No one would be happier than the BBall fans - with his passion and on court enthusiasm he would be an easy one to get behind and really support. He needs to put on weight, learn how to box out and keep the ball out of reach with a go-to move within 3 feet of the basket.

This could get ugly - now it's impacting the minority organizations.

Glad to see the passion for the program but what makes a leader great is knowing what problems to deal with and when. I doubt that having the money to give Bubba a raise in future years is even on the first page of issues.

Just when many were starting to accept that cuts needs to be made they pull the scab off the wound. Hope they set the bar very high for funding baseball otherwise it's going to be an annual headache. Now what if all the other areas that are being cut say "What if we can fund ourselves". Now you have all these small fragmented fundraising activities going after the same dollars. Times change, not all programs are going to survive, there is duplication, there are legitimate reasons why the programs that are on the cutting block were chosen. Higher education needs to refocus for the future and tough decisions need to be made and kept. Sometimes that means pain.

Jack is very professional and obviously has lots of experience. I don't think there are a lot of choices out there short of bringing someone new to the market, which is probably more money than they want to pay. At the end of the day he spends 5 days a week bleeding yellow and then magically puts on his UND hat on Saturday - he covers it well but the reality is he's not a part of the community.

I want to see a whole season of Clive George.

Stop responding and it drops like a rock - I bet a week's pay the rube writes another column based on the social media response he was able to generate - it's the McFeeley school of journalism - write something extremely asinine then you get to write a follow-up story on the responses - two for one - just lazy journalism.

Or climbing a UND building and vandalizing it, or exposing yourself to children at a mall, or starting a fight in an alley...

Never argue with a person who buys ink by the barrel. It was low-hanging fruit as far as a topic and and bashing the Flagship University is a popular pastime down there no matter what else is going on. By the way did I miss the article/tweet that shared what Carson had for breakfast?

Sounds good...case closed

Not any more.

true ..just a rant on my part..if i owned a local bar i would just question the need to try and get every dollar.

Interesting. So I own a bar-/restaurant in Grand Forks pay my license fees every year but the Ralph gets to create a bar-/reataurant. Also when these events are bid with assistance from the CVB and tax payer dollars isn't part of the spin how the local bars and restaurants will profit?

University's are government entities - why is it that everyone complains about government waste but when budget's are cut and it is our ox being gored the pitchforks and torches come out? I do wonder why no other University or college in the state is making headlines with their mandatory budget cuts? Is it once again the UND is being penalized for being upfront and public while others are hiding behind bushes hoping no one turns a flashlight on them?

Layoff reactions are very predictable - anger, denial, questioning... but the reality is they happen every day in the corporate world. It's not fair, it's not easy to live with, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made. It's okay for people to be angry, especially those directly involved. Those that make the decisions know they will have to deal with the backlash it comes with the salary base. Usually those that are the first to go are the lucky ones - those that are left behind have to deal with the guilt and the fear of the unknown - morale always takes a hit. Remember this is just a small part of the cuts that are coming - this is going to impact the entire University.

When other schools have cut sports it was with the caveat that they would not allow outside money to be used to save it because in the big picture it's not sustainable, there are financial unknowns every year and there are administrative issues - it just delays the inevitable. As far as other sports that weren't cut another option is to reduce the number of scholarships.

Come back when you hear it at the championship rally tomorrow or one of the players says it from the main podium. Won't happen. (Class vs Crass)

Grand Forks does support the football team - although not to the point it did in the early 2000s but it is coming back and there has always been a loyal following of fans throughout the transition. UND has maintained attendance of around 8,000 and the momentum is growing. Look back at when they were at the peak of DII and the support was stupendous which contributed to a huge home field advantage. The latest statistics I could find were attendance of 8,130 per game in 2014 (and that year we were 5-7) I'm guessing 2015 was up a bit and next year it will be up more. The bigger challenge is that attendance at all college football is decreasing (even Alabama) and it seems like the student section doesn't know how to get into the game. Another point to be made is that because of hockey, and soon basketball, UND is not a suitcase college. Students stick around on the weekends.

This will certainly help perpetuate the "Curse of the Fighting Sioux" myth.

Or they could use our actual name "North Dakota" and sell something. Sorry let's not digress into a nickname discussion. We are North Dakota.
-
Could have been worse - at least they got the UND part correct. Gonna be a lot of those shirts in dollar stores or shipped to Africa.

No rioting, no vandalism, no burning cars - geez I guess we just don't know how to celebrate. (However the Herald did feel the need to report the sighting of one broken beer bottle downtown.) Siouxpride.com

Back at the Ultimate Sports Bar in Waite Park (St. Cloud) MN. St. Cloud State Coach Bob Motzko was sitting at the table next to us last night no doubt thinking about where he might have been.
