't the case this year. Well he only had 1 assist/game this year (which was less than prior 2 years) and he draws 2-3 guys everytime he drives and to get only 1 assist/game with that many guys on you in my mind he should be getting more teammates involved with a pass. Huff is I believe the only player on this team that can take us to the next level next year and I guess I expect more from him with all his abilities. He can't continue to take shots with that many defenders on him with other wide open is my point and I've never seen anything to change that.
  21. Congratulations to Troy Huff. Huff is a great individual player and has won many deserved awards these last 3 years. Hopefully next year he can become more of a team player and take UND to the next level cause I believe if he passes more with 2-3 defenders on him to wide open players it will elevate UND to a point they can compete and beat teams like Montana , UNI and the Webers that play total team ball. We have not played very good team ball for most of the games and with our senior class next year and the new players coming in we can be dancing if we get away from all our individual play. Go Sioux
  22. Very good season indeed. An 11 point loss on the road to a team with an RPI of 80 is not hateful with the way UNI shot and considering this team has been on a bus for about 23 hours in the last several days. Next year could be special but they still need to watch the films of teams like UNI , Montana and Weber and play more team ball than what they do. There are still way too many poor shots between certain players with2-3 guys on them whole others are wide open. Three years and still this happen and wish Jones would finally do something about this. These players cannot continue to play so much one on one and expect to beat quality teams like UNI. A lot of expectations for next year.
  23. Excellent site. We played the most teams ranked in the top 100 of any team in the Big Sky, we were 0-8. Now we need to make that 1-8 after a win at Northern Iowa.
  24. I wish we were playing someone other than a team we've already played. Northern Iowa at their place is a very tough game for us. Northern Iowa beat Creighton and Witchita State at home in the last month. Glad they are playing but a very tough draw on the road, agree we will need a Weber type of game from everyone again.
  25. Whatever is decided its got the potential to be a great year with a very good possibility of dancing. Can't wait and wish it was november already. Go sioux
