  1. Kind of like Lennon calling a time out with 1:30 left up 17-3 against Mankato with 1st and goal at the three and throwing the ball for a touchdown. Perhaps a couple of knees would have been the classy thing to do. I actually thought Lennon was pretty classy before that move, but I guess I was wrong. Can you imagine what this board would be saying if Berhn's @ UNO had done that this past weekend?
  2. UNC got into the BSC because of their location, not their media connections. By the way, I have never heard anthing about what kind of ratings the FSSN gets for football and basketball games. You would have to exclude hockey from the discussion because the BSC wouldn't care about those ratings. In fact, I would assume hockey would bump a number of weekend basketball games off the FSSN schedule. If you keep hanging your hat on getting into a conference on the FSSN, you will quickly ensure points #2, #3 and #6 in your Bison fan conventional wisdom list will come true. As for point #7, why do you think there are three times as many UND grads living in Fargo than in Grand Forks?
  3. This is not something that Star2City dreamed up in the last couple of months and has nothing to do with jealousy. If you look back into old threads (I don't have the time right now to do it), Star2City predicted that UNC and Denver would get invites into the Big Sky due to the Altitude Network. UNC got in and Denver was possibly was invited but rejected their invitation. Dig around. It' there. As far as FSSN. You have to admit, that it looks appealing when shopping for a conference.
  4. I think you may br overestimating the draw of the 300th largest media market in the country.
  5. One of the best teams in the NCC (if not the best) South Dakota just got shut out by a transitioning 1-AA team yesterday, or do we just bring up the scores that support your claim? Did you mention Ball State should have beaten one Big Ten team and stayed within 10 points of another the two weeks before NDSU beat them? The Bison played poorly and still won @ SFA in a letdown game after a big win the week before. Getting out of there with a win in that situation was huge. On any given Saturday, yes UND could beat most 1-AA teams if they are at the top of their game, but if they were playing almost any 1-AA team the last couple of weeks the way they have played, they would have two losses. Augie and West Wash are programs good 1-AA teams would have put away by halftime.
  6. No, no uproar here. Actually now that the Gateway seems to be more of a realistic possibility, NDSU is in the best situation for them. I road trip to UNI, West Ill. or S ILL. sounds a lot better than any BSC trip. Plus, the basketball coaches are happier with the Mid Con than with the BSC. The kids on the basketball and football teams come from the Midwest or South or east of here. They have no one to speak of from the West. I really don't care if UND gets in teh BSC or not. But I do think it is wishful thinking about the UND - Big Sky scenario you think will happen. Do you really think schools like N. Arizona, Portland State and Sac State are going to overlook the travel and all of their other concerns because UND has won a few Hockey championships and if we take them we might be able to be seen on TV on a Saturday night in Crookston. MN. The west coast schools in that league are concerned about one thing only, and that is location. They don't even realize there is any college hockey.
  7. I heard Gene Taylor on Prime Time Sports Tonight. It sounds like the Gateway Conference will be losing Western Kentucky after this year and would like to add 2 teams to get to 9. The SU's are definitely on their radar, which would put an end to the GWFC. Also, Renewing the UND-NDSU rivalry was brought up to him. He said he would be asking for a minimum of the first two games being played at the Fargodome, then possibly going on a rotating basis.
  8. The way it sounds, if UND didn't force the FSSN to televise a couple of football & basketball games every year, they wouldn't. How many people turn on channel 44(or whatever it is) on a Saturday night in January to watch the Sioux play Augie in basketball? You could probably count them on two hands.
  9. That is a stroke of genius by the UND administration. They have a secret conference deal lined up but tell them they will have to wait a least two more years for them to go D1. Now thats leadership. Wouldn't want to rush into anything (not even an established conference).
  10. How many of these schools are located in Grand Forks, ND and no closer than 1000 miles from the nearest school in any conference looking to expand since the Mid Con declined the invitation to visit GF in August.
  11. That may have been the case 4 years ago if both NDSU and UND went D1 at the same time, not not now. If SDSU is the step-child, UND would be the step child's child now because they are 4 or 5 years behind in the process. You can talk all you want about how attractive UND is to a conference, but for the next 4 to 5 years, they have virtually no value to any conference. They should have at the very least declared their exploratory year this year instead of dragging it out another year.

