Not so good on offense

Nice defensive series to start the game.

Let’s say your team has record of 16-8 with 10 overtime games that were all lost in overtime. Your official record would then be 16-18. However, for pairwise your record is 20.5-13.5. I assume you would be ineligible for the tournament due to your official losing record. Conversely, if your record was 11-13 with 10 overtime games where you won each one your official record would be 21-13 while pairwise would say you are 16.5-17.5. Your are eligible for the playoff although unlikely to make it in. This teams fans will be upset that there team didn’t make the playoffs with a 21-13 record unless they really understand how it works. If they are going to value an overtime game as basically a tie then it should go in the official record as a tie. Use the result for the extra point in conference play if you want but it is silly and deceptive to call it a win (or loss).

We would’ve had two power plays if we didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot by taking penalties. Schmaltz’s face off violence penalty nullified a power play and then I believe Calder took a penalty when there was a delayed penalty coming up on Denver.

So the Vikings get the ball in OT after a turnover at their own 38. 1st down: Swing pass to Cook 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage, he’s able to gain two yards. 2nd and 8: running play is blown up for a loss of 2. 3rd and 10: of course Baltimore sends pressure and Cousins throws it away. Typically awful play calling by the Vikings lack of braintrust. How Zimmer, Kubiak, and Spielman can keep their jobs is beyond me.

With the rule changes this year they have effectively (for pairwise) created more tie games. The team that “wins” in overtime only gets 55% of a win. I much prefer the previous rules where you had a 5x5 overtime and if someone scored they actual get a 100% win. Now if your team is trailing by a goal in the last few minutes the best you can hope is to win in overtime and get a 55% win…basically a tie. They need to go back to the previous rules or give the 3x3 overtime winner something more meaningful like a 67% win. Just can’t get too excited watching the 3x3 when it means so little in the pairwise.

Not impressed with either team. If tonight was indicative of how these teams play this season then we saw a matchup of two teams that finish in the bottom half of their leagues.

Could be a 5 year guy if continues playing defense like this. I do suspect he’ll get his act together at some point this year. The sooner the better. The team as a whole is playing terrible in their own end.

Sanderson…brutal. Has the offensive talent, great skater, got a ways to go on defense.

Unfortunately this is not a one game aberration. Been pretty poor all season.

Season effectively over. Hopefully the end of Bubba coaching, but I doubt it.

Terrible call by the ref

When I watched it live it looked like the ref actually spotted the ball correctly and it was a half yard short of first down. No need to measure. If this was western with the ball and they stopped to measure I think everyone would have been pissed at the refs.

Bubba should be pissed at Bubba.

That last series explains in a nutshell why Bubba must go if UND is serious about football.

Unfortunately I have come to expect poor game management. Even by Bubba standards this was exceptionally poor.

When you get 1st and goal from the five (or closer) I want to see them run it. If the defense stops them with no gain (or a loss) then you want to spread it out and give the QB a run/pass option. Unfortunately one of our QBs can’t run it and the other can’t throw it.

Time for Q to come in and pass ?

Why do you complicate matters ? First and goal from the five and you bring in Q to throw ? WTF ? Just pound the ball there. Ridiculous.

Let’s see: Our defense has been poor to brutal, goaltending has been average, face offs have been poor, penalty killing has been questionable, passing is awful, our hobey baker candidate defenseman can’t defend, and our offensive skill is lacking. Not too sure what we have to build on, lots and lots of areas that need significant improvement. With a tough schedule coming up we need to correct this quickly or we may be out of the race for an at large tourney bid before January. Tomorrow’s game will be a very important indicator for this team. I expect a much much better effort and getting out of there with the split.
