  1. Sorry about replying to my own post, but I do think it is ironic that one of authors is from the University of Iowa and looking at the origin of the word "Hawkeye". If you go the University of Iowa website you get: The term "Hawkeye" originally appeared in the book, The Last of the Mohicans, and was later used in its plural form to describe the people of Iowa. Soon thereafter, the University of Iowa borrowed this nickname for its athletic teams. Look at it a bit more and you get this: the 29th state, known as the hawkeye state, is named as a tribute to chief Black Hawk, leader of the Sac Indians, who after the tribes unsuccessful fight against the white settlers, were relocated to Iowa, a state named from the iowa river, after the ioway indians Plus, you have University of Iowas strong stance on NA nicknames. Do you think the school might be running from something and do not get me started on Sooners and what this represents in US History.
  2. I found this to be a interesting read.. it does talk about the NCAA and it does not view it as a monopoly. http://www.law.umaryland.edu/academics/journals/rrgc/issues/RRGC_9_135_cummings_Harper.pdf The U.S. Supreme Court opined that colleges and universities have alternatives to joining the NCAA when it announced its decision in Natl Collegiate Athletic Assn v. Tarkanian in 1988.139 Coach Jerry Tarkanian, former mens basketball coach for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), argued that the NCAAs power was so overwhelming that university administrations were left with no other choice than to comply with NCAA regulations, including those that deprive parties of constitutionally protected rights.140 Justice John Paul Stevens, in announcing the Courts majority holding, declared that [t]he Universitys desire to remain a powerhouse among the nations college basketball teams is understandable and non-membership in the NCAA obviously would thwart that goal. But that UNLVs options were unpalatable does not mean that they were nonexistent.141 At bottom, the Tarkanian case cemented the nearly unfettered power of the NCAA when it held that the NCAA, as a voluntary, private membership organization did not have to comply with due process and other constitutional requisites when dealing with its voluntary membership institutions.
  3. I thought that Youngstown was again it also. Again, I was simply trying to remind a fan base that tends to rip on UND about the Big Sky that they were very close to being in the Great West Football Conference with USD and UND and that the Gateway/MVFC was no slam dunk for NDSU. It is another reason why I am really excited about the Big Sky and in my opinion UND was very close to indy football.
  4. I thought that the only reason that NDSU got into the MVFC is because SDSU held out until NDSU was included. The MVFC did not want NDSU. But, if you want to think that the MVFC wanted you guys thats cool.
  5. Just to keep you up with the times - UND is moving to the Big Sky which is AQ conference and they will be playoff eligible in 2012. So, recruiting is going much better and no doubt UND lost out on the QB from Bismarck. But, they did pull in several recruits from the region that NDSU and SDSU had interest in. Recruiting for 2011: http://wiki.siouxsports.com/doku.php/football/2011_recruiting_information Won: RB Jer Garman, 5'9”, 170, Marion (Linn Mar), IA Had offers from E. Illinois & USD WR Jameer Jackson, 6'3, 210, Osseo (Osseo), MN Had offers from SDSU & NDSU WR Casey Young, 6'2, 185, 4.48, Aurora (Regis Jesuit), CO Had offer from Weber State OL Sean Meehan, 6'6, 290, Wilmot (Wilmot), WI Had offer from NDSU RB P.J. Sparks, 5'9, 190, 4.5, Glendale (Mountain Ridge), AZ Had offer from SDSU OT Ross Windfeldt, 6'6, 310, 5.8, St. Cloud (Tech), MN Had offer from NDSU Lost: MVFC DB Alex Carr, 5'9, 170, 4.4, Cedar Rapids (Washington), IA UNI RB/WR Isaac Lintz, 6'0, 175, 4.6, W. Des Moines (Valley), IA UNI OL Derek Chancellor, 6'5, 289, McCook (McCook), NE USD OT Nick Jacobs, 6'6, 275, Delano (Delano), MN USD RB Reggie Gandy, 5'8, 180, Minneapolis (De La Salle), MN SDSU LB Brandon Mohr, 6', 220, Sioux Falls (Washington), SD SDSU QB Carson Wentz, 6'5, 205, Bismarck (Century), ND NDSU DE Joe Horvath 6'3, 230, Stevens Point (Stevens Point), WI NDSU Big Sky CB Marcus Alford, 5'10, 165, 4.7, Oxnard (Rio Mesa), CA N. 6. Absolutely agree with this statement - you are comparing the basketball game to the football rivalry - no comparison. Plus a basketball game in a dome can be stale - now put that game in the Betty or BSA and you have atmosphere.
  7. What recruits see and fans see are two very different things. Each recruiting experience is very different. One recruit my see great support, great coaching and great opportunities. Another recruit may see off the field issues, poor training facilities and a limited academic opportunity. So, generalizations don't work. Your comments are just message board chest pounding - seriously go thump chests on the yotes or bunny boards. I think that I answered that in my previous post. Again, my initial response was toward the comment about "NDSU has North Dakota and NW Minnesota by the balls when it comes to football exposure". I think it is a silly statement. ND has always been split between UND/NDSU and I don't see that changing for either team and NW Minnesota largely cheers for the U of M in football because they are the only FBS program around. Unless of course everyone stopped cheering for the U of M because they lost to NDSU. Then again if every U of M football fan switched allegiance because of a loss the residents of Minnesota would have a lot of football jerseys in the closet including Yote gear.
  8. Or, a lot of the residents of Fargo go to UND because of the programs that they offer or they have little interest in NDSU and then return to Fargo after graduating from UND. As to the recruiting comment, I think it has more to do with a AQ league and UND being in transition. Those advantages are about to end. NDSU had a seven year head start and they got a win over Minnesota, one great west football championship, a 10-14 record in MVFC and one decent playoff win over MSU. You are right - NDSU owns North Dakota - MY OH MY.
  9. You do realize a very large percentage of Fargo residents can not stand the Bison and yet you claim they have North Dakota by the balls. Are you the guy on Bisonville that thinks NDSU is going to be in the Big 10 in a couple of years?
  10. In my opinion, if USD had joined the Big Sky. They would have split into divisions with: UND, USD, UM, MSU, EWU, PSU and ISU as one division playing every year, plus a mix of games from the other division - what could have been.

