Got their books? I see they have gymnastics and rowing. I'm guessing it's not hard to fund top tier in those to balance football.

Assume Bama is top 10% in FB spending. What's it take to be top 10% in spending on gymnastics or rowing? (Probably a rounding error in the FB budget.)

A young woman that I coached in youth basketball went to school at Wisconsin.  Almost the first day on campus she was asked to join the rowing team because she looked the part (athlete) and they have a ton of scholarship money they need to spend.   They use it to help balance their men's sports.

  2. I ran into a couple of young women a few years ago who played at St. Cloud when Idalski was an assistant there.  They weren't overly critical but didn't have much good to say about their experience with him.  It was obvious they were holding back because I was a UND guy.

Not too many people are going to give us respect so the boys are going to have to take it. Win out, get in the playoffs, and win some games once they're there. If that were to happen then they will have had back to back winning seasons, a playoff appearance, and some wins in the playoffs. All they would have to do after that is continue to string together winning seasons. If that happens they would then get the benefit of being viewed as a contender year in and year out. That should lead to a little bit of love in the polls year after year. Fair or not they haven't established a good pattern of being a contender in FCS and that is at least in part what the polls are based on for the people that never see us play. I think Bubba has this team on the path to becoming a playoff team every year.

I agree with all of this.  What is too bad is that we didn't get into the playoffs last year to get this process jump started and a year further down the tracks.

He also has UND ahead of Stony Brook. Who cares?  Doesn't matter yet.  We just need to win the game we are playing and the polls will take care of themselves.

The reason I think it matters where we stand now is that it is hard to move up but easy to move down with a loss.  At 24 we can't afford to move down at all.  If we were higher we could afford a loss much easier and still be in position for the playoffs.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  Fighting Sioux is gone.  I've made my peace with it.  We had three years to come up with something absolutely killer!  There is NOTHING in the name Fighting Hawks that even resembles a product described in the mission statement released by the committee as far as what they would want the name to represent.  It is generic and pathetic at best.  If the university wanted to shell out money for a product other than the new logo, they should have paid a company to do a historical study on the region and/or state, and come up with a list of possible nicknames based on that.  And the thought that someone would vote for this brown paper bag of a name based on a) an adjective, or b) the idea that a logo that has anything remotely close to something that some uninformed suit at the NCAA would consider native imagery is beyond me.

Agree 100%.   I don't really like the name but have made my peace with it also

Read lots of complaints about the Sac St. announcers but Jack Michaels is just brutal to listen to. It is one outdated cliché after another with him. Outside of a listening audience in rural white bread America (cliché I know) no one could make sense of him.  "He was on him like white on rice"........really?  Really???

I watched on line and listened to Michaels.  He is tough to listen to.

The camera work was terrible from the Sac St crew.  Usually the shot was too tight and you couldn't see where the ball or the runner/receiver ended up.  On Studsrud's long TD run we only saw the first 15 yards or so.

Not disagreeing. Never said or expect UND to use anything "Sioux" at this point. Just per my conversation last night with this individual you MUST have everything and all things FH on it. Can't get just UND on something. Can't get the interlocking ND anymore. Not everyone in the athletic department is buying into the "mandate". Just saying......... I'm just a messenger.

The $24B corporation I work for just changed the name of our division.   We had no say in it as it was mandated.  There were a lot of emails regarding that we need to change email signatures and voice mail greetings to the new name, how to do it and deadlines for getting it done.  No options for us either.  UND is behaving like I would expect any large organization to.

We fought the good fight to keep the Sioux name and lost after spending a lot of effort and money.  I was a big supporter of that fight but at some point we need to move on.  I have both Sioux and Hawks gear and wore a Sioux sweatshirt and a Fighting Hawk hat to the football game last week.  I am not anti-Sioux but I really don't understand the anti-Hawks at all costs crowd.  We aren't getting the Sioux name back, unfortunately, so lets not continue to bash our new name.

My huge Bison fan co-worker says that the strength and conditioning of NDSU has allowed them to stay fresh late in games, whereas their opponents are wore down.  I hope Baukol is doing the same for UND players.  I think that is about as crucial as it gets - who can outlast who.

