Hayduke, I appreciate your passion for hockey and willingness to play devil's advocate for the sake of discussion, but this answer has been stated several times. I'm sure we could have a good-natured debate about some of these and which apply to football, but here is the list as I see it. 1. Nearly $2 Million deficit per year 2. High cost per athlete ($80,000 per year/per athlete) 3. Extremely low attendance 4. Minimal public interest 5. Minimal Champion's Club related donations 6. Minimal merchandise revenue 7. Minimal TV exposure 8. Average on-ice results (Poor championship level results) 9. Limited local recruits 10. Low future growth potential

IMO this is the most short-sighted part of filing this lawsuit. The only way that women's hockey is returning to UND is if UND decided to reinstate it. As has been mentioned several times, Title IX does not require that specific sports be offered. So in the event that NDUS (UND) lost the case, which they won't since they are Title IX compliant, there is no mechanism for a court to require that women's hockey be reinstated. If a school is found to be non-compliant with Title IX, they can just make adjustments to funding and resources of current sports. If any lawyers on the board see it differently, I would be very interested in your opinions.

Kennedy vs. Engelstad Foundation: GF herald feature
HawksHoops replied to jdub27's topic in Community
Based on what evidence? That Kennedy wants to revisit an agreement that is signed annually and potentially make it more beneficial to UND? What evidence do we have that McGarry is willing to move forward in good faith? We know she has lied regarding Kennedy's unwillingness to meet. BTW, I agree with you that McGarry is trying to get that message across. I just question her credibility. -

Fair Point. It's hard to believe that a compromise can't be reached in these negotiations. -

I don't think we have seen a quote from Kennedy saying anything along those lines. He doesn't seem to want to negotiate this publicly. The only references to Kennedy's unwillingness to work with McGarry have come from her. Based on the fact that she has already been caught in outright lies, I'm not sure she is the best source for what is actually happening behind closed doors. Like you, I hope this can be worked out. That being said, Kennedy needs to proceed in the best interests of UND. -

Or maybe UND could just select the floor design it prefers for The Betty and get a little better distribution of revenue generated from REA? Either or I guess. -

I'm going to assume something and I know that can be dangerous. My guess is that the University of Denver has chosen to use "Denver" rather than their logo of their own volition rather than having that choice dictated to them by the management of an arena. -
I was never the biggest Red Pepper fan, but I decided to take my business elsewhere when I saw a Red Pepper billboard in Fargo that said "Go Bison". That was a bridge too far for me.

I though maybe you were posting on a MN politics board at the same time. -

What's so frustrating about this article is the amount of conjecture required by those of us with limited knowledge of the situation. Why can't the Herald truly research the topic, ask the hard questions and supply the answers rather than writing an incomplete piece? You are right in asking for the local paper to do more. -

Sorry I'm confused. Who is Dayton? -
I was down there and it was certainly packed. Was quiet during the first couple acts starting at 5:00, but definitely picked up for the band before Hairball. It was full sidewalk to sidewalk for 1 and 1/2 blocks down third. We actually ended up watching from The Loft right next to the stage since we could open the window. Could not hear that well, but have seen them many times and it was preferable to trying to fight that crowd. Overall, it didn't appear that there were any issues with the crowd and I noticed there were even a couple kids (around 10) right at the front. They didn't seem to be having any problems. Crowd dispersed without issue in about 10 minutes. I really appreciated the sponsors bringing an event like this to GF and hope they do it again. It might have been preferable to use the Town Square because the crowd could have been spread out a bit move, but it was a great visual looking at the size of the crowd on Third. That picture in the Herald from earlier in the evening doesn't do justice to what it looked like during Hairball.

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)
HawksHoops replied to Cratter's topic in Community
http://www.inforum.com/sports/4247564-all-individual-sports-ndsu-und-lose-money-annual-financial-report-indicates This article from 4/7/2017 lists $10.4 M for non-specific athletics revenue for UND. That means it's revenue that is not tied directly to a sport (e.g. champion's club, merchandise, tv rights). If you offset the losses per sport with that revenue, UND athletics had a buget deficit of $1.4 M for the year. While we would all like to see this number in the black, it certainly isn't as bad as listing all the sports and their losses. Per the article, NDSU attributes some of their donations and merchandise sales to specific sports making them look more profitable on paper than UND's. -

I would add to that that FF is also considered a stellar person, so that wasn't the issue. If that's how Brew "takes charge", he's an even worse leader than I thought.

I think what you're saying is pretty accurate. I've never been a fan of Brewster as a coach and I'm hoping this program has a new direction in the near future. Basketball mediocrity at UND has been accepted for far too long.

The team really showed a lot in the second half. I had given up, but they didn't down 19 with 10:00 to go. Great Win! -

Watching live, I thought it should have been a clear path foul once Geno stole the ball. After seeing the replay there is no doubt that should have been called. It didn't end up hurting us, but the refs really missed that one. -

I can't wait to never have to watch a game on Pluto TV again. Pure and utter garbage. -

Agree with this. I think that's a heavy saturation in our area. The weekend slot should help and we may get some traveling to GF if the smaller venues all sell out. While the prices may seem high, if we want big acts to come to town, we probably have to pay the price.

I bought on the Spotify presale. I think the two ticket limit was only for the fan club presale, but I could be wrong. I guess if they cancel my order, I would have to find another option.

I bet those were amazing shows. Live music is hard to beat.
