*Except the other Dakota schools or Montana

Otherwise, a great point that needs to be highlighted. Between Graduation / Portal departures this winter, ISU-Blue, UNI, Murray & Youngstown were decimated. All things considered, UND made it through the winter portal relatively unscathed. Spring portal is a different animal, unfortunately, UND's two losses so far might break the offense. Not sure if the four teams I mentioned had any type of big losses this Spring as well.

Montana quarterback Clifton McDowell transferred to Temple in January and is transferring again to McNeese St.

That will be his 6th school in 6 years.  He also committed to Southern for a couple weeks somewhere in his journey but never went there.

I'm guessing that 7 was a typo and was meant to be a 6 because there is absolutely no chance Morgan is getting even remotely close to that amount from Nebraska.

He is a goofball and mispronounces names all the time so it’s very possible.  On the screen it did show $700k as the price for Payne.

  3. I don't like the paying for a playoff game either.  The only positive I can come up with is maybe if they know they have that base for ticket sales for a playoff game it makes it easier to bid to host.

Do tailgate spots pay an additional game day parking fee?

what was general parking last year 10 or $15 a game so was probably more per game than tailgating

7 home games this year so it’s $14.28 per game for a tailgate spot

no additional cost for parking if you have a tailgate spot.

If UND Football was a movie it would be Ground Hog's Day, some ups and downs and nuances throughout but we are stuck, over and over again we enter another off season with underwhelming talent, development, and coaching.  On top of that when UND does develop a player that is recognized nationally the new normal is another school gives him $150,000 to transfer, edging out his next offer of $50,000 and pick of any truck on the lot.  College football is lawless and declining.  Big name Coaches are leaving.  Soon FCS will be a pure development league for FBS.  I understand the frustration with UND and with college football in general, hanging by a thread myself.

Agree with all of your statements.

Regarding the portal - the G5 and less successful P5 schools are next in the pecking order and lose players up the chain too.  It will be interesting to see what it looks like in 5-10 years.  It is not sustainable the way things are now.  I read that Calipari from Kentucky has been promised $5M/year in NIL funds at Arkansas.

Right around when Danny left…. Is @geaux_siouxDanny Freund?

I asked the same question a couple months ago.

I know Dale had an account on here back in the day that disappeared when he left.

Glad to see you posting again Ira….. thanks for the update.

Is geaux_sioux ever coming back?  Nothing since January 12?

Not sure what thread this goes on… this morning the Minneapolis Star Tribune had an article in the sports section about NIL for high school athletes. I believe it is the first in a series. A Minnetonka girl’s BB player is the nation’s #6 recruit. She made a deal with New Balance. Her team all wore new New Balance shoes on the way to their state championship. Not sure this is a good direction for high school sports.

Your point is still valid but the story is a little misleading.  The team did get shoes from new balance but they were more like knock around shoes, not basketball shoes.  Technically they ‘wore them on the way to the state championship’ since they wore them on the bus ride to the game.

Totally get the outrage.  I want to see better also. I’m just saying it could be a lot worse.

for example   I live near the University of Northern Colorado   They had a perfect season last year  0-12

Their baseball team is 0-20 right now

    More perfection

In the 5 fb seasons prior to 2023 UNC won a total of 13 games and never more than 3 in one year.  So yes it could get a lot worse.

Dumping your season tickets or not going to games only hurts the programs.  Less $ will make things worse.

the players need support and you won’t get players without $

Also hurting REA more than the fb program by 4%.  :)

REA takes 52% of football ticket revenue.

Full Disclosure: I will not be dumping my season tickets over this. However, my hopes and expectations have taken a big dive.

    Same with me.

I’m dropping all my football season tickets as well. I’ll just pick up some tickets for free on game day when they’re giving them out to try get butts in seats

Serious question.  Do you have bb season tix and if so, will you be dropping them also?

BB team 18-14 with first winning season since ‘16-‘17.

The REA doesn't operate the hockey program.  What the 52% is used for is spelled out in the usage agreement.  My issue is with the REA retaining net income instead of distributing all of it to UND (less the money needed for day to day operations and money that goes to Repairs/Maintenance/Enhancement Fund).

Per the paragraph above it is referred to as a 'facility usage fee'.  How is the football program paying REA s facility usage fee.  It makes sense for the teams that use the Ralph and the Betty.

To be honest, I have no problem with UND's approach - student focused first:

    1)  Facilities

    - Fritz (Indoor Practice Facility) - Open

    - Memorial I (Coaches Offices, Other areas) - Open Fall 2024

    - Fritz II (Locker rooms, new outdoor track and outdoor field turf) - Open Fall 2024

    2) Cost of attendance, Alstom ($1 million annually) - (starting spring of 24).

    3) Then coaching salaries

Next up coaching salaries.  People need to remember SDSU and USD still have mortgages to pay for their facilities.  If the North Dakota schools were able to use State Bonding for athletic facilities it would be helpful.  So, you don't have an apples to apple comparison.

Imagine what the 52% of ticket sales ($642k in 2023) that go to REA could do for the program.  There is already a line item where REA gets paid to manage and sell the tickets so I am not sure what the 52% is for.

    2023 average attendance 10,288 x $20/ticket = $205,760/game in ticket revenue

    $205,760 x 6 home games = $1,234,560 ticket revenue in 2023

    52% to REA = $642k

Not certain of the $20 ticket price but even at 75% of that it would be a big number.  Also not sure how much of that would go directly to the football program but some of it would.
