  1. Right now I feel like we have a team built on basically 2 skilled/scoring lines and 2 grind type lines and we need to adapt our personnel to get into 3 skilled/scoring lines. If you look at our lineup right now I'd say Jamernik, Senden, Portz, Albrecht, Ness, Hain, and Strinden are more of the grind type right now although I do think Strinden and Hain could play with skill and elevate to those roles but they haven't been put in those positions. Kunz and Caulfield I'm not real sure where they fit because they bring some skill but I'm not sure they skate well enough to play as much of a skill/scoring role as you'd like. If you look at what could be here I would classify Blake, Gaber, Schmaltz, Costantini, James, McLaughlin, and Perron as guys who need to play the skill/scoring type roles/style. The biggest thing I want to see moving forward is more speed and skill but also playing those speed/skill guys together. To me if you get Gaber back something like this is what I'd like to see: James-McLaughlin-Blake Gaber-Schmaltz-Perron Strinden-Costantini-Emerson Kunz-Jamernik-Portz/Ness
  2. To me there is no need to bring Albrecht back, between him Portz, and Ness I feel like they are same player and you don't need 3 guys bringing that same profile to the lineup.
  3. I think Panzer has dealt with injuries much of this season even when he has been playing.
  4. This squad is very reminiscent of a couple other of Berrys teams like the one that got swept by Canisius. I don't have a lot of faith in Berry to get this program back to where it should be which is consistently top of the conference, top of the 5-10 nationally, and winning NCAA tournament games while getting to Frozen Fours. Yes Berry has led us to some conference championships and won a national title taking over that 2016 team but counting this season and not counting the covid year he will have also missed the NCAA Tournament 3 out of his 7 seasons including 3 of the last 5, only been to 1 Frozen Four, lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament twice, and been on the road in the NCHC playoffs twice. To go along with that a number of our teams including this year have no clear identity, defensively we have gotten worse in his tenure, recruiting has taken a big step back and in my mind a big part of that is on the the lack of energy/effort from the head man. We have had multiple embarrassing loses in the non-conference both at home and on the road like Canisius, Arizona State, Cornell, Penn State, U18 team, Bemidji, Union, and Michigan State. Along with bad conference losses to Miami, Omaha, and Colorado College now I'm not saying those non-con or conference losses were embarrassing because of each of the programs although some are I'm saying it because when the losses happened they happened to bad teams in that given year. I'm at the point where whatever is gonna bring change is what I hope happens. If that means we need to get embarrassed a couple times down the stretch here then so be it because the best thing for North Dakota Hockey right now would be making a change. This program has and should have championship expectations year in and year out and right now we are nowhere close to that being realistic.
  5. Defense and goaltending continue to plague this team. Never seen a UND group struggle so much in coverage. Ty Farmer has been such a massive disappointment to me, really thought adding him would give you a solid 4 to rely on with Kleven, Frisch, and Jandric but it hasn't been that way at all.
  6. It was always the easy need a whistle play. Gets cold in there especially if you get the pleasure of a 6AM practice with frost still on the glass but great hard ice and when the place gets rocking it is awesome. I remember playing Park Rapids at home when the Lehrke that went to Mankato was a SR and they were a top 10 team with and may have been undefeated at the time and we jumped out to a 3-1 lead and they took timeout and the place was electric with people constantly pounding on the walls the entire timeout you couldn't hear anything a coach was saying.
  7. It isn't ND but gotta give some props to my alma mater Red Lake Falls picking up what is believed to be the first win in hockey program history over Thief River Falls 4-1 last night
  8. Anyone know if we recruited Hampton Slukynsky out of Warroad? Really good in the net and was a guy I wanted. I'd gladly have 3-4 committed off that Warroad team including him and Shagubay.
  9. Should know section 8A pretty well too
  10. Believe he has played in the elite league the last couple years and pretty well this fall. I think there have been a few types from these small schools in 8A that have put up huge points playing soft schedules and huge minutes out of necessity going back a number of years. Places like Kittson, Red Lake Falls, Park Rapids, and Lake of the Woods a while ago.
  11. Some coaching openings starting to get filled. Frank Reich to the Panthers, DeMecco Ryans to Houston where he was a great LB, and Sean Payton to Denver. Interestingly it looks like Denver tried to land Ryans today trying to get him to reconsider his Houston commitment but when that didn't work they went to Payton.
  12. Kyle Shanahan is pretty amazing with QBs but think it will have to be their defense and special teams leading the way today. Best shots offensively are getting McCaffery and Samuel loose on a screen or reverse or something.
  13. Certainly are. Believe they have wins over at the time the #1 team in AA and A when they beat Wayzata and Hermantown.
  14. Did what we should do against a bad team wait I mean terrible program. Good to see a number of young guys get on the scoresheet. Still a very long and dangerous climb to get out of the crater we created, gotta be very close to perfect.
  15. Anyone have a stream tonight? Been trying to check onhockey but I can't get on there
  16. Michigan wins 5-4 in OT, hope to see them and Minnesota face each other again
  17. Soft play and blown coverage give Duluth their first goal and an atrocious turnover and out of control goalie give them the game winner. Had some great chances but couldn't convert both Blake and Albrecht had 2 great looks each and they missed. DeRidder made some solid saves but the game winner is part of why I can't stand him. He his always flopping/diving around out of control and has no idea where he is in the net, if he is in control and stays positionally sound that puck hits him easily on the game winner. The other part is he has absolutely no idea where the puck is going when it hits him, without a doubt among the worst rebound control I've ever seen from a college goaltender. This program is in a real bad place right now and I feel really needs a change in leadership. It is the same stuff over and over again which means either the coaches aren't recognizing the problems or they aren't getting their message through to the players and whichever of the two it is its a major problem. I had Minnesota/Michigan on one of my other TVs and found myself drawn to that game much more. The level of play looked like JV/Varsity between the two games.
  18. Thought we were much better in the dzone, more focus on not just being near guys but being in them and their sticks. Pretty good job of limiting grade A chances. Goaltending was what it has been for much of the year. Some horrendous rebounds and kinda all over the place outta control but did enough to get a win. Created some really dominant stretches offensively but you’d still like to cash in on a few more opportunities.
  19. I loved Arraez. I understand the Twins thinking though that they are selling high on him and could be coming off a career year. Lopez seems like a solid pitcher but don't think he is the true ace they need.
