Dorgan went out on his own terms, which was smart. With Hoeven in the race, his odds of winning were a coin flip at best. Better to go out as you want rather than the Pomeroy exit! Conrad...he's got 2 more years with our current C & C running the country. He's odds probably wouldn't be any better in two years from now either. Call your own shots and go out on your own terms.
-
Yes, he was. And what has also been obvious is there is no one UND has played so far that can match up physically with Malone or Frattin. Been a long time since UND has had 2 skilled forward that also absolutely dominate physically. This line will be the line that carries this team from here on out IMO. They are a complete physical mismatch for any other line I've seen so far in college hockey this year.
-
The 3 amigos of ND. Pomeroy was defeated for a reason. The other 2 amigos just saw the writting on the wall IMO.
-
Will be good to see Dan back on TV in our local market. All the other TV sports guys are brutal for the most part. He'll be the best out there for sure.
-
KVLY making room for Stephanie Goetz! See her at the gym from time to time...smokin' hot!
-
I believe the potential title of Senator will trump potential title of Governor. He, IMO, would win either race...a senate seat will be too tough to pass up.
-
If true, I'd put my money on Drew Wrigley filling his vacancy.

Are you serious...have you seen either of these teams play this year. To me turning the corner doesn't mean going from awful to just plain bad. So beating an absolutely piss poor Tim Brewster led Goph's FB team holds more water than winning a/multiple D1 nat'l championships? People that I know talk about those game in a sense of how pathetic the U of M FB team was vs. anything special about USD or NDSU. NDSU beat Kansas this year...why? Kansas sucked. Most people see those game for what they really are...decent FCS teams beat horrible FBS teams.
-
First of all, what does scheduling hockey teams with full FBS status have to do with the equation? Oh that's right nothing... If you think WI, U of M, Ohio State, ect..., would rather go to Bowling Green than come play at the Ralph? Wow! UND has at no point in time had any problems finding quality teams from outside the WCHA to come to play at the Ralph. You underestimate what UND is to the landscape of college hockey year in and year out. BTHC or not...that isn't going to change.
-
UND will continue to be a hockey school, regardless of the BTHC...if it happens. The rivalries between UM and WI will not go away and I highly doubt that UND would not get either of those schools to come to the REA for games even if a BTHC exists. If UND continues to compete for a NC year in and out, interest will always by high. To the point that hockey interest will diminish because UND FB and BB might play Montana, USD, NDSU, UM or WI is almost laughable. The FB and BB teams need to put a decent product on the field/court to attract interest...playing a "big time" program and getting it handed to you doesn't and won't peak anyone's interest.
-
I expect UND to sweep, but not by those scores. One thing about the WCHA is the 2nd go around the scoring tends to be lower as games tighten up defensively for the most part. Friday's loss to the Gophers was an early 2nd half wake-up call and couple that with the stunning Sat. night loss in Omaha, I like the Sioux both nights. 4-1 and 3-2 UND.
-
To me, it's just this simple...NDSU FB hosts it's 1st playoff game in 20 years and the same weekend UND hockey has a non-conference series. It's Thanksgiving weekend so BOTH school's students are gone. UND hockey draws as many fans BOTH nights as does the playoff game at the Dome.
-
What does that question have to do with this conversation/discussion? Aren't we talking about a team...not a sport? From a statewide argument, the "following"...hardcore to casual...of UND hockey trumps any other team following IMO.
-
NDSU is a football school. UND is a hockey school. IMO those who follow college FB in this state have a bigger interest in NDSU FB than UND FB. Game attendence says something at well. Maybe it is SU's recent success or UND's lack thereof. But again, UND hockey is still, by far IMO, the most followed college team sport in the state.

Agree with Davidson...big, strong and smart. Mario is more than solid, but without Davidson with Mario and Rodwell puck possession is limited on that line. Davidson, as some have said, is an X factor and I agree with that. And what's the deal with Cichy? A few week ago, one could argue he was one of our better forwards. The Gleason at forward thing I didn't get the 1st time it happend and definately didn't get it the times after that. I could see Marto at forward with Hexy and JG out, but with them back Marto needs to be back at D IMO, especially with Forbort looking shakey at best the last 2 weekends. Hextall is and always will be a wildcard for this team. You can tell within his 1st 2 or 3 shifts whether you are going to get a skilled kid playing on edge or a player that quickly falls off the edge into stupid, undisciplined play.

Like most guys, we've all wished we would have heard that more often ...just not from a sister! Sioux sweep!!! GO PACK GO!
-
I have tickets in Sec. 110 and have friends coming from western ND so I'm looking for 4 more tickets in lower level, preferably close to section 110. Anyone willing to help me out, PM me. Thanks.
-
I did hear that on the way home...suprised me too.
-
Totally agree...when he plays, he is the "it" factor in most the games. Without him, the 4th line has been almost no exisitent. The kid, with Rodwell and Mario, was a terrific line on Friday. No offense to Gleason, but his forward days need to end as of last night. Watch out for Kristo this weekend...he torched the Goph's last year and he has been playing way too well not to bust out. IMO he is the real key this coming weekend.
-
Unless UND plays like they did last night, I see UND getting minimum of 3 points. The significance of this series, the only one between the 2 this year, won't be lost on the senior leadership on this team. They were sleeping walking last night and got away with it, but I expect a different looking team for 120 minutes next week. UND will take penalties because UM is so soft and weak, but UND PK will be solid. 5-2 UND Fri. and 2-2 Sat.
-
Ummmmm...in this case the shoe does fit, so carry on!
-
Ditto...why bother with replay at this point. To constantly blow obvious calls is getting too embarrassing to witness weekend after weekend.
-
Best rivalry in college hockey! It's going to be fun!!!
-
I must have been at a different game because other than the 4 minutes late in the 3rd, UND didn't dominate for any real stretch IMO. The SOG thru the 2nd period were ever misleading. That is as sloppy and uninspired as I've seen a UND team play in awhile. Let's make this point clear, RMU is a very bad team. They would compete with UAA and Tech for the WCHA basement. Dell was the only player that gave a solid effort IMO, but this team has so much talent that a 4 minute stretch in the late 3rd period won the game. Outshot 17-5 at home in the 3rd! The Gleason at forward experiment has to come to an end as well. That 4th line was useless compared to when Davidson was in there the night before. Where is Bruno or Cichy?? I keep harping on it, but how good of a shot does Frattin have? It's just sick! Good to great team teams find ways to win even when they probably shouldn't. Last night effort almost beat talent because talent didn't work real hard.

Few observations from being at the game: 1) No student section and a poor quality opponent=no energy in the Ralph. But kind of figured that would be the case. 2) McWilliams is quietly developing into our best defensive D-man...he was great last night. 3) With the woodshed beating taking place, was impressed with Dell's focus and concentration. That's what seperates him from BE. 4) Even though Kristo isn't scoring, his overall game just continues to get better IMO. 5) Hexy's shorty was a snipe, but him being on the ice make everyone he plays with better.
