I like the idea of UNO going Summit League/Great West. In reference to your comments about UNO. As with UND, they now have new management. I have been very impressed with Trev A. Let's see in less than 6 months on the job. He has moved his hockey program to WCHA for free, hired the third or fourth best college hockey coach in the US (a coach that was not looking to go to UNO NOTE: This included motivating alum to pay the salary.) Now, he has the school talking about Div I and has approval from UNL to do it. Many said UNO to Div I was not possible because of UNL. All this in 6 months. I don't think this is your dads UNO. You have to admit that UNO has a lot of upside. Omaha also has a strong history of hosting NCAA events. I can see Summit League mens and womens tournments and WCHA final 5 or 6 being hosting in Omaha. I see lots of opportunities for UNO. It will be interesting.

I guess it comes down to MVC determining if they are basketball conference or an all sports conference. I think the days of stringing schools along are coming to a head. I am sure several schools will be asking those questions and acting accordingly. Reading the MVC recent actions as noted in my first post. I think that an all sport conference may have been the direction. But the changes in the economy may have changed that for the conference. The other thing to remember about this is the recent RPI changes for basketball. I believe those changes specifically addressed how MVC got 4 bids to the NCAA a couple of years ago. So, it will be much more difficult for MVC or any mid major conference to get multiple bids in the future.

Your statements seems a bit odd to me given a couple of points. 1) The Missouri Valley Conference helped lead the charge in renaming 1-AA to FCS because of the precieved advantages in recruiting for basketball. 2) In addition, the Missouri Valley Conference extended its name for the MVFC to help with the conferences image on a national scale for recruiting in basketball. NOTE: They only have 5 schools playing football, but get all the advantages of having a FB conference by leveraging other conferences schools. The Summit League (if they add UNO and UND) will have 6 schools playing FB. So, I think it is interesting that the Summit League who is trying to move up to mid-major conference status would allow its primary regional competition the Missouri Valley Conference to use Summit League schools to improve its image in recruiting for basketball. In the long run, schools playing in the MVFC would only hurt themselves. It would only be an advantage if they were assured that they would be allowed into the conference at some point in the future. But, the interesting part is that the schools in the MVFC (NDSU, SDSU and WIU) - in my opionon would not be the leading candiates to join the Missouri Valley Conference if it expanded in the future. In my opinion the pecking order would be - UNO, USD, WIU, SDSU, NDSU and then UND. Of course this changes if MVC moves to FBC but I am not sure that they can do that within the next 10 year window. So, I think things are going to get very interesting within the next couple of years. If the Summit League plays it card right with the support of its core football schools. It could pass the Big Sky, Horizon and gain on MVC by absorbing the GWFC and adding UNO and UND. A Summit League Football Conference would include: SDSU NSDU &Poly &Cal Davis WIU SUU USD UND UNO It is really striking when you look at the MVFC without SL schools: NORTHERN IOWA - MVC SOUTHERN ILLINOIS - MVC MISSOURI STATE - MVC ILLINOIS ST - MVC INDIANA ST - MVC & YOUNGSTOWN ST - HL

The only games with announcer were FSSN broadcast games. The other games had the PA announcer..

According to the article in the GFH it looks like we have two FBS games.. The Sioux schedule could be even more demanding next season. In addition to Montana, UND is tentatively scheduled to play Division I FBS games at Idaho and Northern Illinois.

I have to say - great job to football staff and support staff. I have noticed the changes this year and hope to see more in the future: Great Moves: 1) New contract with Alerus center and facility improvements. 2) Team store at the Alerus center 3) Increased media exposure - Weekly player blog - very well done - Appears to be daily video updates - Daily new releases promoting the program 4) New uniforms - they look great 5) Football Schedule - I know the home schdule is weak this year. But two of five games are paired with home hockey games. This make the road trips easier to justify. - Future schedule is building - home and home with Montana now.. keep it coming.. 6) Coaches and school out in community more this year.. Recommended improvements: - Look into increased TV exposure - USD has four games on TV this year via Midcontinent Cable - I get the annual pass for webcasts - for games that are not on the air, can you tie the radio broadcast in with webcast. So, we have announcers. - Can we have FSSN go HD? - I would image sat and cable providers would be looking for HD sports to air (Hockey and Football). I know that might be too expensive but thought that I would throw that out.. - Coaches and school out in community more this year.. - please look to do more in the MSP area. Anyway, I impressed with the changes that I have seen. Anyone with other thougths for potential improvements.

DI in Fargo, I believe the general consensus is that Legislation is the wrong path. But, I cannot help but wonder what caused this action. In my opinion, this Legislation is a direct result of the poor communication through the media that took place in Fargo two weeks ago between the Summit League and NDSU administration on its policy toward conference members scheduling UND. I am still not sure what the policy is .. it started as "no ban" by Summit League officials, then "League bans" by NDSU officials to "be careful" a day later. I have no idea what this really means when you try to schedule athletics. So, please recognize the point that maybe some of this is self inflicted. As you say "Flame away"

I could not agree more... I was at the game on Saturday and it was a great send off for the Seniors.
-
Wow - simple mistakes killing the Sioux - face mask, illegal formation..

I tried to purchase a pass to watch the game. But, the site did not work properly.. going with the radio today.

First off, I think the Sioux have performed very well in the first half of the season. I have thoroughly enjoyed the season so far and I would like to congratulate the team on a fine season. I must admit I was not sure about the selection for the new coach. But, I have been very impressed so far. I believe the coach is a fine game day coach who has done a very good job the last two weeks. I have noted that not much was made by the missed extra point early in the 4th Q. As it turns out it was one of the deciding factors in this game. I know that this is nothing more than "ifs and buts
-
why the safety... now we only need a FG
-
Coaches need to have a specific play or two ready to go... no need to burn a timeout. Darnit - missed conversion! But, the Sioux are making a game of it Need a 3 and out..
-
come on offense - you have to do more than 3 and out.. plus giving them the short field - we need a turnover.
-
who starting in the defensive secondary tonight?
-
The offensive line is firing off the ball tonight and running backs are running hard!!! This is SIOUX Football!!!
-
The Sioux offense looks good righ now.. impressed will all the freshman playing right now at the skill positions..
-
8 plays 40 yards - TD Brady - Nice drive - good mix of running and controlled passing game - score UND 30 Kingsville 7 11,434 - largest home opener ever at the Alerus Center
-
Half time - UND 17 Kingsville 7 - the D is getting pressure but no sacks and the offense is starting to get its timing.
