Perhaps when the President of the NCAA states a week ago that regardless of the outcome of lawsuit, they still plan on enforcing the same restrictions on schools with indian nicknames, its time to back off. Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars if it won't help you in the long run? It looks like UND has two options, accept the restrictions or join the NAIA. The NCAA doesn't need UND, but UND needs the NCAA. It's time they realize that. Personally, I don't care if UND is the Fightin Sioux or Fighting Frogs or if NDSU is the Bison or Turtles. It has nothing to do with the quality of the athletes or teams you put on the field. Taking this thing to court is just stupidity.

Bohl was right, He said "Sporting Event" not "Cocktail Party".
-
The Sioux beat South Dakota by a touchdown. Central Arkansas beat USD 24-0. South Dakota State beat Central Arkansas the next week 24-0. Apparently that team that lost to a Div III school is better than UND using your logic.
-
I actually heard Coach Bohl say on the radio that the NCAA would never change their rules in mid season no matter what. I'm not sure what you were listening to. That whole topic was started by a writer on D-1AA.com about how it was a shame that one of the top if not the best team in 1-AA won't get a shot at the playoffs. He suggested the NCAA make an exception for NDSU, not Bohl. Bohl responded to a question about that happening and said it wouldn't, that after the SDSU game their season would be over. But you can go on thinking what you want. Wouldn't want the truth to get in the way of your hatred for NDSU and Coach Bohl.

When the Gateway adds the NDSU/SDSU combo in January (if not sooner), they will be very happy with 9 teams until someone else leaves the conference. They will never vote to go to an 11 team conference. Besides, Bunning and Kupchella already have the Big Sky locked up in their back pocket. Why would any Sioux fan want to settle for the Gateway/Mid Con anyway when the FSSN pretty much writes the ticket to any conference they want into.

Come on, The Univ of Mary isn't better than the Bison.

Nice try at a shot at NDSU. The only way you can get a 2-for-1 is on a general admission ticket. If you have been to a game at the Fargodome, you wouldn't know that the only general admission seats are the tops of the end zone. The sidelines and bottom half of both endzones are reserved and don't qualify for the 2-for-1. If they sell a total of 1000 gen admis tickets a game I would be surprised.

I was at the Metrodome and didn't hear any anti-Sioux chants. From what I heard, there must be some Sioux fans that are still somewhat obsessed with the Bison. A Sioux fan friend of mine was at Suite 49 when the Bison-Gopher game was on. He said the Anti-Bison sentiment was pretty thick and the place erupted when the field goal was blocked. Sounds like some Sioux fans are still a little concerned about the Bison too.

They played the best game I have ever seen a Bison team play and still lost. The thing is the Gophers played the worst game I've seen a Gopher team play since 1983 vs. Nebraska, which is what kept the score close. So, if you think the Bison deserve credit for a close loss in the best game I've ever seen them play... that's your opinion. I just think it was stupid to schedule that game period. There's no way they were going to win that game even if they played great and the Gophers played poorly, which is exactly what ended up happening. Those guys think they're a lot bigger than they actually are, and don't need you or anybody else to make comments that will boost their already overinflated egos. You'd think they're USC or Notre Dame they way some people talk, and quite frankly I think it's sickening. We have a very good football team at UND, and I think it's about time our fans stop paying attention to that other program.

Kind of like Lennon calling a time out with 1:30 left up 17-3 against Mankato with 1st and goal at the three and throwing the ball for a touchdown. Perhaps a couple of knees would have been the classy thing to do. I actually thought Lennon was pretty classy before that move, but I guess I was wrong. Can you imagine what this board would be saying if Berhn's @ UNO had done that this past weekend?

UNC got into the BSC because of their location, not their media connections. By the way, I have never heard anthing about what kind of ratings the FSSN gets for football and basketball games. You would have to exclude hockey from the discussion because the BSC wouldn't care about those ratings. In fact, I would assume hockey would bump a number of weekend basketball games off the FSSN schedule. If you keep hanging your hat on getting into a conference on the FSSN, you will quickly ensure points #2, #3 and #6 in your Bison fan conventional wisdom list will come true. As for point #7, why do you think there are three times as many UND grads living in Fargo than in Grand Forks?

