I thought you were supposed to suck 'em not lick 'em. Oh yeah, I forgot, the SIOUX SUCK 'em.
-
How about on the Bison Sioux statewide football and basketball games. It was pretty clear where Mr. Sweeney's loyalties were, very exuberant after a big Sioux play, pretty somber after a big Bison play.
-
Oh, Does Al Michaels pull for the Sioux on the air too?
-
Can you link to this press release? Does it have a UND letterhead? I would be willing to bet it doesn't exist. This would definitely alienate some of the current core schools in the conference and they would lose their automatic qualifier if one or two of them left. NDSU won't be pushing for something that could jeopardize that auto bid. Besides, I thought the Big Sky was drooling over getting UND and they were a lock to get in the ideal conference for UND.
-
Funny, but I didn't hear any Sioux Fans question the validity of the arguments quoted in post #s 283 & 285 from a couple of UND professors in a letter to the GF Herald (now that's an objective combination). Those were taken as gospel from Sioux fans. I guess objectivity is reserved for people at UND & Grand Forks.

You may be surprised what a renovated Bison Sports Arena might look like. We hear they have raised nearly all of the $16 million they are going to spend on the project. I personally think they should raise about double that and build a new arena. But we hear the renovated BSA will be basketball friendly and actually feel like a basketball arena.

If NDSU gets into the Mid-Con this year I don't beleive they will be leaving for the Big Sky anytime soon. I think you are mistaken if you think the chance of being in the BSC with UND & USD will be any kind of a reason for NDSU to bolt the Mid-Con. NDSU has gotten comfortable being seperated from UND and won't or shouldn't go out of their way to help UND find a home. Besides, If you ask most college basketball followers in the last 20 years which conference is more recognizable the Mid Con or the Big Sky, they would say the Mid Con. If NDSU would happen to land in the Gateway for football in the next couple of years, There is no way they leave that combo for the Big Sky. Maybe the Missouri Valley, but not the Big Sky.
-
There may not be a GWFC in two years. It seems that Western Kentucky is leaving the Gateway for the Sun Belt. If that happens the Gateway would be down to 7 teams and would likely be looking to add one or two more. Hopefully NDSU would be in the running. If the GWFC loses one or two more teams, there will be no conference left.

Those three presidents should be commended. I would want the president of my university to go into that meeting with a plan to further the interests of their univeristies. Its called leadership. I rather doubt their intention was to hurt the state university system as a whole. The job of the presidents is to present what they need for their individual schools, its the job of the board and chancellor to sort through those requests and decide whats best for the entire system.

Yeah your right, UC Davis beat the Bison by a touchdown last year after the Bison beat Davis by 20 some points the year before. And Stanford was 4-4 in the Pac-10 last year(Possibly the toughest conference in the country) while the Gophers were 3-5 in the Big Ten. That comparision isn't even close. DaveK, perhaps you should stay in the hockey portion of this site. You don't appear to be paying much attention to any other sport.

I read the thread. Still don't know what rules he broke. Even if he went to the board to get rid of Potts, what is the crime in that. It is pretty obvious that Potts had a problem with Chapman long before this supposedly happened. Potts had already made it clear that either Chapman goes or he does. What is wrong with Chapman going to the board and finding out which one they were going to support? Obviously Chapman must have "refused to follow the rules and regulations of the SBoHE" long before any AG investigation, but still don't know what those rules are.
-
I'm sorry Sioux-cia, Maybe I missed something, but I'm still waiting to hear exactly what rules and regulations of the SBoHE that Dr. Chapman broke that all of the other Presidents had to follow. Maybe you could fill us in since you seem to have extensive knowledge of this situation. It's obviously not hatred or jealousy behind your statements, so I'm sure you must know what violations Chapman is guilty of. Please fill us in.

