It’s been painfully obvious for some time now that this coaching staff is not up to the challenge. The second half of this game just adds the exclamation mark.

Brutal coaching at the end of the half. Why bother taking the timeout with 24 seconds left if you’re going to be such a pussy with the play call ?

Wake me up when we get a top flight QB. Until then the team will struggle to be a consistent winner.

Denver had 13 shots on goal. For the game. And somehow won. Has any team ever won an NC$$ tourney game before with this few shots ? Talk about a snooze fest.

Can’t pass, can’t shoot, undisciplined, horrible power play, bad penalty kill...can’t wait to see what Berry can do with the team next year.

Berry would make him a fourth line grinder.

A 1-0 loss in OT on Saturday would be a fitting ending to the season.

Our passing skills are pretty poor. The passing in the offensive zone is way too slow for a team that lacks snipers. By the time the player gets his shot off the goalie is in perfect position to make the easy save if the puck is on net. The goalie must love it every time they pass the puck from up high to the goalies right side. Pretty much no chance of scoring based on the speed of the pass and how long it takes the player to shoot. Very frustrating team to watch. Doesn’t seem to be any offensive development since the season started.

As long as Berry is the head coach UND should not bid on regionals. Just a complete waste of time.

Can’t really fault Gardner for the penalties anymore. He has consistently taken bad penalties throughout his career with no repercussions from the coaches. This problem should have been solved two years ago by benching him until he figures it out. The coaches have done nothing, in fact this year his gets a letter so he can lead by example. Poor coaching, poor leadership, and a lack of offensive skill (vision, passing, creativity).

Per Schloss, it would appear that the non conference games for next season are: Home: Manitoba (exh.) Bemidji State Canisius Alabama Huntsville Michigan Tech (1 game) Road: Minnesota Mankato State USNTDP under 18 (exh.) The home schedule looks less than inspiring. Not sure what the thought process is in scheduling both Canisius and Huntsville. They’re both usually bottom feeders in the pairwise so beating them is of no help while a loss is a killer (as we have seen this year). On top of that there is just no appeal to go see those teams play. I would much rather see them play almost any big ten or hockey east team.

Can anyone explain why Gardner is the captain ? Takes too many really stupid penalties, has for his entire career.

Impossible you say ? I hope you’re right but I’ll need to see it to believe it. If next years team doesn’t at least get over three goals a game then you have to sack Berry, buyout be damned. The hockey program is too important to let it be run into the ground.

Never been less impressed by a Denver hockey team yet we are going to finish behind them in the standings. Of course I haven’t seen a less impressive UND team in a long time.

Horrible play by Bast. He needs to take the body there. That just cannot happen at this level.

Unfortunately this years team is made up mostly of players that belong on a 3rd or 4th line. There are a few players with some offensive skill but they are not good enough to create on their own. They need to play with better players which we don’t have. This team is not very good passing the puck. Combine that with a lack of pure snipers and the opposing goalie doesn’t have to do much to keep them from scoring.

Is there any doubt left that Todd Anderson is the worst ref in all of college hockey ? When he is reffing you know it will be consistently f’d up. There is no doubt in my mind that the reviewed goal should have counted. If you’re not going to count it then get rid of review and just accept that mistakes are made. It is also without a doubt that St. Cloud was offsides entering the zone. Not even close, offside by two feet (was the linesman sleeping?). Was obvious watching live without any replay. So the the net result ended up the same but the referee crew made three mistakes on one play. Failed to call the offsides, were not in position to call the goal correctly, and then messed up the review. Awesome job !!!! Interesting how that overhead goal review was somehow not conclusive but somehow in the NC$$ regional two years ago the linesman could conclusively say UND was offsides using a end zone replay from 160 feet away. Talk about lack of standards. Watch Anderson’s demeanor during games when anyone questions him. He gets hostile immediately, just the opposite of what a ref should do. Very arrogant and very incompetent.

How has jones been able to keep his job this long ? What’s the issue with the athletic department ? Do they not care about the basketball program ? As a fan it is getting difficult to care. The only time the games really matter are during the conference tourney. We are so far away from ever having any chance of getting an at-large bid that it makes too many games irrelevant every season. At least for me, I need to see a team that is well coached, occasionally can pull off the upset against a major school, and every now and then is good enough that you could at least make a case for an at-large bid if they fail to win the conference tourney. That would get me more excited about the program. I don’t foresee any of this being possible with the current head coach. Making the NC$$ tourney once every eight years and then getting bounced out right away is just not good enough to build up a passionate fan base IMO.

The last three weekends we are 3-3 with two of the wins in overtime. The opponents are 52, 38, and 45 in the pairwise. Call them what they are, an average at best team. At this point in the season you should be getting better. I’m not seeing it. There is no reason to think anything will change for the better to allow this team to qualify based on pairwise. The hole is too big and the team just keeps digging. Their only slim hope is to win the conference tourney and there is little chance of that unless the defense and goaltending improve quite a bit.

Unfortunately that says it all. To be hoping for a split against a team that is somewhere in the 40-45 pairwise range when you have already dug a huge hole...let’s keep digging and hope for a miracle.

Losing even once to Canisius is bad enough but twice ? It’s not just puck luck. This team is just not very good. Maybe the worst offensive team in Sioux history. Sometimes it is puck luck. This is something beyond that.