    Spring Game

The offense has a long way to go and this is going to be a young team on offense with depth problems at the skill positions. QB - no clear favorite, but I thought that Hendrickson looked like the best option. Bradley looks lost under center. RB - After Sutton - no running back depth. I see another shirt getting pulled next fall. Miller looks OK as a 3rd down back and it sounds like Breon B. needs surgery. WR - After Hardin it is a bunch of unknowns - I like the potential of McGill, Ivery and Townsen. But, can they stay healthy and can they develop.

    Spring Game

Just that I that I would start a thread about the spring game.
  13. Hey, I appreciate the hockey coverage. But, I thought that today it went over the line..
  14. I don't know any of these guys and I am sure they are nice guys. Again, I get the bit - PA and Cardinal are constantly tearing down others when it comes to college hockey and UND in particular. I roll with it all the time. But, PA brought him on the show. He is ultimately responsible for it and what he said was way over the line. It did go out in the MSP market because I was streaming in tonka. My jaw dropped when I heard the comments.
  15. much more than that went out ..... thats what they could keep
  16. One thing to post his garbage, but on the radio it is totally different. Again, he was not some random call in guy.
  17. I could understand it if he was some random call in guy, but PA/Cardinal/DHG have had bits several times this year and PA had a shoutout to DHG to call in.... so, this isn't some random thing. The guy is part of the bit.... sad stuff.
  18. Did anyone hear the comments about Kristo on KFAN today? I expect those comments from anonymous posters on message boards, but on radio it seems a bit too much
  19. PM if it is available.
  20. 1 - home game DII 1 - home nonconference FCS 1 - one money game 8 - conference 4 home and 4 away. 6 home games looks good to me so far.. Is 2012 and 12 week season? if so, maybe 1 more game coming. Not sure why you are so upset?!?!
  21. It looks like the nonconference schedule has the following for 2012.. Sept. 15 San Diego State San Diego, CA TBD Central Arkansas Grand Forks, ND TBD SDSM&T Grand Forks, ND "The Hardrockers already have two NCAA contests set in football for 2012, with an away game at the University of North Dakota and a home date with Colorado School of Mines." http://rapidcityjournal.com/sports/college/article_628ed6a0-5830-11e0-8ac8-001cc4c03286.html

  23. General thoughts on 2-Deep Offense: Line: Left Tackle - Two young guys and I thought that I saw Deneui playing defense last year. He must be athletic. Left Guard - Kleason - 2nd string? Center - McGurran - good to see he has put on some weight. Comments: Hey did Shea Walker the kid from St. Paul leave the team. I think he would have been RSFr this year. Backs: QB - this will be a battle - 5 guys - I thought that they would move Hendrickson back to WR. He has the arm and skill for QB. But, his accuracy and knowledge of offense must improve. I am looking forward to seeing Comes/Demler playing in spring ball. FB - hey does anyone know anything about Payton DeCoteau RB RFR 5-10 245 - just saw him on the roster - looks like a load to tackle. TE/Y Receiver - I wonder if Grant will push for playing time this year. RB - I any word on Bulter? or the other RSFr we need more depth. Z Receiver - Is Townsend still recovering for the injury. I hope he has a full recovery.
  24. I don't understand why NDSU fans are on UND back about the Big Sky. UND had two options 1) Big Sky or 2) Summit League and Indy football. Option 1 is the obvious choice. The Big Sky has no penalty in place if UND leaves for any other confernce provided they are open about discussion with other confereces. Getting MVFC/Summit League is going to be a long shot. It will take major change in the eastern US conferences to make this happen.
  25. When I read the story about UNO Football. I thought about Pat Behrns coming back to help out it would be a great hire.
