It's not even a question in my mind that Hrynkiw has passed Cam on the depth charts. Matt definitely seems more in control than Cam had looked in his time in net.

Does a dominated goal differential lead to championships?
Big A HG replied to bigskyvikes's topic in Men's Hockey
I would say it's much harder to quantify college's numbers in the last ten years (or ever really). In the NHL, the best-of-seven game series' make a huge difference in terms of identifying the truly better team, unlike in the NCAA. Win four games, on usually neutral ice, against teams you likely haven't played against all year, and you win an NCAA Championship. In the regular season, having a sample size cut in half, against only a fraction of all the opponents across the country is going to skew the numbers greatly. Throw in the tournament parity, and I'd guess you'd have an interesting mix of results. -
University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season
Big A HG replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
" Nick Schmaltz (forward, 19, 1st round in 2014) had a mixed week. He had moments where he shined and displayed his quick hands and immense offensive skill. There were other moments where he disappeared. He didn’t create many offensive opportunities in the scrimmages. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman and others from the organization spoke highly of Schmaltz’s play throughout the week, but Schmaltz was also described as “having a long ways to go.” He will be a sophomore at North Dakota next year." --Scott Powers, ESPN Chicago blog Despite it being an ESPN affiliation, the Blackhawks blog on there is top notch. From the same article.... "Luke Johnson (forward, 20, 5th round in 2013) just never stops working and was active throughout the camp." -
I'll preface my answer to the question by saying the Big Ten will never offer any ND school without very significant change. The B1G is trying to expand its footprint into areas that generate more media revenue for the conference, particularly out east. North Dakota, despite having UND and NDSU, largely follows the Big Ten from a power conference standpoint already, so has little to gain by expanding conference membership here, especially without a large population base. With that said, if UND was ever offered the opportunity, take it. No doubt about it. The revenue that the Big Ten creates would easily help pay for a lot of that money over the years. IIRC, the Big Ten has the most revenue of any P5 conference despite other conferences being typically a bit stronger in most sports these days.

Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong
Big A HG replied to Hammersmith's topic in Other Sports
I have a couple questions about the surveys: 1) How many surveys are handed out, and to whom are they given to? 2a & 2b) How many students who responded "Varsity" as their preferred level of competition would it take to require NDSU's Athletic Department to support that sport at the varsity level? If eight female students responded to the survey wishing they offered varsity tennis (which would be enough to field a team), at this point wouldn't NDSU be required to add the sport, even if the overall percentage of students who responded the same was quite low? -

#00 is just a placeholder, I'm sure of it. I was thinking the feathers could also be a nod to one of the potential nickname options with a backup explanation of it being tied to the Sioux name.

Last new idea....and a last ditch effort to keep the Sioux logo alive. First step is to choose "NoDaks" as our nickname. As much as I don't care for the name, it plays into my way of keeping the logo. But, what is a NoDak? We all know the answer, but it's generic. It's such a broad stroke for a very diverse state of people. My idea would expand on this nickname. Here's how... Each athletic team would choose one of a number of major groups of people in the state, but modern and historic, and from men to women. The baseball team could be a soldier from a cavalry, the track team construction workers (male and female versions), the football team a [bison] hunter (thanks Tim!), etc.....Vikings, nationalities, construction workers, fishermen and hunters, etc, could all be represented. The possibilities are endless. We're all NoDaks! And our hockey team would represent the Spirit Lake Sioux, by using the Sioux logo (any non-participating tribes would not be represented). Each team would get to choose each year whom they'd like to represent with no regard to gender, race, etc... Call me desperate!

Blais was an assistant for five years at UND under Gasparini, left, then came back as a head coach. Either way, he's a Gopher alum.
-
Dane's not going anywhere.
-
Just like Blais, right? If you can get Osiecki, you get Osiecki.
-
Mark Osiecki anyone? Mark coached one year (1996-97...a good year!) at UND, has experience at all levels of hockey from USHL to NHL, is a defensive specialist, and is currently an assistant in the AHL....hardly a glorious spot to have landed in after getting snubbed at OSU.
-
Each has lost one title game is an easier way to put it. Hakstol 0-1 Blais 2-1 Gasparini 3-1 May 1-1 etc. Those who didn't coach in a title game still count by the way he worded it. Thorndycraft was 1-0. Hakstol continued that trend.

He'll gently set it on the dasher and take a selfie.

I can see Jordan staying another year to possibly head to Chicago with his brother. Not only does playing with his brother become a possibility, but he ends up only a couple hours away from his home in Wisconsin in both Rockford (AHL) and Chicago (NHL). Not only that, the Blackhawks are short on young, up-and-coming two-way d-men. Plus, he joins a Stanley Cup capable team immediately. Makes a ton of sense.

It's your jersey to do with as you please. I have no qualms about it. But, I'm going to put it in a way that may explain the feelings of others who also collect game-used jerseys, or other similar collectibles. To many of us it'd be like saying "Hey, I like the Constitution, but I'd really LOVE the Constitution if it said 'We the Dog Lovers' instead of 'We the People', so let me take this handy eraser and make a quick fix." It's just something that is probably for the best not to do because now you can't change it back and ever have it be the same. If it was a retail jersey and not a game-worn jersey, I don't think you'd see anyone have any complaints because it doesn't have any history attached to it. I have no complaints with what you did as it is your right to do what you did, but just thought I'd try to explain it in a way that made a little sense on where some of the folks are coming from.

Ralph Engelstad Arena needs one more green authentic Nike jersey. They are willing to pay top dollar for it. Please help out if you can! It is going into the new Jersey Hall and will be the last jersey needed to complete the hall! If you can help out or are interested in knowing more, please contact me or Jason at the Sioux Shop. This green jersey is not going to me or any other collector, but rather will be customized and put directly into the glass case for all the players, recruits, alumni, coaches, etc to see and walk past everyday. Thank you! If you have any white or black Nike authentic jerseys, I'd be interested personally. Also, I'm looking for any vintage Sioux jerseys you may have and interested in potentially selling. Even if you're not sure you'd like to sell, I'd love to hear what you have. siouxjersey@gmail.com

I'm sure if you donated a figure in the 9-digit mark to the university, you could have any number retired you wanted.

With how much emphasis is placed on head safety in all sports as of late, I'd guess that the NHL would mandate full shields before the NCAA ever allowed 3/4 shields. Do I agree that full shields are safer? Not necessarily. It's hard to say for sure as there are opinions both ways. But, we all know logic rare prevails in today's society so when lawyers get involved, I wouldn't be shocked to see the NHL go with full shield. At one time players didn't wear helmets at all. Then there were teeny-tiny helmet-like things that likely did next to nothing. Next came something that actually looked like a helmet. Starting last season, the NHL now mandates at least a shield for all new players entering the league. The trend is more equipment, not less, and I don't see the NCAA ever changing that.

Top 10 Moments in Sioux History since 2000
Big A HG replied to fight on sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
All the above are great moments, but just to add a couple: --The Kozek-led Hat Trick comeback against Mannino and Denver. --The electric weekend UND throttled Kangas and Minnesota. Those probably wouldn't be Top Ten moments in 15 years of Sioux hockey, but were certainly a couple among the loudest times I've heard REA in the Hak era. From just a pure "moment" standpoint, and I can't say I was there, the first home games after Ralph passed I'm guessing are way up there. -
No. Adidas bought Reebok a few years ago. But, Adidas also owns CCM. If they don't want the Reebok name anymore, they'll use CCM. They've already slowly started rebranding AHL jerseys from Reebok to CCM. The only reason you saw the Adidas name on some of the jerseys was for brand cohesion along all University uniforms.
