I think the plan has always been 2 years of juniors for Croal so if they can avoid bringing him in I would guess they would and just find a guy in the portal.

Yup. I was told this yesterday and immediately started looking at portal D lol.

As far as D, one of the guys in the portal that ON PAPER would seem to hit all the boxes the coaches usually look for is Tanner Palocsik from Dartmouth. Captain, right shot, pretty good offensive stats, NCAA ice time leader. But I’m not sure about getting a kid from the Ivy League to come to UND. I would imagine once regionals are complete there will be more to choose from.

I think Kunz could be a third line guy.

Moe only has one. Persson and Haider have 2.

I also do not like Blake and Gaber together on a line for the exact reason you said.

He wasn’t healthy scratched once I don’t think. Wasn’t he out sick in those games he missed? I don’t think there’s any chance he goes in the portal. I’m actually not seeing many freshmen go in there. They usually give it until at least end of sophomore year.

He didn’t say he would necessarily without a doubt struggle. Or at least that’s my interpretation. Just that his defensive game is a work in progress. Which is kind of what I expect with a lot of freshmen.

I think with the right D partner he could have a really good season.

I know he ended up kind of buried but they did try him in the top 6 to start the season, but it just wasn’t working for whatever reason. I don’t even think he was playing bad. I wish I knew what happened there.

Yes. 19-20 the season was halted early due to Covid. 20-21 was the pod season with limited attendance at games and anyone who played that season gets an extra year.

I remember him from the BC league. He was a big scorer in the league. Seemed to be productive wherever he played after leaving BCHL. Good player.

Not sure where I wanted to put this. A Chilliwack player took a run at Hobie Hedquist this weekend. I saw a video of it on Twitter earlier. I tried to find it again but my search function isn’t working right now. It was pretty bad. That’s an exaggeration if I ever heard one.

It felt to me he would have a couple good games where you felt maybe he could be able to emerge as a future starter but then about the third game in a row he started would just be a complete stinker.

He played the most games of all four of their goalies so I’m not sure on what the reasoning is. He last played Feb 17th after a 7-3 loss to BC. He did shut out Denver earlier in the season, so there’s that.

Maybe we can even find a portal goalie with more than one season of eligibility…
