  1. I'm sorry Sioux-cia, Maybe I missed something, but I'm still waiting to hear exactly what rules and regulations of the SBoHE that Dr. Chapman broke that all of the other Presidents had to follow. Maybe you could fill us in since you seem to have extensive knowledge of this situation. It's obviously not hatred or jealousy behind your statements, so I'm sure you must know what violations Chapman is guilty of. Please fill us in.

While I don't agree with D1 In Fargo that there aren't good athletes in Montana, I think it would be extremely difficult to get them away from one of the D1AA Montana schools. Nebraska may be a good place to find some good D1AA players, but UND will have to go much farther south to get the speed they will need in 1AA. I do take exception to some of the UND fans "holier than thou" attitude about being this elite institution that only Rhode Scholars can get into. Their basketball team did have 2 JUCO athletes (Beasley & Myron ALlen) at the same time that were only in Grand Forks because they hadn't gotten the grades or degree from their JUCO to qualify in D1.
  3. All of you Sioux fans that are in favor of the D1 move have only one man to thank for the move, and you are all trashing him on this thread. It is Dr. Joseph Chapman. Without him NDSU doesn't make the move and without NDSU making the move, there is no way in he@@ UND goes. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
  4. What's wrong with a little payback. Was it in the best interest of the state to discontinue the rivalry three years ago? No, but UND said it was in their best interest(which they found out really wasn't when RT left). It seems that NDSU holds all the cards now, so why not play with them. They received no favors from UND, so why return any? I'm with you on one issue though, I hope they never do play again, which will become the case when Kupy turns back when he realizes the Big Ten won't be offering them conference membership in the next two years. It seems that quotes from the UND administration is that the Mid Con isn't quite good enough for them as it isn't "a good fit" for them. Beggars can't be choosers, as they will find out.
  5. The only games that were hard to get tickets for were the Gophers and Badgers at the old Ralph. The others frequently had 2000 empty seats in a 6000 seat arena. And the regionals were full and loud this year because it was the playoffs. Maybe they should try an alcohol free weekend during one of their non conference series this year to see what effect it has on attendence. If it doesn't have an effect, maybe they should make it permanent.
  6. It sounds like you have all the numbers, so what is the graduation rate shown for UND mens basketball for the year Beasley was a senior and Myron Allen was with the program. It probably shows it at 100%. With UND's strict entrance requirements, how do two very talented basketball players that didn't meet D1 requirements and couldn't even get a degree at their JUCO's get into the school? I'm sure their is a very good explanation for it, but what is it? I know they wouldn't sell out to get a good athlete, only NDSU would do that.
  7. What do you think that atmosphere and camraderie at the Ralph would be if they took away the two bars and the beer and liquor sales? I know several "fans" that would not be going to those games if it wasn't just one big happy hour. Same for the basketball games, I had never heard of a University advertising to get people to come out to a game early for "dollar hour". Now that's family entertainment.

You implied Tim Miles would be begging UND for a game in three years, which is not going to happen. However, I will guarantee you UND will be playung some DAC 10 and NSIC teams in their first D1 season. They might get a handful or two of D1 away games since they won't be a D1 counter.
  9. And yet NDSU got more national press for a win @ Wisconsin than any UND Hockey national championship has ever gotten.

Riverman, I think you have had "a few too many" if you believe Tim Miles will be the one calling to beg Mr. Jones for a game. I suspect the Bison will be in a conference by then and will have no trouble filling in a 10 game non-conference schedule. UND on the other hand will be playing the DAC-10 and MIAC schools for their only home games 3 years down the road. I'm also guessing if Amy Ruley never sees Mr. Roebuck again it will be too soon for her, so don't expect much movement there until it is forced upon her.
  11. Potts needs to show some leadership in this situation. He needs to deal with it himself one on one with Chapman (which includes firing Chapman if he feels like he has to). If he doesn't have the authority to fire a president on his own, then apparently the Board is running the system and Potts position is not needed. We do really need some specifics on what Chapman did. Whatever it is, apparently the Board is not in full agreement with Potts, since at least one member wanted to accept Potts resignation right there at the Williston meeting.

    DI Decision

How about Oct 21st on Fox Sports Net against the Gophers? I know its not the same as WDAY/WDAZ, but I'm sure they'll take it. And anyone who thinks playoff implications were the ONLY reason RT didn't want to continue playing has had way too many Old Mils.

