While some may disagree I think we can trust the process. There were some on here screaming that Bubba needed a raise and he needed it that day and as it played out it was announced quite quickly that it was being worked on. I would guess that giving our raises to coaches of men's sports isn't something you announce a few days after cutting a a women's sport - even if Title IV issues are covered, the perception out there is that when UND cut WH it violated Title IV. Denial is the first stage in the process....the "anger" stage is coming and it is going to be a b*tch. You gotta figure it's going to impact their for-profit hockey schools also.

Yes and the fallacies I have seen in many different places now is that last week the coaches did not know in advance, the team was told they were cut while they were on the ice practicing, and that UND intentionally leaked the cuts to the media prior to the press conference.

So the fallacies are already making the rounds and like the Siouxper Drunk shirts urban legend unfortunately will live forever.

I do not disagree however in the never ending cycle of there is no right way and you are always going to be criticized - they would have been criticized for "focusing on the number rather than the people who's lives were impacted."

If you have ever been through a large lay off you know there is no gentle way to do it. It sucks and there is no right way. The younger you are the less you understand this about the process. All the tweets and Facebooks posts are just clueless about the real world of business and employment.

I find those signs hostile and abusive but I bet they show up in a tweet from a local sportswriter as further punishment to UND.

Yes part of the uninformed on social media are asking why SU doesn't have to cut sports.

I always thought it was strange that they couldn't find enough quality recruits in the US so they had to go to Europe and recruit which must have added to the budget issues. I suppose part of the reason was one of the coaches was from Europe (was it Finland?).

The uneducated do not want facts they want counseling and a quiet room.

So do we assume the "Save WH" group understands that saving WH means cutting at least 4-5 other sports which means having no conference affiliation for any sports except hockey? You don't save $1.3 million by removing chocolate milk from the dining hall and at the end of the day academic funding is more important than a sport. It sucks but it's reality.

Not slamming but please share how you would have handled it in this day of leaks and media needing to be the first to break news. There is no way this can be done "right".

I believe if the process wouldn't have been a three ring circus we would not be called the Fighting Hawks. Although there is little research or experience from other universities on what would have been a correct process there is now research/experience on how not to do it thanks to UND. I am one that accepts the change to Fighting Hawks because it was time, but I was a Fighting Sioux as a student and that won't change. Also I have plenty of Fighting Sioux gear I intend to keep wearing to every game I attend I highly doubt anyone of merit will ever say anything to me about it.

It all comes back to "Follow the Money. Ad revenue is down in newspapers so they cut staff. When they cut staff they still need to fill the newspaper so more content has to come from outside the local news/sports room thus more USA today content and more content from sibling newspapers.

Based on what - that's it is on Good Friday in the afternoon, that is is in a venue with no seating, that there has been virtually no promotion of it, or there is nothing going on around it to attract fans?

I think it has evolved from "Cheers" to high energy noise. and I think this rides on the backs of the students. If you look at the schools that have a lot of energy it's centered on the student section that is jumping up and down and making noise - not necessarily leading cheers. You can't expect the energy to come from those that are in their 40s, 50, 60s, 70s....

Yes they will be replacing the position. We know there is a process for hiring especially if the hire is from outside the University. They probably need to dig around and make some calls before creating a list.

I think that is moving the bar. Betty attendance has increased, corporate accounts have lots of variables. His job is to run the program. Yes winning helps increase attendance and could increase corporate accounts but it's not a given. He's earned an extension - would be nice if they funded him enough that he could stop losing assistants.

Trust me i would have rather been there then my conference...next year confetence is two weeks earlier. I will be there.
