I heard from a friend of mine whose dad's uncle's ex-wife was at the game and he said the Sioux seniors were a total disappointment on Saturday night and needed to play harder.

All kidding aside, the River Hawks are a solid team. Their coaching staff has done an excellent job over the past two seasons. That win over Miami in last year's NCAA tournament was no fluke.

The Gwozzer had four legitimate gripes last night...goal waived off, Gopher goal that looked like it was kicked in, Minny penalty not called followed immediately by Gopher power play (and 2nd goal), and icing not called that led directly to 3rd goal...

The homer broadcast crew brushed over it pretty quickly too. DU player took a stick below his chin which put him flat on his back....then the back of his head hit the ice. He looked pretty wobbly as he left the ice. Also, the third goal was scored on what should have been an icing call. Officials ruled that puck hit a player at the blue line before bouncing off the boards but it clearly did not. Doug McLeod, watching the game with his maroon goggles on, promptly noted that 'those breaks even up eventually in a long season'. The one they scored on last night was HUGE though. I'm still looking for an injury update on DU's leading scorer. The back of his head slammed onto the ice pretty hard...not a penalty at Mariucci these days I guess.

Agree X 100. I distinctly recall one Michigan player practically slap-shotting a puck from center ice up about 20 rows in the stands...still at center ice! If that's not delay-of-game, I don't know what is.

Last night's game winner was a PP goal by Bjugstad about a minute or two after a Gopher flattened DU's leading scorer with a stick to the neck (refs missed that call, though, of course).

I am very surprised by that as SCSU simply needed a win to claim a share of the title PLUS they were at home. Maybe a nice send-off by the WCHA to not even have it on-hand last night should a soon-to-be NCHC team win it?

That's a long ways away yet but the Wolverines seem to have that maize and blue swagger back.

I've been to two Final Fives at the Target Center. Gluek's and other bars there are packed with Friday pm suits who left the office early for the day. The average joe on the street won't have any idea what kind of sport your hockey jersey represents let alone what teams are playing. And INSIDE the Target Center? Let's just say you will miss the X.