    DI Decision

I will assume that means there won't be any crying on this board when the SU's refuse to play UND until 3 or 4 years after your D1 move unless forced to by a conference schedule. This is one Bison fan who believes the Bison have every right not to play the Sioux until forced to. I'm hoping the two schools end up in different conferences.
  14. Perhaps he should have made the donation of 2000 wheel chairs to a Jewish Childrens Hospital. Maybe that would have been a good way to show his sincere regret for the parties and show that he was not a racist.
  15. Yeah, you can do whatever you want with this $110 million dollar gift, but first I'm going to build a $110 million dollar arena with it, then you can spend whatever is left. Do you think if it was actually a gift to UND that they had any control over, they would have spent every penny on the arena? My guess is they probably would have used at least half on other things to benefit the university. My guess (and its only an opinion) is that Ralph never made a donation that didn't have strings attached.
  16. Quitting the team and staying in school. Going pro because your that damn good and quitting school. Hmm, a lot different that getting kicked out of school because your so bad acedemically that tutors, summer school and 'the athlete' slack combined can't get your grades up to even minimum standards!!.
  17. Have you looked at the geography of the Big Sky? What do you think is a tougher travel schedule? Hoping on an hour and a half flight from Denver to Fargo, or flying from Sacramento to Phoenix and then taking a 2-1/2 hour bus ride to Flagstaff? How about the 4 hour bus ride through the mountains in the middle of winter from Missoula to Bozeman? In case you haven't noticed yet, this is a plane league with some rather lengthy trips. From what we have heard, and I don't have a link or quote to prove it (sorry), most of the opposing coaches that have come to Fargo for a game are pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to into Fargo. By the way, President Gamble from Montana State just told Hallstrom last week that he wants to add NDSU immediately. It wasn't over a year ago as you have claimed.

    Northern Iowa?

DaveK Montana's year before they played the Bison was similar to UNI's year last year. I would only assume since ths Sioux are so much better off now than the Bison were then, it would be a big disappointment to you if the Sioux don't win this game by at least 10.
  19. If they add only one school in the Big Sky, it will be NDSU. They have a big supporter in the Montana State President, and to my knowledge, SDSU has no booster in the BSC like that. Also, the obvious travel partner for Northern Colorado is NDSU. Have you checked the flight schedules to see how easy it is to get from Denver to Fargo? An hour and a half flight and you are on campus or at your hotel 10 minutes after landing. You would have to fly into Sioux Falls and bus to Brookings. That is something that NDSU has over SDSU or UND that the other schools in the BSC will look at, especially with Delta starting flights from Fargo to Salt Lake. Every Big Sky school has to fly into Minneapolis to get to Grand Forks in every sport except football (where they would probably fly on a charter). The BSC will not take SDSU because it thinks it will have an easier time adding NDSU & UND in the future. You may want to think UND has that kind of appeal, but I'm afraid you are mistaken. They will take the one they consider the best option to get out of their scheduling nightmare a nine team league has caused them. They know going to a twelve team 2-division conference will take some convincing of some of the presidents (maybe 2 or 3 years down the road), but they really want an even number for scheduling, so adding one is their immediate option.
  20. One major difference, NDSU had a president that wanted to make the move, UND's obviously does not want to make the move. After listening to the Big Sky Commissioner on WDAY radio tonight, I think the Big Sky thing is still a couple of years away from happening, and he realizes that may be too late for the Dakota schools. It sounded like he realizes the Mid-Con or another conference may be knocking on NDSU's door before his presidents will make a decision.

    Northern Iowa?

What about Mr. Bollingers comment after signing day that UND & NDSU went head to head on 9 top area kids this year, and NDSU got all 9 of them. And this is a Bison team still ineligible for the playoffs. It was posted on the Areavoices blog by Hallstrom or Kolpack. The Sioux may get one or maybe two a year for various reasons, but it will be an exception, not the rule.

    Division I

A good letter, but a Div 1 NCC is not a viable option. The waiting period for a new conference to get an automatic bid in any sport is at least 13 years. It would make more sense to remain an independent and wait for an opening in an established conference.

    Northern Iowa?

That must make the Sioux the cupcake crumbs, since that is what they have getting for players the last couple of years, the leftovers the Bison didn't want.
  24. Maybe you can help me out, but which one of the Big Sky schoold are "name schools" in basketball. I would say on the lists from both conferences, Valparaiso is the most recognizable "name school" there. As for football, a Great West team made the playoffs last year and will probably continue to make it every year considering the strength of the league even without an automatic qualifier. The GWFC is also talking to the Big South (also with 5 teams) about merging to get the automatic qualifier.