I actually agree. Frank and Woogie are the worst at rooting for their team.
  13. I apologize for my response to SiouxMeNow's post. I actually hate it when Bison fans break out in that chant at games. I think it is childish and unsportsmanlike. But, SiouxMeNow's juvenile joke and the fact he was so proud of himself for it really got to me. I think you would have a hard time finding another post from me that is in bad taste like this one. Again, I'm sorry I reacted the way I did.
  14. I thought you were supposed to suck 'em not lick 'em. Oh yeah, I forgot, the SIOUX SUCK 'em.

How about on the Bison Sioux statewide football and basketball games. It was pretty clear where Mr. Sweeney's loyalties were, very exuberant after a big Sioux play, pretty somber after a big Bison play.

Oh, Does Al Michaels pull for the Sioux on the air too?
  17. Can you link to this press release? Does it have a UND letterhead? I would be willing to bet it doesn't exist. This would definitely alienate some of the current core schools in the conference and they would lose their automatic qualifier if one or two of them left. NDSU won't be pushing for something that could jeopardize that auto bid. Besides, I thought the Big Sky was drooling over getting UND and they were a lock to get in the ideal conference for UND.
  18. Funny, but I didn't hear any Sioux Fans question the validity of the arguments quoted in post #s 283 & 285 from a couple of UND professors in a letter to the GF Herald (now that's an objective combination). Those were taken as gospel from Sioux fans. I guess objectivity is reserved for people at UND & Grand Forks.
  19. You may be surprised what a renovated Bison Sports Arena might look like. We hear they have raised nearly all of the $16 million they are going to spend on the project. I personally think they should raise about double that and build a new arena. But we hear the renovated BSA will be basketball friendly and actually feel like a basketball arena.
  20. If NDSU gets into the Mid-Con this year I don't beleive they will be leaving for the Big Sky anytime soon. I think you are mistaken if you think the chance of being in the BSC with UND & USD will be any kind of a reason for NDSU to bolt the Mid-Con. NDSU has gotten comfortable being seperated from UND and won't or shouldn't go out of their way to help UND find a home. Besides, If you ask most college basketball followers in the last 20 years which conference is more recognizable the Mid Con or the Big Sky, they would say the Mid Con. If NDSU would happen to land in the Gateway for football in the next couple of years, There is no way they leave that combo for the Big Sky. Maybe the Missouri Valley, but not the Big Sky.
  21. There may not be a GWFC in two years. It seems that Western Kentucky is leaving the Gateway for the Sun Belt. If that happens the Gateway would be down to 7 teams and would likely be looking to add one or two more. Hopefully NDSU would be in the running. If the GWFC loses one or two more teams, there will be no conference left.
  22. Those three presidents should be commended. I would want the president of my university to go into that meeting with a plan to further the interests of their univeristies. Its called leadership. I rather doubt their intention was to hurt the state university system as a whole. The job of the presidents is to present what they need for their individual schools, its the job of the board and chancellor to sort through those requests and decide whats best for the entire system.
  23. Yeah your right, UC Davis beat the Bison by a touchdown last year after the Bison beat Davis by 20 some points the year before. And Stanford was 4-4 in the Pac-10 last year(Possibly the toughest conference in the country) while the Gophers were 3-5 in the Big Ten. That comparision isn't even close. DaveK, perhaps you should stay in the hockey portion of this site. You don't appear to be paying much attention to any other sport.
  24. I read the thread. Still don't know what rules he broke. Even if he went to the board to get rid of Potts, what is the crime in that. It is pretty obvious that Potts had a problem with Chapman long before this supposedly happened. Potts had already made it clear that either Chapman goes or he does. What is wrong with Chapman going to the board and finding out which one they were going to support? Obviously Chapman must have "refused to follow the rules and regulations of the SBoHE" long before any AG investigation, but still don't know what those rules are.