While I don't agree with D1 In Fargo that there aren't good athletes in Montana, I think it would be extremely difficult to get them away from one of the D1AA Montana schools. Nebraska may be a good place to find some good D1AA players, but UND will have to go much farther south to get the speed they will need in 1AA. I do take exception to some of the UND fans "holier than thou" attitude about being this elite institution that only Rhode Scholars can get into. Their basketball team did have 2 JUCO athletes (Beasley & Myron ALlen) at the same time that were only in Grand Forks because they hadn't gotten the grades or degree from their JUCO to qualify in D1.
-
All of you Sioux fans that are in favor of the D1 move have only one man to thank for the move, and you are all trashing him on this thread. It is Dr. Joseph Chapman. Without him NDSU doesn't make the move and without NDSU making the move, there is no way in he@@ UND goes. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

What's wrong with a little payback. Was it in the best interest of the state to discontinue the rivalry three years ago? No, but UND said it was in their best interest(which they found out really wasn't when RT left). It seems that NDSU holds all the cards now, so why not play with them. They received no favors from UND, so why return any? I'm with you on one issue though, I hope they never do play again, which will become the case when Kupy turns back when he realizes the Big Ten won't be offering them conference membership in the next two years. It seems that quotes from the UND administration is that the Mid Con isn't quite good enough for them as it isn't "a good fit" for them. Beggars can't be choosers, as they will find out.

The only games that were hard to get tickets for were the Gophers and Badgers at the old Ralph. The others frequently had 2000 empty seats in a 6000 seat arena. And the regionals were full and loud this year because it was the playoffs. Maybe they should try an alcohol free weekend during one of their non conference series this year to see what effect it has on attendence. If it doesn't have an effect, maybe they should make it permanent.
-
It sounds like you have all the numbers, so what is the graduation rate shown for UND mens basketball for the year Beasley was a senior and Myron Allen was with the program. It probably shows it at 100%. With UND's strict entrance requirements, how do two very talented basketball players that didn't meet D1 requirements and couldn't even get a degree at their JUCO's get into the school? I'm sure their is a very good explanation for it, but what is it? I know they wouldn't sell out to get a good athlete, only NDSU would do that.
-
What do you think that atmosphere and camraderie at the Ralph would be if they took away the two bars and the beer and liquor sales? I know several "fans" that would not be going to those games if it wasn't just one big happy hour. Same for the basketball games, I had never heard of a University advertising to get people to come out to a game early for "dollar hour". Now that's family entertainment.
-
You implied Tim Miles would be begging UND for a game in three years, which is not going to happen. However, I will guarantee you UND will be playung some DAC 10 and NSIC teams in their first D1 season. They might get a handful or two of D1 away games since they won't be a D1 counter.
-
And yet NDSU got more national press for a win @ Wisconsin than any UND Hockey national championship has ever gotten.
-
Hey BisonMav, You forgot a couple.
-
Riverman, I think you have had "a few too many" if you believe Tim Miles will be the one calling to beg Mr. Jones for a game. I suspect the Bison will be in a conference by then and will have no trouble filling in a 10 game non-conference schedule. UND on the other hand will be playing the DAC-10 and MIAC schools for their only home games 3 years down the road. I'm also guessing if Amy Ruley never sees Mr. Roebuck again it will be too soon for her, so don't expect much movement there until it is forced upon her.
-
Potts needs to show some leadership in this situation. He needs to deal with it himself one on one with Chapman (which includes firing Chapman if he feels like he has to). If he doesn't have the authority to fire a president on his own, then apparently the Board is running the system and Potts position is not needed. We do really need some specifics on what Chapman did. Whatever it is, apparently the Board is not in full agreement with Potts, since at least one member wanted to accept Potts resignation right there at the Williston meeting.
-
How about Oct 21st on Fox Sports Net against the Gophers? I know its not the same as WDAY/WDAZ, but I'm sure they'll take it. And anyone who thinks playoff implications were the ONLY reason RT didn't want to continue playing has had way too many Old Mils.
-
I will assume that means there won't be any crying on this board when the SU's refuse to play UND until 3 or 4 years after your D1 move unless forced to by a conference schedule. This is one Bison fan who believes the Bison have every right not to play the Sioux until forced to. I'm hoping the two schools end up in different conferences.
