Where did this info come from?  Lots of great insider info for both und and NDSU on this board.

Good source close to the situation in Fargo.  I'm not going to kiss and tell and I expect you will believe what you want to believe.  I can't betray that trust.

  2. Kolpack was told that if he reported some negative stories he wouldn't be allowed back in the locker room when Bohl was there.  Also has been given marching orders from the Forum that they want only  positive SU stories.. NDSU sells a lot of papers in Fargo.

Anyone know how Taj Rich's knee is coming along?

Ligament tears are a long process, I am rehabbing from surgery in late April and still have a long ways to go.

I am pulling for Taj also.  Got to know his family through tailgating and they are good people.

And yet most on this board are begging for more FBS transfers to fill holes left by FBS transfers that either left or were kicked off the team. Anyboby seeing a trend and figuring out JUCO and FBS transfers are not the way to go? How many transfers have made significant contributions to UND FB the last 3 years? Would those scholarships have been beter utilized developing freshmen?

I'm in agreement with this in general.  UND has taken more chances on FBS transfers and JUCOs due to the shortage in talent Bubba inherited.  I expect the numbers will decline in the future.

    Volleyball roster is up.

Looks like Sprengleler, Place, Spacek and Harnett are gone from the roster.  All freshmen.  Place seemed to be one that wanted to play closer to home, not sure on the others.

As far as new faces: Ziegler, Brueggeman and Johnson are freshmen recruits officially announced by UND in December.  Tepavac, Merceli (JC transfers) and Vail (Baylor transfer) were announced this spring.

    Others:

Chai Pappa from Stanley played at Bismarck State last year and was NJCAA honorable mention All-American.

Tamika Brekke from Eden Prairie was at North Carolina Central last year.  I assume she will have to sit a year like Vail.

Maggie Smith is a freshman from Colorado.  I guess she gave a verbal commit in April but I saw no mention of it from UND.  She is a PWO.

9 new faces this year, 8 last year.

Do you know the details on transfer rules?  I am not certain but I don't think you need to sit a year when transferring and play volleyball.

The nickname has been voted on and chosen.  The logo has been made.  Neither are going to be changed anytime in the near future.  The sooner everyone realizes that, the better off we will be.

Agree - we need to move on.  Neither of these will change in the short term.   I am sick of the whole thing.

That mindset says an awful lot. Reminds me of a battered spouse...'sure, he beats me, but I'm pretty lucky to be married at all, and I'm afraid to be out on my own.'  This is really a reach but you can run with it if you want.  Why are we a battered spouse for using our own logo?  I say stand up and fight for what you have and have always had.  Why do you want to run a way like a scared child?

What's regional about D1 athletics? - We can pretend that the nation as a whole cares about UND but that would be wrong.  how often are we in the same conversation with Notre Dame?  Very seldom..How many times have we played each other in the last 10 years?

What's regional about licensing goods into the stream of global commerce? - because we sell 99% of our stuff in our region.

What's regional about having one of the top aerospace programs in the world?  Nothing.  How does that impact using the interlocking ND?

The interlocking ND is not UND's identity. Yes it is and has been since long before either of us were alive.  I wore it on my football helmet for 4 years and love the logo.  It is as much our identity as anything else we use.  You obviously are newer to UND and don't value our history as much as I do. For once, wouldn't you like to walk into a sporting goods store and buy your team's hat without double-checking the back for an embroidered leprechaun?  I haven't seen that as a problem.  Look for the UND section if you need some guidance.  That will take care of 99% of the issue.  You will still have to check on the other 1%.

I found Kelley's "Exceptional" mantra to be a bit much at times, but UND is striving to be more. UND has sought to create an identity.

Fighting Sioux, regional thinking, and being Notre Dame's bitch are in the past.  I doubt many people feel that way and don't get the connection.  How are we Notre Dame's bitch because we kept using the logo we developed prior to their use?  Backing down from them when they challenged us would have made us their bitch.  We did the opposite and fought back.

UND is looking to the future, and I applaud that.  Let's look to the future but why do we need to ignore our past?

Let me grab the point and drag it back over to you.

