Could part of that be attributed to the fact that he's not a natural defenseman so playing in those positions doesn't come as naturally as guys have been doing it at a high level for many years? Give me a split with SCSU next weekend and get healthy for the 2nd half and I'll be happy with our chances to make a run. This team doesn't suck, they have shown what they can do vs BU and Providence with all cylinders firing. The problem is they are a bit immature in my opinion and having your 5th year captain and 1C out along with a couple of critical Dmen for PKs has really got them reeling.

I think the reason you notice it on the PP is he's given time and space. Seen a lot of globetrotter passes that may have worked in the USHL that go the other way. He's gotten better but still doesn't look completely caught up to college speed or physicality. Once he does, look out.

Cornell is leagues above Miami, RMU, BSU. Cornell is a team that was a goal away from the Frozen Four and lost ONE single player and replaced him with a stud freshman. Cornell is a Frozen Four team, none of the aforementioned teams will make the tourney save a conference tournament championship.

Feel like this is a good stretch for him to miss tbh. I think we can go 5-1 minimum without him during this stretch. We SHOULD have plenty of firepower to get past those teams without him. Especially with how battle tested this team is and knowing they can't take a shift off with the top line center out. This week against DU however, I'll take a split and run.

With Zmolek being long term, do they bring a d-man in at the break?

While I really like some passes Monty made to get rushes going he made some mistakes that would have ended in the back of our net multiple times if we were playing a stronger team. It was towards the end of Saturdays game, every time he was in the d zone and had some forecheck pressure he whiffed on the pass. Monty did more than we could have hoped for but we need a 6th dman back.

Make that 3 out of 4

Time to carry a 9th dman for future rosters. I feel like we run into this EVERY SINGLE SEASON

If it helps the morale, I’ve been to 3 series in Duluth and we’ve swept 2 of them. I will be attending this weekend.

All well thought out and completely reasonable posts as are the thousands of the ones like it(from the literal DOZENS of faceless avatars) after every single loss(exhibition or otherwise). I had to be that guy but… it won’t have the effect you hope. The impact it will have on who the coach of UND’s hockey program: 0.000000001%. Maybe… MAYBE someone will show Chaves one of the posts as a joke, but even that’s a long shot. In other words, you’re wasting your time.

Initially I was thinking 'still a long time until he gets to campus' until you realize he's likely coming in 2 years when he's 17.

One thing I've learned from previous seasons is the teams that play the hard schedules in the beginning of the year grow at a much quicker rate than those that don't. And it shows itself in spades come NCAA tourney time. I'm not as concerned about UND's record through the first 10 games(to a point obviously, I'd panic if we were 2-8) as I am about seeing the team develop and find an identity.