I have never seen a fan base that didn't think their SC coach was better than everyone else's SC coach.  I wonder how many secrets there are out there.

I was actually curious when they last made it. The talk of them being a perennial top 10 is what made me wonder. Apparently top 10 isn't worth much if it doesn't even get you into the playoffs.

top 8 get in.  UND was 10th last year.  RPI in Women's hockey is heavily weighted to the East Coast teams for some reason.  Schlossman has explained it but I don't remember details.  Some weaker teams from the east get in every year at the expense of western teams.

Mercyhurst got in ahead of Bemidji State, probably an auto bid.

remember these are just recomendations...he still can drop them...why would it be politically tough?  only about 300 people go to the games and 290 of them are parents....

I'm not saying I agree with the decision but don't think it will go.

The difficult political part is that it gets a lot of media attention and is a perennial top 10 program in the country.   I know there aren't many teams that play women's hockey but they are consistently in the top 10.

290 parents would be 11 parents per player on the roster.  :)

Not sure of your point - no whistle he kept playing - he walks away from the ball and the refs stand there looking at the ball, a CP player picks it up and runs it in and he's getting raked here.

I had a good angle on it and was dying worrying that wouldn't pick it up and it would go the other way for 6.   Nice play on his part.  Most of those on the field stopped for a couple of seconds.

Not exactly. He's just not capable of dragging a couple guys like Olivera. Right now that's what the OL is providing on most plays.

This was my take from Saturday as well.  Olivera can bang and power out some yards when there isn't much there.  Santiago needs our OL to create more space than they are doing right now.

Unless you think the Heidlebaugh kid from Rugby is ready to step in, Studsrud is our best option.

Water over the dam here but I really wish Mollberg would have gotten a look last year when Studsrud was hurt.  It would have been great to see what he could do with the line and running backs we had last then.  Good or bad it would have answered a lot of questions regarding what is our best option at QB.

Wave the flag of ISIS while standing on the steps of the Chester Fritz:  "Hey, that's your RIGHT as an American citizen and you're expressing your freedom of speech on UND's campus.

Hold up a "Trump 2016" sign while standing on the steps of the Chester Fritz:  "This behavior is not acceptable in society and you need to be removed from campus immediately."

I will call BS on this one.  The first one would cause a lot of angst and the other would barely be noticed.

I'm an NDSU fan and the Bison fanbase is extremely obnoxious.  The only fanbase more obnoxious are the Sioux hockey fanbase.

I was really turned off by obnoxious Sioux hockey fans the last few years I lived in GF.

After moving to the Twin Cities I found that in general Gopher hockey fans are more obnoxious and many of them are much less knowledgeable about the game.  Their feelings of superiority drive me nuts. I quickly found a new bond with UND hockey.

So your point justifies "fans" not showing up for playoff games back in the day?  But students who agonized thru almost 3 quarters of really bad football by UND on Saturday and decided to bolt now should be burned at the stake?

    Simple question(s)?

When we play good football in meaningful games (playoff implications) most people will stay until the end.

When are people going to stop talking about "Bandwagon fans", whether it's NDSU or UND.  Here is a news flash......ALL TEAMS HAVE BANDWAGON FANS........in every sport.....and every team.  When you win more......more people want to be part of that, and this is nothing new.....it's always been that way.....can't believe so many people sit and complain about bandwagon fans.   Do you think the stands at Memorial Stadium were full in the mid 80's when we sucked, that is before my time but I doubt they were.  It is kind of lame that there was a mass exodus after the scholarship announcement, but since I wasn't there at the time to see exactly when it occurred.....I don't know if it was before or after it looked like we still had some hope so I won't comment too much about that.   However we haven't had a strong enough winning football culture the past 4-5 years to make the average student want to stay when it looks like you are getting blown out.  Let's keep winning and that will come around over time. Arguing about the fact that there are some bandwagon fans is like arguing about there being snow and cold weather in ND in the winter.

There was always controversy over attendance figures for playoff games at Memorial during the good times.  The place would look very full but the numbers announced were a lot less than what people expected.  At that time it was blamed on the fact that everyone had on a lot of cold weather clothes and spread out because there weren't actual seats, only benches.
