We run 4 cameras for in-house Air Force productions. During the 1st game of the year against an FCS team, the game is generally not televised so we are responsible for replays for the official crews. Our football production sucks compared to upper level FBS teams, but it is better than the company that does freelance for CSU and Wyoming. The biggest cost is going to be the video board, as a school can put together a setup similar to ours for only a couple hundred thousand. However, if they want to show it in stadium, then the cost will be more than 1 mil for any quality sort of board.

As someone who sees MWC teams in and out every week, I think it's comical you put SDSu in the same category as Idaho and Fresno State. Fresno is up this year but compared to last year's team SDSU is significantly better than Fresno was. UND lost by 8 to SDSU, one of 6 teams to not only beat but dominate CSU. Yet you still don't feel that UND would be able to beat CSU this year? The same UND who handled Sacramento State, who also beat the only team CSU won. I'm not big on comparing scores but so far the only reason you've shown that UND wouldn't have beat CSU is because UND hasn't won a game against an FBS team.
-
That's basically what I'm getting from Bison06. And because NDSU has beaten an FBS team, they will beat all FBS teams.

Atlantic hockey does not use video replay. Right now, Air Force is the only atlantic hockey team that has video. There is no replay system in Atlantic hockey.

Your use of stats is great, as it shows how successful NDSU has been against the FBS teams they have played. However, there realisiticly is no way to tell whether NDSU have beat any, some or all of the teams UND played. Really, based on NDSU's schedule and results to this point, it's tough to tell if NDSU is actually as good as advertised. They certainly have beat some teams by a large margin but we are now seeing some of those teams aren't as good as originally thought. Youngstown State is the only team that has an above .500 record and could be NDSU's only win against team with a winning record this year, even while making the playoffs. My main point, which I drifted from above, is that you use "already having an FBS win" to justify why NDSU will win agaisnt other FBS teams. NDSU being better than the mostly crappy FBS teams they've played is why NDSU beat those teams, not because a team 5 years ago beat Minnesota. NDSU beat a team that is the red headed stepchild of the MWC (one of the many this year.) Having watched CSU in person twice this year and watching every UND game on tv, I feel confident that UND could beat them as well. UND will one day get an FBS win but until that point, none of their previous games against FBS teams will have any affect on the game.

Unfortunately option 2 isn't a reality. When doing big productions like this, the crews trust their equipment more than any in-house stuff. If there is an issue with any of the gear, they know how to fix it, where the issue is, etc. If they are mixing and matching equipment, it becomes a big hassle.

I don't think it's that. I think it's more of wondering why they should pick up a network based out of Denver that has shown one UND sporting event. I think they will have the rights to a UND/DU game in February as well, but other than that are people going to watch? I don't think anyone will watch outside of UND games. If the demand is there, great. Regardless, the cost of picking it up will be passed on to the consumer.

Unless you've been good in the past like UNI, or if you beat: 2-5 Robert Morris 1-6 CSU 2-5 Prairie View 4-3 Youngstown 2-5 UNI 1-6 USD Ive heard 1-3 in the MVFC is equivalent to 4-0 in every other league, so those are still "somebody good."

Correct. In Colorado, there is now Root Sports and Altitude. Root replaced FSN-RM and airs Rockies games. Altitude carries Avs and Nuggets games.

POLL: Should UND-NDSU Resume the Football Series?
southpaw replied to ShilohSioux's topic in Football
They may not win more games, but you would think they would have to travel less for OOC games. I'd imagine the MWC would also be in that 2nd tier, so there are a lot more busable games for both of those teams. -
He won't need to tackle since he'll have the ball with all those inerceptions
-
Nope, you're correct. Air Force scheduled two FCS teams last year, meaning they needed 7 wins to be bowl eligible.
-
No, we would be at #8 and tied for #21 overall if we were undefeated.

