Faison had better be working on some attractive road game destinations for 2020 and beyond, because Macomb is Greeley minus the mountain scenery and San Luis Obispo and Davis, CA, have bowel movements that look like Cedar Falls.

Yeah, that's a bit harsh, but have you seen Cedar Falls? I'm sorry, but just as a travel destination there is no comparison. Don't try.

I agree on the OOC games but I live in the Twin Cities and if my kid was being recruited I would rather know that I could easily drive to about half of the away games every year.  To me that would be an important factor and I am sure it is for many players and their parents.  I am guessing the new conference will be as much a positive for some as a negative for others considering our main recruiting areas.

  2. Watched the last 6 minutes of the women's game tonight.  Kicked away a 12 point lead while I watched but hung on to win.  Couldn't get the ball up court against the press.  Really ugly basketball but a win is a win.

Could the 4 be the Dakota 3 and UNI?

    From Kolpack's article:

Adding UND marks a change of heart in expansion for the Missouri Valley since its Presidents Council met last summer, where Viverito said the league was content with its makeup. It appears the Summit League-member schools of the Valley—NDSU, South Dakota State, South Dakota and Western Illinois—played a role in the addition of the Fighting Hawks.

"We have four members ... who were anxious to get North Dakota in the Summit as a 10th member," she said. "For good reason they asked us to reconsider because it's good for the all-sports side of the equation as opposed to just football."

When it's Omaha, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and South Dakota together it's okay.

But if UND joins then it's the old NCC and it's not cool anymore. Got it.

Agree.  That is a pretty dumb take on it.  I guess we push things over the tipping point.

  5. This decision was made for $$ reasons.  GF Herald estimated $500k per year.  I was told by a person on the keep/cut sports committee that it is $800k/year.  There are budget cuts coming.  This is a fairly benign way to help with that.  There are people on both sides of the debate so I see it as pretty even.

If we could have afforded the Big Sky I'm sure we would have stayed.  If all of us fans and donors had provided another $1M or so to UND per year I'm sure we would have stayed also.

Not sure how to absorb this yet, intial feeling is good.

I get to go to road games again to see the Bison and 2 SD's, I like the SD's presidents in that they work at their alma matar.

Seemed like we were figuring out our recruiting, and wonder if that will change.

Bison lucked out on their 2019 home OOC FB game, we'll get even with them for that.

    Baseball coming back???????

Good to be seeing you 3 again!

Living in the Twin Cities, this brings NDSU, SDSU, USD and Northern Iowa all within easy travel distance for me.  Will probably be at all of those road fb games in the future.

Weber wasn't that good and played a vastly superior team. Poly ran into weather that killed their style of play. They wouldn't have made a deep run because of their defense though.  EWU was doing their typical EWU thing and it took a miracle catch to beat them against a very good team. Can't blame the weather here. UND was beating the piss out of Richmond and then suffered a fate as embarrassing as erotic  asphyxiation. I think SUU would have been a better rep of the Big Sky in the playoffs but still wouldn't have beaten Chatty. It didn't change how I feel about UND's season. We got on a roll. We were missing a couple key pieces. Our fast WR. Our other starting CB. Our stud fr OL who went back to the rez. Our schedule was supposed to be soft as Charmin based on pre season rankings but turned out to be one of the hardest in the conference. Who knows what the schedule strength will be next year? We can guess, but there's no way to predict it.  You could probably say that we overachieved. Even still, I expect the team to take another step or two forward next season.

Regarding the OL - I can't help but wonder how we would have been with Grady all year and Stockwell healthy for the playoffs. Anchor those tackle spots and the rest of the OL would have filled in really nicely.  Our run game for the playoffs could have been special.

The 80's showed NDSU's dominance and UND knocking on the basement door with Morningside, the 90's showed how UND rose and how NDSU fell. You didn't fall as hard as UND did in 81-92, but you fell out of national title appearances, undefeated seasons and starting in 93 you fell out of home playoff games. UND capped off their rise in 01 and 03 with NC appearances and a title. Your rise to fame didn't come until you bolted, and now UND is rising again, so now both ND teams are hosting playoff games, who is going to fall back to earth and who is going to stay up in the clouds? We shall see.

Not really fair to say that UND was a bottom dweller 81-84.  We didn't fall off the map until 85.

Records in the early 80's weren't terrible and a couple of 3 loss seasons:

    • 1980 - 6-4
    • 1981 - 6-4
    • 1982 - 7-3
    • 1983 - 6-5
    • 1984 - 8-3

Does anyone have any insight what is going on with the budget shortfall that caused all this pandemonium with sports being cut / new conferences? I'm sure they are still looking into new conferences, but as Tom Miller wrote, the savings won't be as much as most thought. Has Kennedy taken care of the budget problem? If so, how? I'm just really confused as this was such a hot topic and now there's no talk whatsoever on it.

I was told by a person who was on the committee that Faison told him that UND would save $800k/year.  He also said Faison would deny that.  I don't know why and I don't  understand why that number is so different from Tom Miller's article.

How can (7 players not playing cuz of this) be kept quiet through the game?

I am confused by the article I read.  It says 7 are out for the final and mentions 2 of their better players being out for the semis.  I am not sure if all 7 were out for the semis or just the 2.

    Has anyone seen that clarified?

Do you put Craig Bohl in the 'better human being' category, too?  Just curious, want to gauge your rating capabilities-

What kind of guy is Craig Bohl?  I really don't know much about him.

Eastern Washington's loss shows me even more we are going down the right path by following the Bison example of a ball control offense and dominating defense.  Eastern Washington had a comfortable lead and didn't even attempt running, going downfield just about every down.  If this was a one time thing for them it would be different, but they traditionally need to outscmuore teams, and that doesn't work so well come playoff time.  More depth and beef and UND should be well set to challenge consistently.

They had a lot of success on their last drive when they finally ran the ball.  I didn't see much of the game but I was surprised they didn't run more in the second half.

NDSU was missing that "it" that they've had the last 5 years. I still thought they were about to pull it out before that FG though.

Was Wentz part of the "it" factor the last couple of years.  I didn't realize how good he was until the draft talk started last year.

  14. My brother was in Fargo at a Fargo North basketball game.  Said the place went silent after the fb game was final.

My son is at the Betty for the UND basketball game and there was a roar when the game ended even though there was no announcement.
