Vote on your final 5 nickname choices (just ND is out)
jdub27 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
In my life experiences, this is code for "no clue but I'm sure we can come up with something". That being said, outside of Fighting Hawks and maybe North Stars, pretty sure all the remaining names could fall under the category of being "pretty versatile" and are open to interpretations. -
Starting with 13 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, UND had 3 drives following Idaho State TD's. Those three totaled 9 plays and 14 yards with no first downs taking up a whopping 3:50 of clock. Idaho State was a terrible match-up for how and where UND was banged up. EWU and maybe MSU would have been the only other two conference teams that would have been worse. That being said, UND gave the game away with multiple big errors on both sides of the ball.

Weekly 2-deep changes: Offense Brandon Anderson returns from injury to move back into #1 LG spot, Dan Bell moves back down to #2 (Anderson ended up playing the whole game last week after the staff didn't think he'd be able to go early in the week). Defense N/A Special Teams N/A Of note - Studsrud and Reyes both listed as starters on the depth chart, with the staff hoping they will play. Clive Georges not on the depth chart, staff is hoping he will play.

And what exactly is this other shoe going to be? So far the only thing that has came out is information that is 6 months old and has nothing to do with the claims you were making. There is a lot of connected people who post on here and everything is public information to begin with yet somehow a FargoU fan has the inside scoop that he heard second or third hand. Sure thing...
-
But hear me out here....what if a guy from Texas files the lawsuit? That seems like it would be a game changer, no?
-
Can you point me to this podcast? I'd actually love to listen to it but it appears KNOX doesn't have the technology or didn't think it was important enough to record.

With ISU having a 1-4 record including being on the wrong end of a few pretty good beat downs, a quick start would go a long way in making sure they don't start getting any confidence and into any sort of a rhythm. If UND is able to do that, I think they can shut the door pretty quickly, eat up clock and the game won't be nearly as close as whatever the final score might be. On the other hand, if ISU starts hitting some passes and moving the ball, could be a tough day for UND's secondary. I think ISU has the talent, they just haven't put it together yet. It'd be preferable if they didn't do so this week.

Well considering it was your main (first) argument on how/why he had standing, it seems somewhat important. And you didn't mis-type, you flat out presented incorrect information. Because of that, your first point on why he had standing most definitely is not still true. Since you seem to know quite a bit about this, could you expand and explain how being part of the Sioux tribe has anything to do with North Dakota not being on the ballot and gives people standing to sue the University of North Dakota?
-
I was asking what you were talking about since you were trying to be so vague about it. If you were referring to the guy down in Texas, it is no surprise that you didn't want to actually mention it. The guy is so committed to the cause that he's crowdfunding the filing fees (and what looks like to be a nice cut for himself), is hoping to have it filed maybe the last weekday before the vote actually takes place not to mention he has no ground to stand on. Not sure how that qualifies as "quite the push to get ND back into the vote" but to each their own. I stated long ago the my preferred nicknames were eliminated from consideration. That didn't change the fact that I remain committed to supporting the University of North Dakota and the student-athletes, not a nickname.

No med school, no law school, research grants are mainly non-competitive and USDA related, want to increase endowment 80% (will still be smaller than UND's) and increase enrollment almost 25% in 5 years (worked well for Chapman right?). Sounds Bresciani finally found JC's old stash of the good stuff...
-
You might want to re-check that...

Is the money to cover the costs he's going to get slapped with for a frivolous lawsuit? And what happens if (when) he doesn't raise the $50K?
-
That's a whole lot of conjecture. Don't vote for Roughriders because you don't know what you're voting for but vote for Nodaks because even though no one knows what it is, it can be adjusted? Seems like you're arguing the same thing just presenting it different ways. And football and basketball teams have had no issues putting "North Dakota" on the front of their jersey's multiple times in the past, seems to me that is about the same length as Roughriders.

The teeth gnashing over Kelley retiring in January and what it has to do with the new nickname continues to be a little bit confusing. A committee was picked to come up with the process. Another committee was selected to represent stakeholders, use the process that was previously decided upon and sort through the names (with the unfortunate help of consultants). They narrowed down the list to five names. Stakeholders are voting. The name that gets 50% + 1 of the votes wins (whether it takes one or two votes). Kelley didn't pick the finalists nor is he picking the new nickname. Kelley isn't the one that removed North Dakota from consideration, the committee tasked to come up with a new nickname (which North Dakota is not) removed it. He did get his hands a little dirty by taking into consideration adding it back, but doing so would have undermined the committee who narrowed the list down. The people who are claiming he is or will be making unilateral decisions are the same ones who actually want him to do just that. I'm in no way saying that I don't think the process could have been handled better because it is obvious it could, just seems odd that people are stuck on Kelley retiring in January when he isn't the one making the final decisions. If people really think that its a brilliant idea to stick this nickname disaster on a new president, they haven't been paying attention for the last few decades.

Are you talking about the Herald article discussing another NDSU grad is sticking his nose into the nickname issue? It also includes the quote below, so not sure where you are getting the (incorrect) information there is some push to (unsuccessfully) get North Dakota on the ballot.

Maybe UND could just pass out a Chicago Blackhawks fan guide at freshman orientation?

What were you doing back in the kitchen?

It looks like 60% of the ranking is based on acceptance rate, which somehow at Minot State is only 56.6% and boosts their rating. The other 40% is made up of 25th and 75th percentile of SAT/ACT scores of enrolled students. Strangely enough, Dickinson State comes in second and has the lowest acceptance rate in the state (48.7%) despite having the worst SAT/ACT scores of enrolled students at both the 25th and 75th percentile.

It isn't quite at the level of Grady's highlights but a pretty entertaining video of verbal commit Hunter Pinke (6'5", 220lbs) returning a kick: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2875836/highlights/285939454/v2

Should be coming out next week to give people a week to make sure things are working before the voting opens. If/when there is a runoff, the turnaround will be quick on the second vote, within two weeks or so.

I thought after Wisconsin offered him a PWO, UND did come back and offer some sort of money but he had already (unfortunately and understably) made up his mind. Could be wrong and don't blame the kid either way, Wisconsin is where he dreamed of playing. Doesn't hurt that it has really worked out well for him. Edit - Looks like it was late scholarships from NDSU and NIU he turned down to come to UND as a PWO (at least in year 1).
-
I don't buy that argument. While I agree that the focus shifted too far away from ND and partially MN, I don't think that saying he didn't recruit the right kids is real accurate either. I think he hit on quite a few guys and there are quite a few kids that went through the program or aren't on campus any more that would look really good on UND's roster right now (Golladay, Schobert and Kuska come to mind immediately). The bigger issue to me was more what happened when the kids got to campus including player development/coaching. Good OC, just wasn't ready or able to be a HC at this level, particularly a first time HC. To make a bad situation worse, it was compounded by a whole host of other things including the transition, nickname issue and lack of support (that was definitely somewhat self-inflicted). Regardless, glad the football team appears to be headed in the right direction.
-
Very likely. That still doesn't change that one team got embarrassed in an OOC game on the road in a hostile environment against an unfamiliar opponent. The other got embarrassed at home in front of the largest crowd their stadium had ever seen against a conference opponent that they are incredibly familiar with.