This is not something that Star2City dreamed up in the last couple of months and has nothing to do with jealousy. If you look back into old threads (I don't have the time right now to do it), Star2City predicted that UNC and Denver would get invites into the Big Sky due to the Altitude Network. UNC got in and Denver was possibly was invited but rejected their invitation. Dig around. It' there. As far as FSSN. You have to admit, that it looks appealing when shopping for a conference.

I think you may br overestimating the draw of the 300th largest media market in the country.

One of the best teams in the NCC (if not the best) South Dakota just got shut out by a transitioning 1-AA team yesterday, or do we just bring up the scores that support your claim? Did you mention Ball State should have beaten one Big Ten team and stayed within 10 points of another the two weeks before NDSU beat them? The Bison played poorly and still won @ SFA in a letdown game after a big win the week before. Getting out of there with a win in that situation was huge. On any given Saturday, yes UND could beat most 1-AA teams if they are at the top of their game, but if they were playing almost any 1-AA team the last couple of weeks the way they have played, they would have two losses. Augie and West Wash are programs good 1-AA teams would have put away by halftime.

No, no uproar here. Actually now that the Gateway seems to be more of a realistic possibility, NDSU is in the best situation for them. I road trip to UNI, West Ill. or S ILL. sounds a lot better than any BSC trip. Plus, the basketball coaches are happier with the Mid Con than with the BSC. The kids on the basketball and football teams come from the Midwest or South or east of here. They have no one to speak of from the West. I really don't care if UND gets in teh BSC or not. But I do think it is wishful thinking about the UND - Big Sky scenario you think will happen. Do you really think schools like N. Arizona, Portland State and Sac State are going to overlook the travel and all of their other concerns because UND has won a few Hockey championships and if we take them we might be able to be seen on TV on a Saturday night in Crookston. MN. The west coast schools in that league are concerned about one thing only, and that is location. They don't even realize there is any college hockey.

I heard Gene Taylor on Prime Time Sports Tonight. It sounds like the Gateway Conference will be losing Western Kentucky after this year and would like to add 2 teams to get to 9. The SU's are definitely on their radar, which would put an end to the GWFC. Also, Renewing the UND-NDSU rivalry was brought up to him. He said he would be asking for a minimum of the first two games being played at the Fargodome, then possibly going on a rotating basis.
-
The way it sounds, if UND didn't force the FSSN to televise a couple of football & basketball games every year, they wouldn't. How many people turn on channel 44(or whatever it is) on a Saturday night in January to watch the Sioux play Augie in basketball? You could probably count them on two hands.
-
That is a stroke of genius by the UND administration. They have a secret conference deal lined up but tell them they will have to wait a least two more years for them to go D1. Now thats leadership. Wouldn't want to rush into anything (not even an established conference).
-
How many of these schools are located in Grand Forks, ND and no closer than 1000 miles from the nearest school in any conference looking to expand since the Mid Con declined the invitation to visit GF in August.
-
That may have been the case 4 years ago if both NDSU and UND went D1 at the same time, not not now. If SDSU is the step-child, UND would be the step child's child now because they are 4 or 5 years behind in the process. You can talk all you want about how attractive UND is to a conference, but for the next 4 to 5 years, they have virtually no value to any conference. They should have at the very least declared their exploratory year this year instead of dragging it out another year.

I actually agree. Frank and Woogie are the worst at rooting for their team.

I apologize for my response to SiouxMeNow's post. I actually hate it when Bison fans break out in that chant at games. I think it is childish and unsportsmanlike. But, SiouxMeNow's juvenile joke and the fact he was so proud of himself for it really got to me. I think you would have a hard time finding another post from me that is in bad taste like this one. Again, I'm sorry I reacted the way I did.
