  1. Why isn't it smart? Shakopee sits back in a zone and won't come out and guard the Hopkins guy so why shouldn't Hopkins hold the ball for the last shot since they don't have a shot clock. Hopkins has a big advantage if they force Shakopee to play man to man but instead they sat back in the zone and let what happened happen instead of trying to go out and win the game. I didn't like it and think they need a shot clock but it is the smart move by Hopkins and teams have tried to do this to them before but they play man to man defense and pressure the ball so it is harder for it to work.
  2. They need to get a shot clock but it is a smart move by Hopkins. Shakopee is sitting back in a zone and letting Hopkins just hold the ball and have the last shot so it makes sense for them to do that and not even give Shakopee a chance to win it. Would be very surprised if this doesn't spark the big shot clock debate. Amir Coffey who hopefully will be a future Gopher just hit the game winner from behind the half-court line.
  3. Nick Wolff committed to Duluth today-He looked very good in the state tourney but really just no room for him at UND. Chris Forney of TRF committed to UMASS-Lowell today. Jay Dickman of St.Paul Johnson who the Sioux had some interest in at one time but he really didn't develop as much as people hoped committed to Bemidji.
  4. 2014 NTDP evaluation camp roster announced and Minnesota leads the way with 12 players invited. http://www.usahockey.com/news_article/show/358590?referrer_id=752796
  5. I'll say Sioux sweep CC SCSU in 3 over Miami Denver in 3 over UNO Duluth in 3 over Western Michigan
  6. You're rink? Are you trying to say you're the ghost of Herb Brooks? GO FIGHTING SIOUX!
  7. Didn't get to really see much of the game until the 3rd because I midco had to show bball on the main channel and we can't get the other midco channels. Game looked sloppy and kind of ugly overall and I think part of that is a credit to Western Michigan because that is the style they want to play. Reffing also seemed pretty bad this weekend but I think it was mostly bad both ways and kind of expected that with who was reffing. I think Andy Murray may be the opposing coach I hate the most as he is just a big cry baby on the bench. Had to put the game on mute tonight because whoever was in for Hammer and Kober were just horrible to listen to and combine that with the non HD this weekend it wasn't a real great production. While I would have liked to win the 1st NCHC regular season championship I do prefer the matchup with CC quite a bit which is the reason I'm not really upset with the loss all that much. Why didn't they we get to watch the senior tribute video either?
  8. Final was 8-2 Edina and it probably could have been worse. Edina was dominant with puck control and really gave Lakeville North nothing all night.
  9. Edina leads 6-2 after 2. Lakeville North will open the 3rd with about 4 minutes remaining on a major penalty to Tyler Naane. Lakeville has to find some energy for this 3rd and generate some chances offensively but at the same time tighten things up defensively because Edina has had quite a few real good opportunities.
  10. Edina adds another one after a bad Lakeville turnover for a 5-2 lead. Feels weird to say but Lakeville is lucky Oettinger has kept Edina only at 5 so far. Lakeville hasn't got much going offensively and Edina is getting chances from scoring areas rather routinely. Bellows quickly adds another one on a tip in all alone in front for the 6-2 lead.
  11. Edina gets another powerplay goal for a 4-2 lead. Oettinger with a big glove save on a 2-on-1 to keep Lakeville within striking distance.
  12. Agreed, the North goalie Oettinger really has had no chance on any of the Edina goals and has come up with a couple big saves to keep the game where it is. North's goals have come on rebounds and more scramble situations.
  13. Edina leads Lakeville North 3-2 after one so guess I was off with my hopeful prediction. Lots of great action, North doesn't look quite as quick and I wonder if the OT games have them a little more tired. Edina has looked very crisp and physical. Both teams have cashed in on a powerplay and I think North has to find a way to generate more shots as Edina's goalie hasn't looked all that solid when tested.
  14. Expecting a good one tonight between Lakeville North and Edina. Lakeville North needs to take a page out of Eagan's book and make sure to play physical against Edina but also has to stay out of the box because the Edina powerplay is very dangerous. I think Edina has the better depth and skill for the most part but North has the better goaltending. I'm taking Lakeville North 3-2 in OT.
  15. Zach Yon scored his 200th career point in a 3-2 consolation championship win over Duluth East and finished with a goal and an assist.
  16. Congrats to EGF on the Class A Championship. Congrats to Roseau as well as they beat Duluth East 3-2 for the Consolation Championship. This group for EGF has won championships at every level for EGF and really kind of re-energized the program as their youth program is really thriving right now. Not sure how Bowen and Eades were left of the all tournament team. I know some kids could leave early but I'm hopeful they don't as it could be a real battle between EGF and Warroad in 8A again with Bethune and Roth having another year of eligibility and EGF's top line returning.
  17. I would love to see all the guys that can play another year of high school play another year of high school because it makes Minnesota High School hockey that much better but there is no question some of these guys could go to the USHL if they wanted. Eades and Poolman are both seniors and I would expect both to be in the USHL next year. I would think Bowen, Tweeten, Ausmus, and G.Loven all could have a chance to go early to the USHL if they wanted.
  18. Agreed and I'd be very happy about that. Bowen, Loven, and Tweeten are forwards that are probably close to the top of a lot of teams lists.
  19. I'd throw the younger Loven in there too. Bowen's line has definitely been flat out dominant at times throughout the tournament. Poolman is just solid all around too. I like Eades potential too with his size, and physical play especially if he can improve his skating some. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 5 or more future D1 players on this EGF team.
  20. EGF all over Hermantown 5-1 after 2. EGF has only given up more than 2 goals twice this season. Reffing has been pretty soft but at least it has gone both ways. Really hope the Sioux can get a few of these kids to stay home to play their college hockey.
  21. Hermantown 1-0 after 1. EGF had 4 penalties to Hermantowns 1 and apparently the refs think everyone is there to watch them. Hope they realize this is a state championship and let these teams play instead of making weak call after weak call.
  22. EGF and Hermantown coming up shortly. Should be a very physical game and I would think real good scoring opportunities will be at a premium but if EGF plays to their capabilities I like their chances.
  23. Edina leads Eagan 1-0 after 1. Edina's goal came from Malmquist on a real nice effort by him and chance that he was robbed by Lindgren but unfortunately for Eagan their d-man knocked the puck in while trying to clear it. Pretty good back and forth physical game so far with Eagan coming very close to tying it up hitting 2 posts.
  24. Didn't see the whole game because I was watching the Minnesota High School State Tourney too but from what I saw the Sioux had some good chances and a number of them. Game lacked crispness at times and the Sioux seemed to be a little sloppy at times but most importantly found a way to get the win. Also where was Hammer and who was the guy that announced tonight? I hope I never have to hear him do a game again.
