I know I have a reputation as a big Dave Hakstol backer (and I am), I do have to comment on adjustments made during that Michigan game. While UND outshot Michigan big-time, many of those shots were weak dump-ins and shots without any traffic in front. I also noticed that for the entire game (especially on the power play), the Sioux were content to dump the puck in and chase it around. Every time, those efforts were thwarted by Michigan's defense. Two nights later, I watched the UMD Bulldogs CARRY THE PUCK INTO THE ZONE on every power play they were on. Obviously Scott Sandelin was watching the Thursday night semi-final. I wondered in the 2nd and 3rd periods why UND didn't try something different. Like I said, I'm a big Hakstol backer (just ask passit_offthegoalie, he'll tell you), but that game in 2011 needed some coaching adjustments...and my opinion is they didn't happen.

It was indeed Friday in 2012! We'll find out soon what works for 2013.
-
I think it was switched either last year or two years ago to accomodate St Patrick's Day being on Saturday... I can be flexible to boost attendance... Edit: bumped the 2012 thread...it was indeed Friday last year.

Information will be posted soon. The correct spelling of the place is Hoggsbreath and it is in Little Canada, 7-8 minutes north and west of downtown St Paul. Did we do this last year on Friday or Saturday of the Final Five?
-
So you will drive 5 hours to see the last-ever Final Five as we know it...but another 15 minutes to an epic Hoggsbreath brunch is just too much?
-
I hope you know I was joking. There are a few Gopher fans over the past few years who have attended our Final Five brunch at the Hoggsbreath and you are more than welcome to attend this year.

In summary: Losing season = poor coaching. Winning season = good players, but still poor coaching.

I'm pretty sure Tony Hockey (sorry, couldn't resist) stayed out of the police blotter...and without the age of the internet, iphone, and youtube, any 'oops' moment wasn't promptly broadcast all over the hockey country for everyone to see. Kristo and Knight...no shot.

Like I said, make 3 out of every 4 shots and win by 2. if BHS shoots 50% from the floor, the Rattlers win by 20.
-
Fire Rodgers! Bring back Favre!

True story: 1986 Region 8 final...Belfield against Glen Ullin: The Rattlers had defeated New England by 40 the night before...New England was 4-0 against Belfield that season. Belfield shoots 75% from the field...and wins by 2. Local TV didn't bother sending anyone to come video tape the game since they assumed it would be a blow-out...and they scramble to find someone who did tape the game for some highlights. Someone from GU had recorded it...Belfield High School contacts Glen Ullin first thing Monday morning and requests a copy...no dice. Undefeated-on-the-season-and-ranked-#1 Glen Ullin promptly erased the tape after the game.

Well guilty or not, I'm STILL PO'd at Newburg. Kevin effing Bierman!
-
I apologize, I'm probably more responsible for that than anybody here. Back on topic: Should Tony Bina be fired or not?
-
GFG, you actually have some pretty well-thought out opinions on here and offer up some valuable information like you did above, I mean, some real intelligence, which is great. All of which begs the question...how on earth can you be a Gopher fan?

2014 and 2016 will be at the X...2015 and 2017 will be at the Joe.

Look at Class B boys basketball since lowly Dickinson Trinity dropped to Class B. The state tournament is a spring-time right of passage there.
-
Nope, Belfield finished 2nd. My school lost to Newburg 94-77 in the championship. Paul effing Demke...the kid made like 2 three-pointers all season long and then hits something like 6 or 7 of them in the title game. Hillsboro was also in the tournament...that's the other school I was missing. They lost to Watford City in the 3rd place game.
-
YOU CAN'T SAY THAT ON THE AIR!
-
I actually knew Carrington was in that tournament...just thought that they won their opening game and then lost to Newburg and then lost to Watford City in the 3rd place ame. Your post reminded me that I was actually in the stands for the Carringon vs Langdon 5th place game. Now I'm left to figure out who wound up 4th...
-
Oak Grove Grovers? Steele-Dawson Pirates? Langdon Cardinals? Hmnnn...I can't remember the other first-round loss team from that year.
-
Groan. Had Newburg beaten Linton in either the 1984 or 1985 title games, I have no doubt my high school would have won the whole thing in 1986.
-
Not me personally...I was 7 years old at the time. Bonus points if anyone can answer what the high school was and what their co-op name is now.
-
Oh, come on...every kid's a winner and everyone gets a participation medal, right?
-
I'm assuming you mean Epping = North Dakota Hoosiers...but they weren't quite Hickory High. I'm not from there...but my high school also lost to Hillsboro in the state B boys basketball championship game. EDIT: Actually, my high school lost to Larimore in the 1978 title game and lost to Hillsboro in I believe the 1st round of the 1982 tournament.

1954? Wow, bakka, I thought I was an old-timer from the '80's! Nice to see that it's not all 18-20 year olds on here. How would you compare Hakstol's coaching to others you have watched? I'm curious to know... BTW...Epping High School?
