  1. I would also think teams may zone us more to cut down on the penetration of Huff, Anderson, Webb and Hooker but at the same time we can take them out of the zone by draining 3's. We have very good outside shooters in Anderson, Schuler, Huff and Stefen and once they start lighting things up then the zones will be gone. Last night was just one of those games and every team is going to have these nights several times a year. It wont be our last this year but hopefully they are few and far between. Go Sioux
  2. I believe with all the lawsuits being made so public that if a player gets hit in the head and he has a headache the trainers/doctors are going to sit the athlete to take any chance of recourse on them. The new theory better safe than sorry. Years ago players played with these issues but attorneys have changed all that.
  3. Heard from a source that Schuler has a concussion from practice the other day and is not traveling to Oregon. This is a big loss with 3 games in 3 days. Hopefully he will recover in a few days and back in action next week.
  4. There could not have been a better game for recruits to come and watch, especially if some also had offers from NDSU which seems the case with a lot of the recruits we are after. Every player likes to score and watching us put up 95 points and averaging the same makes getting these players that much easier. Jones has formed a great foundation for the future with this senior class and what they have done for this university and the old saying is build it and they will come may hold true based on what this class has done and are doing right now.
  5. ESPN has our RPI at 47 after victory over NDSU. Very nice and lets continue to climb this weekend against 3 very good teams.
  6. Great observations. Schuler has never got a lot of credit in his 4 years but he is so solid every single game and does all the right things. With as few touches he gets every night he still has an outside shot at 1000 career points. He is like the quarterback out there cause if you notice he is directing players over and over where they need to be. Wish when he sets a screen for Anderson that Anderson would dish it back to him cause he is so wide open and the pass is never made. Schuler should get more looks but the passes dont come. Calcaterra had a great game considering how he played the first several games and gives me hope for the post position. Huff was great again tonight and Nash brings so much athletic ability to this team. Webb offensively was off again tonight for the third straight game, hope he comes around and we will be that much more lethal. Go Sioux
  7. The bench was no doubt the difference tonight. NDSU has no bench and UND has a bench that gives the first team all they can handle every day in practice. In fact the 2nd team beat the first team everyday in practice the week leading up to the Wisconsin game and thats why the 2nd team got the start at Wisconsin. Other facts: its a shame we don't have a big crowd every home game with this team because they are exciting to watch ; its a shame we only have students come to these games when we play NDSU or hockey give a way tickets. Great game and great atmosphere.
  8. Heading to the game shortly. Curious to see who starts at post. Still think Nash should slide down to post and start Webb, Anderson, Huff, Schuler, Nash. Get our best out there with the most experience and ability to score.
  9. Happy to hear that about Gentry. Will never forget his dancing and that huge smile in the middle of the huddle prior to each game starting. Has great athleticism but just came to UND at a tough time to crack the lineup with this current senior class.
  10. First line. This could be good news. However until I see what he brings versus what we have I will wait to make full judgement. Everyone got overly excited the same way about slamonson and calcaterra and look where we r with them. Also I am a huge fan of the 5 seniors we have had since their freshmen year and don't want to see any of them not playing huge minutes cause they are the one that brought us this far . I go to every home game and watch almost every road game via internet . Don't think u can say the same cause u r always asking what's going on. So yes I am a huge fan.
  11. This could be good news but dont get too excited yet. He has shot under 35% from three for his career and the most he has ever averaged is 4 pts/game. It's really a position (guard) we are already loaded at and does not help us one bit where we need help ( post). For him to get minutes then one or several of our other key players lose minutes. I believe it causes issues as well as potential answers.
  12. This game is going to be very close the entire game. It may come down to who makes the free throws at the end and this concerns me a lot. We need to get our shooters involved in this game cause against Wisconsin Anderson, Schuler and Antwi I believe only took 2 three's among them. I re-watched the game and when the guards drive they need to look for these open guys cause they continue to force shots with numerous defenders on them. We no doubt have the athletes this year and experience that can run with anybody but we still need play as a team and not rely so much on shooting with multiple defenders on us. This shows in the amount of points we have scored and lack of assists. I don't think NDSU can stop our athletes but I also know we can't stop NDSU's post game. Borkland could have a career game against Salmonson and Calcaterra. Wish we had Wilmer back cause at least he played hard and aggressive. If we had Brekke I'd feel real confident right now. It's going to be a classic with 2 very good teams in a sold out environment.