A school doesn't put out an entire new name/marketing campaign and then use the old logo secondary logo that became the defacto primary logo.

If they keep it around fine, but they weren't going to use it as main logo.

Your last line - that is what  I am asking for.  Not as a main logo but it looks like it will be retired completely.

We did that successfully with the Blackhawk logo, the geometric logo, the Brien loga.....and everything previous to that.    I always took a lot of pride in the interlocking ND, especially when I was a player at UND even though it wasn't our primary logo.  I would like to keep some continuity with our history.   I guess we can disagree on that.

I really don't buy the confusion with Notre Dame argument.  That was part of my original point.

So one day "we" hate the logo because it's too plain and the next "we" hate the logo because "we" could have just had a block letter instead.  My spider senses are telling me "we" were committed to hating this logo no matter what.

I'm not sure if this was a reply to my post but if so my stance wasn't very clear.

I think the new logo is pretty unimaginative but accept it and think there will be other versions eventually.   I don't think the new logo and the interlocking ND are mutually exclusive.  We used the interlocking ND in the past in conjunction with all of the different logos we have had.

Yah.  Nothing says UND Fighting Hawks like continuing to use Notre Dame's logo.  Everyone knows it as theirs, regardless of what we think.

Most people in our region (Dakotas and Minnesota) think of North Dakota when they see the interlocking ND.   About 90% of the stuff I see with that logo in the Twin Cities is UND related.  Probably different if you go to Alabama but who cares.  We are a regional school.

We have a great history of using it and I would hate to see it retired.

I don't think people are saying that every student athlete or coach has to be as fired up as Bubba is about the new logo.  Can you not like the final product, sure.  But these student atheletes are representing the University of North Dakota and the Athletic department.  Not saying they have to fall into line and all state publicly their support.  But as a representative of the UND athletic department, they should at least show a little refrain from criticizing it so vocally and publicly.  You want to talk counterproductive........well there you go.

My feelings also.  Know who you are and who you represent.

Ok - football only might be a reach, but in my opinion calling out individuals on a team that gave their heart and soul to give us an national championship because they aren't as fired up as Bubba about this change or because they expressed an opinion that seems to match almost everyone on this board is sad and counterproductive.

I think (guess) if you could really get into Bubba's mind you would find out that he isn't fired up about the name change either.   He does understand what it means to be part of a larger organization (team) and how to support that team in public.

Whoa, hold on there: Shut up and play? There is a group of people from a certain political persuasion that I do not share who likes to b!tch and moan about how "liberal campus speech codes" are taking away our freedoms and liberties. Now, all of a sudden, student-athletes are supposed to "shut up and play"? It can't be both; either college campuses are free speech zones or they aren't. Or does it depend on what speech and who is speaking it?

We don't "own" these young men and women. Most of them could have gone any number of other places. And if they were not here, we wouldn't have teams, players and championships to talk about. We should appreciate them for what they do and not tell them to "shut up" about anything.

The point is - realize that you are part of a larger organization and understand that whether you are an employee or another part of the organization.  As a student-athlete you are part of a larger org and should be expected to keep your feelings out of the public eye if you don't support the larger org.  That is called being an adult and a good teammate or member of the larger team.  You learn that pretty quickly in business or you don't do well in any org.  You can debate like hell behind the scenes but stick together for those outside the group.

When i was playing football at UND I was interviewed by the Star Tribune for an article and the sportswriter wanted me to state how well my first school approached football compared to UND.  I was extremely careful to not say anything that could be construed as negative about UND.  He ended up cutting my quotes from the article because they didn't support his premise.

it is VERY disappointing this thing will be on the football helmets.  The Sioux logo was never on the football helmet.  There was no need for the football team to make that kind of drastic change.

Bubba is doing what he thinks is right in trying to move the university and fans forward.

We had the interlocking ND on our helmets for a long time.

so, games will be on 790, not 740?

This is from the press release:

Hockey and football broadcasts can be heard on KFGO AM 790 while men’s and women’s basketball broadcasts, and the weekly Coaches Shows will air on AM 740 The Fan (KVOX AM). The daily program, UND Sports Today, will air on both stations.
