  1. While I love the idea of recreating that style of course, North Dakota doesn't have the sand-based land or the weather to maintain the fescue grass that makes the ball run like it does over in Scotland. The US has a lot of faux-links style courses that look like links but don't play that way. For example, King's Walk is described by some as "links" because it lacks trees but it plays like a parkland due to the soil it's on it's more target golf than playing it along the ground. There are very few actual links courses this side of the pond that mimic what's played in the Scotland, Ireland, and England. The closest to us that sort of gets there is Sand Valley in Wisconsin but even that falls a bit short. Some of the courses that are true links style in the US are Sandhills in Nebraska which is private and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon. If you've ever played a true links style course it is, in my opinion, the most fun style of golf to play anywhere.
  2. With UND's history of shot suppression, all I've ever asked of a UND goalie is above .910 throughout the year. Anything above .920 and we're at least a top 5 team in the country.
  3. I'm less worried about the goal song than I am about all of the music played before and throughout the game. We don't need to unironically be playing songs from 10-15 years ago, let's keep up with the times. Sure, mix in some classics(looking at you AC/DC) but time to retire a lot of these songs that have been played into the ground. And for the love of God read the room! No baby shark when we're playing our biggest rival and there's 3 minutes left in the game!
  4. Any of you guys on here got some free time in the next few days? Seems like a lot of great advice on here that Coach Berry could and should be listening to. Maybe someone with a line to schloss could print these posts out so Berry knows he has to make tough decisions and get rid of the awe shucks attitude. There’s a treasure trove of good information on this board that the coach doesn’t have!!
  5. Yeah you’d think out of those 4 guys at minimum 1 or 2 would be able to bury the puck at the NCAA level. Is it October yet?
  6. Sounds like 4 pretty impressive freshmen forwards are coming in next year, all ranked in the top 20 in ushl scoring one of them being a rookie in the league. I’m pretty excited to see their game translate myself.
  7. I mean if you want a guy that gets all the recruits we could investigate Mel Pearson as an option… there’s a chance he’s searching soon
  8. Your statement leads me to believe you think it’s an act. Why is that? One thing that strikes me about Berry is when he’s done with an interview/press conference/etc he takes extra time to thank the person doing the interview or something along those lines. He also takes a lot of extra time to appreciate all the support the program gets, including things that aren’t posted by the UND hockey social media. From all my experiences with him, he’s just a genuinely good person. When I lived across the street from him as a kid he’d invite the neighborhood kids over, give us candy bars and answer all our questions about playing in the NHL. Before he moved away he stopped at my house and gave me a hockey stick from his nhl career. IMO These aren’t things people do for notoriety or because they want to appear good. It’s because they are good.

  10. Reposting from a March 2nd post I made this year with adjustments for DU's 2022 title. I've added in quotations how many seasons since that program's most recent title. Titles Years Eligible Avg Years Between Titles Denver(0) 9 71 7.9 Michigan(24) 9 74 8.2 Nodak(6) 8 73 9.2 Wisco(16) 6 57 9.5 Gophers(19) 5 74 14.8 BC(10) 5 7458 14.8 UMD(2) 3 58 19.3 This is solely focusing on national titles. You add in league titles and the picture gets even more clear we aren't watching average hockey at The Ralph every Friday and Saturday night. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to stir something up or just needs more attention.
  11. I noticed a couple of really bad pinches after DU scored, were taking risks they hadn't taken in the previous 50 minutes of the game. One of those terrible pinches lead to the 2 on 1 goal by Rizzo that was essentially the dagger.
  12. Yeah learning that, but man it’s so much more carefree when your self worth isn’t tied to a teams success of which you have no control over.
  13. Honestly don’t know why some of you still cheer for UND or are you this negative with everything in your lives? “Yeah I won the million dollar lottery but some other guy won a bigger one. And think of the taxes!”
  14. Thanks for putting all that together. As I suspected, no program has been as “consistent” about being in the mix every year. As someone else mentioned that won’t stop the teeth knashing of the “natty or bust” crowd. However, I think level headed adults can recognize how impressive that is without qualifying it with “but where are da nattys?”
  15. I don't know how to put this exactly but is there a school in the last 15-20 years that's had a better average pairwise ranking than UND? What's the worst they've finished? 20th? Every other school seems to have had a real huge clunker year(or 3!)
  16. He acknowledge in a youtube video someone posted on here that while they have world class facilities that are helpful, it can be difficult to recruit against these schools in more attractive cities. Some kids are set on going to that large campus atmosphere, which I get because I was the same way. That hasn't changed because of the Big 10 conference though, you'll always have kids that want to go to that massive college with the biggest parties/football games/etc. But there's plenty of high end players that do not need that and want to focus nearly all of their time on getting better, winning titles and getting to the next level. Johnny Toews, Tyson Jost, & Jake Sanderson come to mind as guys that could have closed their eyes and picked a school to go to yet chose UND for a reason.
  17. There's something to be said for schools that place hockey as a priority, there's a recruiting advantage to being the big man on campus. The Big10 will get theirs for sure but this is a little too chicken little for me. I see the BIG and NCHC alternating years and which conference is the best in the west. Sure the BIG will get more of the high end young kids that are 1-2 year players but that creates its own set of problems, see: Boston University & Wisconsin's unbalanced classes. Unless Michigan gets through this gauntlet of a Frozen Four, we still haven't seen one of these "super teams" win the big prize.
  18. And before the GTG taking a draw we won and rifling it into the crowd rather than off the glass SMH
  19. Yup, I believe this was 2013 as well so everyone was getting on board after the 2011 title. Also just reminded me that he said he "used to be a Gopher fan because he went to school there". Just hopping around MN colleges depending on who wins I guess. If Mankato takes it all this year I'm sure he'll buy his purple cow jersey and talk about how great Derrick McKay was in net all year.
