Lots of vitriol on here for people that wanted to continue with no nickname. I personally thought it would be unique but understand the reasons for wanting to move away from the idea that we are holding on to the Sioux name; so I have no problem with it being off the table. It is time to move on.
And it is clear now that "North Dakota" was never an option for the administration and the majority of the committee. Fine. But then it should have been off the table at the beginning - they should have simply stated "we are committed to moving forward with a new nickname". It would have been the respectful thing to do. But instead they chose to take a giant dump on the many, many supporters of the University who wanted no nickname, the vast majority of whom are fine people who care just as much about UND as anyone on this board. The committee strung the option along, then had a meeting whose only purpose was to remove it and nothing else**. It was the right thing to do and the absolute wrong way to do it.
**Green Hawks and Fighting Hawks are two options of the same name, so one had to be eliminated.