Weekly odds that the game is broadcast nationally.
southpaw replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I'm not happy about that either as I relied on FCS to watch all home games. However, that is 350 days away. UND knows how important the national exposure is to both the program and the fans. UND has been on the front end of getting their sports broadcast nationally and I have faith they will expand the agreement with CBSSN to something similar to Root Sports and the BSC. P.s. Don't be so dramatic. UND hockey isn't gone permanently if nothing changes in the next year. -

The contract isn't even in effect yet, but you say it's damaging the nationwide exposure? Give it some time and something can likely be worked out. There is still a full year before it goes into effect. Wow... You have two completely different problems in this post. One is about the regionality of the broadcasts. That has absolutely nothing to do with Midco and everything to do with FCS deciding to not air football, volleyball, etc. You're forgetting that every home hockey game (except the U18 exhibition) is scheduled to air nationally on FCS. That sound pretty regional to me... The other issue is the picture and broadcast quality. Mido may not be new to producing sports, but some of the crew is new to working together. They have a new producer who is very familiar with college sports and even attended UND, however there is a learning curve to putting on live tv. Feel free to spout how you think this year sucks compared to the past, but realize that the crew from the past had been doing live sports for a dozen years. The quality of Midco will pick up once all the bugs are figured out. Don't compare the first few games this year to the last few games of last year... it's completely unfair. Compare the first couple games of FSSN to the Midco games and they're a lot closer than you expect. Midco will figure out how to get into all of the smaller cable systems. The producer, director and camera operators will get on the same page and things will be much smoother. I produce and direct live sports for a much bigger audience than UND hockey, I know how many things need to go right to make a good production. Swapping out just one camera operator can change the quality of the entire broadcast. Throw in trying to send the signal out to several companies (and them properly receiving it) and it's more than understandable that there are technical issues early on. Be patient. I'm outside of the Midco market too and am disappointed I can't watch the games... but I know that it will improve and get better. Plus, UND sucks the first half of the year, so it's practically not even worth watching til January -

Let's hear it how difficult the MVFC is. and the Big Sky is down this year. Discuss. -

Regardless of whether people make their dissatisfaction know, the broadcasts are going to continue to improve. As a very, very experienced sports producer and director, I know what it takes to put on an excellent show. The company, Midcontinent knows how to put together good broadcasts. The new staff (even though some of them are the same people from WDAZ) will take some time to gel. The camera people will soon know what shots they need. The director will soon know they can trust those camera people. The replay people will know how to fully operate the systems. The announcers will understand the names and will continue to research the history of the team. The production team will understand the best way to send out the signal to both local companies and FCS. It takes some time to get all of the pieces together. I hope you're criticizing the team as much as Midco, because UND is nothing like they've been in the past. That doesn't mean they won't be better than last year. It just takes time to put everything together and make sure everyone knows their job and how to do it well. The broadcasts will get better. Don't compare it to other schools because it's nothing like other schools. -
That call on 3rd and 1 with the deep pass and then not going for it on 4th and 1 was a horrible decision. I said it before the punt went to the 1. Our D can't stop $hit and our offense was moving fairly well, even with the run to that point. You gotta go for it, push it to at least a field goal and take the lead back.

A step back for what will ultimately be a step forward. It was going to take a long time for WDAZ to broadcast in HD. Midco will be there in a year or two. Remember that Sweeney has been following UND hockey closely for 20+ years. It's going to take some time for Hammer and company to get some familiarity with the team and with the production techniques. Very few people know how much work it takes to make a seamless live sport broadcast for 3 hours. They will undoubtedly figure it out, learn from mistakes and progress. Settle the f down people. It will get better and you'll have a much better feed and production than WDAZ would be able to provide. -
I love that all of the games are streamed online, home and away. Whether they are crappy feeds or not, it is great for those of us out of state. I haven't missed a game this year and am stoked to see the team once again at UNC.

3-0 sweep. Pretty good for a team who doesn't look like they are any good either.
-
Listening to the radio, the fans get much louder when UND scores compared to NDSU. Great to hear the fan turnout! 1,413 fans at the game... 10th largest attendance in NDSU Vball history.
-
6 point run to end set 2 for UND to take the 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win.

We all got our hopes up after Hendrickson shined vs Portland and SDSU and we outplayed Sacramento. Just like Youngstown, it seems we played way better in the first couple games but once people saw some film, everyone realized we aren't as good as advertised. It's not to say we're bad, just not quite good all around. We need better D more than anything. The frustrating thing for us is that D is our pride and we haven't played well. You're pretty good at taking shots at UND even whilte drunk.

Does he need the injury if he's not 100%? I think it's a good idea to keep him out if we're down 31. Although, I don't like us punting on 4th and 1.