  13. The issue with Schuler and Antwi is they run down into their corners and stand and what's suppose to happen is the guards are suppose to penetrate and draw Schuler's or Antwi's man in and then a dish from the guards to a wide open wing. That rarely happens cause when the guards drive they shoot regardless how many guys are on them. Its been that way for 3 years and its probably not going to change. Wings like Schuler and Antwi rarely touch the ball and very difficult for them to score. When they do they can each put up big numbers as proven in the past. Schuler if he is not scoring is our best defender by far and moves the ball to the open man. Webb is the one so far this year that has been non-existant for some reason. His shots last night were very poor shots and he just looks out of it right now for some reason. Hopefully he will get things going cause we do truly need his experience. Heard the reason for the starting lineup last night was because the team that started has been destroying the regular starters in practice over and over. Like what Jones did if that is the case so to wake up the regular starters that you've got to come to practice everyday to work hard.
  14. Since we will probably not play too many 7 footers I'd put a physical big guard at the 5 ( Hobaugh and Benton) who will be very physical because Salmonson and Calcattera is not the answer down low. Our current bigs bring nothing down low except Traylor and he should truly be a 4. Jones and company need to find some solid bigs between now and next year or run a 5 guard offense.
  15. Realistically with Brekke I would say we could keep this game close. However, we don't have Brekke and with what we saw from our posts and barely out rebounding a D3 school we have a major issue on the inside. Teams like Wisconsin, Oregon, NDSU and Butler will dominate us on the inside and make it very difficult for our guards to make up the difference. Jones and company will have to figure things out in a hurry who to play and how to handle the post positions. By the time we get to the Big Sky hopefully things will be figured out but until then it may be a bumpy road. I can see us going with a 4 guard offense rarely quickly and this may be our best way to go. We played our best last year with this same type of offense. Beating Wisconsin at home will be a huge task for this team but there is a reason you play the game out, anything can happen. Go Sioux
  16. One game suspension only. We will have Schuler and Traylor for the remainder of the games.
  17. As mentioned before Brekke is done. It's so unfortunate with what we saw from our post players tonight.
  18. So many games there will be no flow to it. Hope our men are spending hours and hours shooting free throws cause that alone could win more games this year than ever before.
  19. Whoever has the ball you can't put a hand or forearm on them and any bump of a guard when driving is also suppose to be a foul. Games so far this year are taking 30+ minutes longer due to all the free throws being shot. One game I saw both teams shot over 50 free throws each. Many players fouling out each game.
  20. Tonight's game really should not provide us with much to be honest. We should win big and almost everyone should contribute big and everyone will probably play that is dressed. The following 7 games will provide us with what to expect from all the new faces before we start league play and by then it will be determined who gets the minutes and if a mistake was made. Hopefully everything will work out just like everyone wants. Missing Brekke's experience and talent will be huge as for the past several years our weakness has been no depth at the post position and we start this year with no experience and an unknown depth. That's what worries me as the 1,2 and 3 positions are as good as anybody in the Big Sky.
  21. Wisconsin and Oregon will be extremely difficult games and if we keep it semi competitive that would be good. Saw last night Montana was getting spanked by 20+ to someone and the game was not complete. Games like these are money for us and easy wins unfortunately for them.
  22. Still thinking it is a mistake to not red-shirt Hooker. Everything I have heard is that he is not ready and that since he has been here he has struggled. Yeah maybe he had a descent scrimmage game but that was only one day of months of open gym and practices. I think part of what the coaches are afraid of is this new foul rule. Seems every game I have watched so far teams are going to third string players in most all positions. We truly would have 4 point guards if Hooker played but if Webb and Anderson get into early foul trouble then Hooker may need to play. But once we get into league play and players become accustomed to what they can and can't do this his minutes could go way down cause Anderson and Webb play 30+ minutes a game. I guess either him or Antwi will lose the minutes at that point. Maybe he will turn it around once he starts playing who knows but the minutes will still be limited behind our current guards and is it worth those few minutes to lose an entire season.
  23. If he doesn't get at least 15 minutes a game not red-shirting him would be a huge mistake. With Webb, Anderson, Schuler, Antwi I really don't see how he is going to get 15+ minutes a game. Webb and Anderson play 30+ minutes a game, Schuler plays 28 minutes a game and Antwi gets around 20. Throw in Benton at guard, which he is, and the possibility of Stefen in the mix and the minutes are going to be very slim. I also heard in the scrimmage last Friday that nobody played good and Hooker was bad and we tied Sioux Falls without Schuler, Traylor and of course Brekke. We will need him more in 4 years than we will this year..
  24. Career ending. Don't know the prognosis or why, just what I heard.. Maybe medical redshirt in hopes of next year, not sure.
