Why is no one at Minnesota complaining about not playing North Dakota every year? Could it possibly be that North Dakota NEEDS Minnesota on the schedule while Minnesota simply feels it can just schedule another big-name opponent to replace the Sioux and no one will lose any sleep over that decision? And seriously, are people arguing why Minnesota could possibly want Notre Dame or Boston College on the schedule? Really? Who WOULDN'T want those two teams on their schedule?

Dislike X 1000. Go to a St Cloud State/UND game while wearing a black Sioux jersey and you'll blend into the crowd with 6,000 other people. Wear a green Sioux jersey to the X for a Final Five game against the Gophers and you'll be part of an avalanche of green pride. Go green...it's the right thing to do. That being said, I preferred the black jerseys from two seasons ago when the numbers were green outlined in white as opposed to white outlined in green like they are now.

It's not all Don Lucia's fault, folks. Don't think for one minute that Minnesota-Duluth, St Cloud State, Bemidji State and Mankato aren't all busy lobbying to keep Minnesota on the schedule as often as they can. Mankato even moved a HOME GAME last year to the Xcel Energy Center as a Maverick revenue-generator. The State of MN has always had a "Minnesota-first attitude" with respect to things and I for one am not surprised at all that UND will disappear from the Minnesota hockey schedule for probably quite some time. If you believe that Don Lucia is happy about playing North Dakota once every ten years or so, you probably also believe Dave Hakstol REALLY feels the Sioux nickname had to go.

Really? His team fared pretty well against UND last season. My guess is that the powers-that-be in Minnesota will certainly favor scheduling in-state teams like St Cloud, UMD, Mankato State and Bemidji State over UND. I spoke pretty clearly a while back on this board that those fans who expected to see the Gophers come to Grand Forks every year or every other year were dead wrong. And I was right. They'll be a non-conference opponent just like Maine, Michigan, or Boston University...and you'll see the U of M in Grand Forks once a decade...at best.

Imagine the uproar if this was 1995 and Colorado College, Denver, Minnesota, and Wisconsin all decided they wanted to go form their own conference...and leave UND behind. People who look at only the financial commitment to the program as a sure-fire sign of its future success are prety narrow-minded. You can't ignore the history of college hockey and pushing Michigan Tech to the back-burner is a mistake. That program is on the rise...and Mel Pearson and BIll Muckalt are the primary reasons why. The MacNaughton Cup is a classic...it's a shame it won't be around any longer as far as North Dakota is concerned.

...and you think Western Michigan, a school that has not advanced past the opening round of the NCAA hockey tournament since its inception in 1973, was a better choice? Don't give me the 'big school' WCHA argument since Michigan Tech's arena seats approximately 500 more people than Western's...

Had we invited Michigan Tech along to the NCHC, the MacNaughton Cup would have come with it. As for the Broadmoor Trophy, do you seriously think the 'new' one ISN'T an improvement over the original commissioned in 1981? My kid has trophies from 3rd-4th grade baseball bigger than that one! It certainly can't get any worse than the revised Cy-Hawk trophy (that has since been scrapped)...nothing says 'ESPN College Gameday' or 'Rivalry Game' better than a trophy of a farm family and a bushel basket of corn!

I'm just sayin'...they're a lot better to wear than something with 17 layers of stitched-on tackle-twill. That being said, I'd probably ditch a few "UNO"'s on the side or shoulders and that tacky "MAVS" on the back below the number. Any idea who made those? It wasn't Gemini, was it?

Even the biggest college football nerds I know refer to FCS as "Division One Double-A". Just because Congress passed a law creating FBS and FCS doesn't mean it's blasphemous to be old-school.

I think I recall hearing last spring during Miami's game against BC that either BC or BU has finished off Miami's season something like 7 years in a row. Now THAT'S heartache. EDIT: Miami has been eliminated by either BC or BU five times since 2006: 06: BC 07: BC 08: BC 09: BU 10: BC

I forgot one! 2009 Miami national championship against Boston University...Miami up 3-1 with 1:30 left in the game...at 19:01 BU scores...at 19:43 BU scores and sends the game into OT. 11:47 into OT...ballgame BU. Ouch.

I can't see a "U-N-D" chant becoming popular at all...at least not for a few years. Sioux jerseys will be around as long as the "old-guard" is around. Five to ten years from now when the "Monarch Butterflies" logo is stamped into UND and jerseys are sold all over, kids who are in fifth grade now won't have a clue who the Fighting Sioux are or were.

I walked behind some Nebraska-Omaha fans leaving the X last spring after the Sioux comeback against Minnesota. Both guys were shaking their heads and mumbling "unbelievable" back and forth to each other. One comment in particular summed it all up for me: "I don't know what it is about that jersey but they're just like the Detroit Red Wings and the pride they have wearing it...the players...they just refuse to quit...EVER. There's just SOMETHING about that crest."
