I think your last paragraph outlines perfectly how most NDSU fans feel about this game. I believe it’s going to take UND beating NDSU for NDSU fans to truly feel like the rivalry is back.

That is a time long-gone. We could go 7-4, with losses to UND, SDSU, UNI and USD, eek into the playoffs and if NDSU somehow got on a run and won the championship after that regular season, the fan base would only be more excited about it. ”Even on our down years, we still know how to win when it really counts” would be the narrative out of Fargo.

I couldn’t care less if the players know about the history between NDSU and UND. I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one.

Why wouldn’t you want that player? The history between NDSU and UND in football happened mostly before they were born. I don’t require my favorite team’s players to be historians to be on my team. Not that they ask me about recruiting

Why is the obvious distinction I’m making in this conversation being ignored? To the players!!!!!! I don’t believe they see it as a rivalry...yet.

I bet if you asked your teammates from ND what it meant the first time, they’d have a different answer.

I agree, this needs to be a trophy game. Best outcome for me, bring back the Nickle, but if that can’t happen, let’s start a new tradition with a new trophy.

I disagree with rivalries being more for the fans. If you’ve played in a true rivalry game, it’s much, much different on the field.

Describe why NDSU and UND football players on the current team have any reason to think this is a rivalry? Nobody on the current team played in the 2015 game and they were all in diapers the last time this game meant something. Rivalry doesn’t just mean “big game”.

Is it a rivalry...I would say it depends on who you ask. Old guys like me who grew up in ND and had people I grew up with, played HS football with and/or against on the opposite sideline, knowing I would see them back home over the holidays and have to hear all about it for a year if we lost. Yeah, that’s a rival to me. But nobody on the current teams has experienced anything near that for almost 20 years. These kids were barely born the last time this game really meant something. Give it a few years and it’ll be back for the players too. But for now, I believe what coach Entz says is genuine, the players just don’t see it as a rivalry yet.

Butler was trash, everybody knows it. Another poster stated he was unhappy with how our defense looked. So I responded with our defensive drives. You somehow think that is me bragging up the performance against a trash team. This isn’t true and you would know that if you had read along as I said.
