The hit is also pictured on pages 80 and 81 of the 'Fight on Sioux' publication. I saw DeFauw line up the BU player from my seat in the Bradley Center and jumped out of it. He absolutely smoked the guy.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Two favorite Sioux moments: Peter Armbrust putting in the rebound OT winner in the '97 Final Five and Brad DeFauw absolutely blowing up a Boston U player with a check in the national championship game a few weeks later in Milwaukee. THE BEST TEAM WON!

1988's!

Bettman was hired to facilitate the southern expansion. Yes, the owners already had visions of expansion fees dancing thru their heads when he arrived. I was specifically referring to the Quebec, Hartford, Winnipeg, and Minnesota franchises all heading southward. It is absolutely inexcusable in my eyes to let Winnipeg and Minnesota lose franchises...and then put teams back in those cities again. They should have never been allowed to leave in the first place. Nashville doing just fine? Their former owner now owns the Wild and in 2007, a group tried to buy the team and move it to Hamilton Ontario, something promptly thwarted by Bettman himself. Norm Green sold the Stars 15 minutes after the team touched down in Dallas (figuratively, not literally). If the sole intent of moving the team was to immediately sell it (and it was, along with escaping that nasty little sexual harassment suit in Minnesota), Bettman should have 86'd the move from the get-go. Hell, Bettman fought harder to keep the Thrashers in Atlanta than he did to keep the North Stars in Minnesota! Florida, Tampa Bay, and Phoenix could all either be disbanded or moved immediately and the league would be better off for it. Bettman could redeem himself by forcing the sale of the New York Islanders instead of what appears to be their eventual move as well.

The class of '96-97 won two.

REALLY? What other opinions do several students have these days?
-
W...T...F? LOL!
-
That would be an issue, especially being in the same division...
-
I count 54 as well (College Hockey News app) and note that 13 of 54 total came in November in 7-2 and 6-1 wins over Michigan and Bowling Green, respectively. Somewhere, Rick Comley is smiling...
-
Why won't that work? If an NHL team comes to town, the minor league team will for-sure move. Seattle could keep the name and just pole-vault from WHL to NHL status.
-
Yes, they play in Kent, just north of Seattle. The owners of the now Winnipeg Jets wanted to re-name the Atlanta Thrashers the Manitoba Moose, but fan support for a return of the Jets was simply too overwhelming for them to ignore. Seattle might not have the same 'problem' as there really is no former NHL team to look back upon. Also, bonus points for Thunderbirds logo and colors keeping Seattle Seahawk scheme.
-
I do like Thunderbirds...but the OKC Thunder still gives Seattle a bad taste in its mouth. It would be kind of like an NHL team moving to Cleveland...and calling itself the Ravens.
-
Great jersey...but Thunderbirds is a far better nickname. I doubt Seattle fans would want that name back though, especially hockey fans who also loved the NBA SuperSonics.
-
You didn't count the Windsor exhibition game, did you? Also, 7 of that total came in ONE GAME against Michigan a few weeks ago (7-2 win). EDIT: Michigan game was November, not a few weeks ago.
-
One of the all-time great NHL logos...the igloo with the hockey stick. Denver is a good hockey market...but the Quebec Nordiques leaving is still an NHL travesty.
-
Why not? Illinois and Minnesota have seemingly already folded their football programs, maybe that could be expanded upon?
-
...and Michigan STATE?
-
How bad is it? I think Michigan State's SOCCER team scored more goals this season than its hockey team.

Fixed your post.

Anaheim is 30 minutes from LA...Calgary 3 hours from Edmonton...not unprecedented with 2.5 hours and an international border between Vancouver and Seattle. Also, back then, Canadian teams were required to pay their players in American dollars...but their revenues were obviously in Canadian dollars. I believe a revenue-sharing plan was put in place sometime after Winnipeg's move to help alleviate that particular issue. It was Bettman's dream to expand to the south...now it's a nightmare.

FAN VOTE: Greatest Sioux Jersey Ever Tournament!
MafiaMan replied to Big A HG's topic in Men's Hockey
Like X 1000. Black jerseys are over-rated. Clearly a bunch of 18 year olds voting multiple times. -
Take this for what it's worth, but I've spoken personally to several players over the past couple of years...and they all ADAMANTLY DENY even looking at siouxsports.com.

In 33 years at Duke, Coach K has won 4 national titles, an average of 1 about every 8 years (nevermind that 90-91 and 91-92 were back-to-back). using that logic, UND is due...STAT.
-
I know I have a reputation as a big Dave Hakstol backer (and I am), I do have to comment on adjustments made during that Michigan game. While UND outshot Michigan big-time, many of those shots were weak dump-ins and shots without any traffic in front. I also noticed that for the entire game (especially on the power play), the Sioux were content to dump the puck in and chase it around. Every time, those efforts were thwarted by Michigan's defense. Two nights later, I watched the UMD Bulldogs CARRY THE PUCK INTO THE ZONE on every power play they were on. Obviously Scott Sandelin was watching the Thursday night semi-final. I wondered in the 2nd and 3rd periods why UND didn't try something different. Like I said, I'm a big Hakstol backer (just ask passit_offthegoalie, he'll tell you), but that game in 2011 needed some coaching adjustments...and my opinion is they didn't happen.
